This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Leonardo_Cartoon.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Ham!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Courtauld Silver[edit]

Hey, please be careful with your categories! File:Teekanne Courtauld.jpg and File:Kaffeekanne Courtauld.jpg were made by people called Courtauld, they're not in the Courtauld museum! --Gnom (talk) 17:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

They are both captioned "Somerset House Museum". There isn't a museum with that exact name, but the en:Courtauld Institute of Art is in en:Somerset House. Trust me, I went to university there! No hard feelings, Ham (talk) 18:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Well then I think the pots are on display in Somerset house, in the part where I also saw a bunch of Impressionist paintings. --Gnom (talk) 20:46, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Sorry if I was discourteous with you before; that wasn't my intention. The museum in Somerset House with the Impressionists and the Courtauld silver is the Courtauld Institute of Art (or rather the gallery part of it; the university part is adjacent to it). I've adjusted the captions and restored the categories accordingly. Ham (talk) 19:55, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Epstein Madonna[edit]

Hi Ham,
is File:Epstein, Madonna and Child, Dean's Mews.jpg located in a really public space, so that FOP would apply. The sculpture is per se still copyrighted. --Túrelio (talk) 09:26, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

This photo shows the sculpture in its context; it's highly visible from Cavendish Square, London. Ham (talk) 09:36, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. In such cases you should add FOP as cat or as template, as the broad FOP provision in UK law may not apply in other countries (relevant for external re-users). --Túrelio (talk) 09:39, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for alerting me to that. I've added Template:FOP. Ham (talk) 09:46, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Temple Bar Dragon.JPG[edit]

Hi. Could you please fill out the required missing description fields for this and any other images you've uploaded. In addition to placing the PD copyright tag, you must also make clear that you are the actual author by stating author:(your user name) and source:(own work). AFAIK, the upload record & tag is not sufficient, and such images can be subject to deletion as being missing essential information. It would also help if you also included the correct date (I somehow doubt the metadata date of midnight is correct!). Ultra7 (talk) 19:18, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

re:List of public art in Westminster[edit]

No no, that's totally fine, I didn't check in the internet, as the plate by sculpture doesn't say it's temporary. I've got some more photos missing on the list, I'll try to upload today. Cheers, Eluveitie (talk) 19:06, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Public art in London[edit]

Hi there, can you explain why you have orphaned and emptied Category:Public art in London instead of proposing deletion? Thanks, Themightyquill (talk) 07:42, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi there. It seemed redundant due to the existence of Category:Sculptures in London (on which I was doing a lot of work), and poorly populated in comparison with it. As regards proposing deletion, I'm afraid I forgot about the protocol on these matters – sorry. Ham (talk) 10:37, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, now we have a well populated Category:Public art in England without any art from London. That doesn't seem like a good situation. - Themightyquill (talk) 08:07, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Thank you x 1,000,000 for categorizing many of my London photographs. I felt bad uploading so many pictures without more specific subcategories, but it was taking me forever to remember the specific locations and sites. Your work is a huge help to me, to Commons and to Wikimedia projects in general. Again, THANK YOU. --Another Believer (talk) 17:52, 20 October 2014 (UTC)

@Another Believer: Thanks; you're too kind! I find these categorisations to be quite easy work to do during snatches of down time; when I've a little more time to spare I'll address your points on en:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Public Art/London. Ham (talk) 22:05, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
No problem and no rush (it is a long list on that talk page, so take your time). Just trying to get the list of sculptures and monuments I saw during my trip out of my head and onto the screen before I forget, and while I upload my photographs. I've completed the latter, so don't worry about more poorly-detailed uploads from me! It is very helpful to have someone more familiar with London assisting with categorization and naming conventions. You let me know when you mass upload info about Oregon and I will return the favor. :) Thanks again. -Another Believer (talk) 22:24, 20 October 2014 (UTC)
