You're unlikely to catch me here as I rarely use the commons. If you want quick contact though use my English wikipedia talk page [1] and I'll probably respond within a day. Don't forget to add where you want me to reply (ie, your talk page on the commons).

Hi Tom. I love your photo Image:Tree hadrian's wall.jpg. At Image:Tree hadrian's wall (original).JPG you wrote "Please do not reference this image". Perhaps you're unaware that images can have multiple revisions, like article pages. I recommend that you upload the original version over "Tree hadrian's wall.jpg", with an upload summary like "the original version", then either revert or upload the modified version again. That way, you'll have the picture and the improved version all in one place, and you can nominate "Tree hadrian's wall (original).JPG" for deletion. If you have any questions about that, please let me know. dbenbenn | talk 16:57, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Tall buildings[edit]

It's an SVG file, so it is the source file. The text can be easily edited in an SVG editor (such as inkscape) or just notepad. ed g2stalk 13:42, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POTY 2006[edit]

The arrangements for the Commons Picture of the Year 2006 competition are now complete, and voting will start tomorrow, Feb 1st. All the featured pictures promoted last year are automatically nominated. As the creator of one or more images nominated for the election we invite you to participate in the event. Winchester cathedral flags[edit]

I have made some editing of the information page for the image Winchester cathedral flags you made. My purpose is to translate description of the pictures in Commons from English to French (or, in much rarer cases, from French to English) in order to expand their possible uses in the wikis. Apparently, you have a personnal template for picture desciption. And apparently it does not accept the or templates that are heavilly used in Commons. Please have a look on that picture. I am sure I put back all the information, but a second check would not be too much...Berrucomons 16:35, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Tomhab~commonswiki!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
