Episodes of Buddha's life

[edit]

Hi Heinrich I would like to create a new category called Episodes of Buddha's life, in which contributors could create sub categories and load (or refer) pictures illustrating these episodes.

What do you think?

Regards

Great. Go ahead. --hdamm (talk) 11:47, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, you know, that we already have Category:Paintings of Life of Gautama Buddha? --hdamm (talk) 08:23, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We also have Category:Mara. Maybe you can rename it? --hdamm (talk) 09:01, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What about Category:Mudras? --hdamm (talk) 09:06, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw this category, and having limited the category to paintings is -I think- a pity, as you have many sculptures and reliefs illustrating Buddha's life.
Mudras are attitudes, so I don't see them as belonging to the Episodes of Buddha's life
Mara is a good candidate (the defeat of Mara is frequently depicted)
Take care. Dom.

BTW, I wanted to draw your attention on a category, called Kala, that has been split into sub-categories according to the location (Kala in Thailand, Kala in Indonesia). The same has been made for Garuda. And the guy started to assign e.g. Kala in Thailand to pictures of Khmer temples in Thailand, which -in my opinion- does not make sense and has absolutely no interest.

What's your opinion?

Dom, I think mudras well important, as in Thailand special mudras are assigned to certain episodes in the Buddha's life. If you could read German, you could have a look at my humble website: http://www.hdamm.de/buddha/b40typ-idx.php
Kala: yes, the guy seems to be from Indonesia? I don't find it too bad, as the many Indonesian entries would have made it somehow confusing. It seems you cleaned the categories already up a bit? ;-)

Yes, sure, mudras can fe referenced when they are linked to a particular event (e.g. the subduction of Mara); in the presentation of the category (where I describe some episodes, I will mention the typical associated mudra.
Take care.
Dom.

PS: I cannot speak or even read german. Dom (talk) 09:07, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
