Hello, this is a picture of Ho Phra Monthian Tham, a building inside Wat Phra Kaew complex in Bangkok, Thailand. Here is another picture of the same building. In this general view, you can see it on the right, below the big golden chedi (see this map). This is why I have changed the category, expanded the description and asked for a renaming. Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 08:06, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not convinced:
  • Ho Phra Monthian Tham has on its front two windows flanking a door. In this building you have clearly only two doors/windows.
  • The tree is on the wrong side.

Hi, I studied both images and I think Brightraven is correct. The "unidentified" image was taken from the right hand side of the tree that is also shown on D Ramey Logan's image. The "unidentified" photo shows the opposite facade of the one shown in the D Ramey Logan photo. - Takeaway (talk) 13:02, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I must admit, that the "unidentified" photo could show the south-eastern corner of the Ho Monthian Tham, though I thought, that there is no room between the Phra Rabiang and Ho Monthian Tham to take a photo (see map). And mostly the buildings in Thai Wat are symmetrical, I mean: the front (western) wall has two windows and a door, while I can only see two windows/doors on the (alleged) back (eastern) wall of the "unidentified" photo?
--hdamm (talk) 13:22, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There isn't much space but as you can see in the unidentified photo, it's framed such that it is possible. If you study the east facade from [image], you can see that it indeed only contains two doors/windows. The naga head chofa coming in from the right of the frame of the unidentified photo corresponds with the roof endings of the "tower" at the n-e corner of the phra rabiang. - Takeaway (talk) 14:43, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. This discussion leads nowhere... I think, next time I'm in Bangkok, I will check "on location" and take a photo myself ;-)

@Takeaway: - would ypou mind if I copy our diskussion to File_talk:Ho_Phra_Monthian_Tham,_Bangkok.jpg? --hdamm (talk) 15:33, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, no problem. Cheers! - Takeaway (talk) 15:50, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regions of Thailand

[edit]

Hi Hdamm, I saw that you recategorised some of the Thailand province categies into other regions. When I started the region categorisation for Thailand, I used the 6 region system, as illustrated at File:Thailand provinces six regions.png. I'm not sure what system you are following for reassigning the provinces and why? - Takeaway (talk) 21:24, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, but I think the "official" system (is there an "official" system?) is the one illustrated here (Thailand four regions.svg). And that is also the system we use in de-Wikipedia. --hdamm (talk) 09:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well – I just found this document by the Royal Inbstitute. --hdamm (talk) 09:38, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the system as described in the document by the Royal Institute is the 6 region system that I used when I started the region categories as it is the only one that is somewhat "official". Shall I revert the changes that you've made or do you want to do that yourself? - Takeaway (talk) 10:00, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead. I don't remember, where I changed the region cat. --hdamm (talk) 07:13, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, Andy mentioned in his blog the Regions of Thailand in the 1950s. --hdamm (talk) 07:18, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! He's indeed obsessed with subdivisions of Thailand! ;-) - Takeaway (talk) 10:08, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
:-)

Wat Pho images?

[edit]

Hi again hdamm, I saw that you had moved some images that were allegedly made at Wat Pho to Category:Buddhist temple architecture of Thailand. Aren't these images from Wat Pho? Regards, Takeaway (talk) 17:18, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't find them typical for Wat Pho. They show rather a picture of general Buddhist temple architecture of Thailand. That's why I moved them. Greetings --hdamm (talk) 07:39, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As these images show details of several buildings of Wat Pho, how about introducing a new category for them, such as "Category:Details of Wat Pho"? This can then be put into "Category:Details of Buddhist temples of Thailand" together with a minor re-shuffle of categories and the creation of a few new ones to accommodate the whole re-shuffle? Eventually "Category:Details of Buddhist temples of Thailand" would, via a few category steps, lead up to Category:Details of buildings. It's a bit of a puzzle how to fit all the categories in but I think I can pull it off (I used to be an architect :) ). Cheers, - Takeaway (talk) 12:00, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Great idea :-)
