Faroese stamps 1989

In 1989 Postverk Føroya, the postal administration of the Faroe Islands, issued 15 stamps.

Church of Tórshavn[edit]

In connection with the 200th anniversary of the Tórshavn Cathedral were issued three stamps after photographs by Ole Wich. Engraver was Czeslaw Slania, date of issue 6 February.

Europe CEPT: Viking Toys[edit]

The Europe CEPT edition shows ancient artefacts. Postverk Føroya contributed with two stamps depicting toys from the Viking Age, found in the 1950'ies in the Faroes and which can be seen now in the National Museum in Hoyvík. Artist: Bárður Jákupsson; date of issue: 10 April.

National Costumes[edit]

This set of two shows Faroese costumes for special occasions. Date of issue was 10 April and the engravings are by Slania.

Island Games[edit]

The third Island Games ("Island Olympics") of the IGA were held 1989 in the Faroe Islands, 5-13 July. A set of four postal stamps shows the most popular Faroese sports. Artist was Olivur við Neyst; date of issue: 5 June 1989.

Bird Cliffs in Suðuroy[edit]

The Promontories on Suðuroy at the west coast ar ideal places for seabird. This set of four of 2 October were engraved after photographs by Ragnar Axelsson and others by Czeslaw Slania. Date of issue was 2 October.
