Hello, Burgkirsch~commonswiki!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi,

Thank you for improving pictures on Wikimedia Commons.

The original uploader of File:Penne all'arrabbiata.jpg were a little bit surprised of the photo shrinking.

Be careful when you do color correction:

  • to work with the original size picture, not the thumbnail version
  • to check if the color correction is a bonus or a necessity:
    • If it's a necessity, you can overwrite the original picture;
    • In the other cases, and if the color correction is rather aggressive, you can reupload a new file. You copy the description page of the other pictures, and add the Retouched picture template. For example, it could be in this case .

I'm at your disposal if you've another question. --Dereckson (talk) 16:59, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
