Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:00, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

GIF frame delays
[edit]FYI, I processed a number of the GIF animations that you posted to Commons with GIMP to optimize the files, in most cases greatly reducing their sizes and speeding loading times. Also, while doing that, I found that most of the delay times for the frames were set to zero (0), or unspecified, which can sometimes cause problems in certain browsers. Instead of producing a high frame rate, the display routine can get stuck on a single frame for about 4 million seconds, i.e., over 46 days. I haven't encountered the problem with my software, but to avoid this problem, GIMP assigns a default delay of 100 milliseconds to each frame if the delay time isn't specified. It doesn't allow one to specify anything less than 10 milliseconds.
The quality of your sorting routine animations is very good, but I suspect the programs you used to generate them were limited in their ability to fine-tune GIF outputs. A dedicated graphics program such as GIMP can fill in the voids in this case. — Quicksilver@ 23:09, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
