Adding files in watch list

Since some days the script adds all files concerned by the mass DR to the watch list of the DR starter. I don't want this feature, the usability for other users is not clear to me as well. Could it become cancelled again? Thanks. - A.Savin 15:49, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Done (default set to "prefernences"). BTW, you can adjust this in the advanced configuration. This is useful because some users are blanking out warning tags. -- RE rillke questions? 18:03, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

mass DR failed (only DR page was created)

Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Mtsvec - nothing more (no file tags, no upload notification), no JS console errors, in firebug's network view there is only one api.php request (that one for the DR page). Tried three times. --Saibo (Δ) 03:23, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Done with v.0.9.0.3 This was entirely my mistake. -- RE rillke questions? 13:10, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Reoccurred with v.0.9.0.4: Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Kahlil Gibran (sculptor) was created but all other tasks not done (no JS errors). Similar when I tried (afterwards) the new prepend text + notify function: only the first file was tagged. --Saibo (Δ) 23:45, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
First of all, I use valid jQuery as described in the documentation for opening the dialog that fails to open if you have $.fx.off = true; and attempting to use an effect (using the highlight effect). I am going to report this upstream and try to fix it here. If the dialog fails to open, you cannot confirm. Since this might affect other gadgets as well, I suggest you remove this from your monobook.js until it is clear how to treat this problem. -- RE rillke questions? 11:18, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
http://bugs.jqueryui.com/ticket/6131 will be fixed with MW 1.19/jQuery UI 1.8.17 (works on http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/animated.html, https://www.mediawiki.org) -- RE rillke questions? 11:44, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Works now (v.0.9.1.0). Thank you! :-) That fx.off "hack" is even a gadget in enwp and I thought of importing it to COM and dewp as it is useful. Stupid that the "off" does more than just turn the animations off... Really a bad behavior that not even a JS error is reported. I did not have problems with other scripts - so I leave it in my monobook.js. And, hey, if I hadn't this in I would not have noticed that problem. ;) jquery folks have fixed it since more than a year and the patch has not arrived here? urgs... undefinedREASON% Using VisualFileChange.js. Would you suggest adding the reason to the user-talk-summary, too? -- RE rillke questions? 16:45, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
As some people only read their email notifications (which includes the summary), yes, what not? Not, because it blows up the watchlist a bit if you watch this user talk page with long summaries. Conclusion: neutral to pro. What do you think? Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 04:09, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

custom replace mode: Does too much - edits to file pages where my regexp doesn't match

I did not want it to do edits to file pages where my regexp doesn't match - like here. http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Haselburg_Modell_1.jpg&diff=prev&oldid=66903147 Furthermore there is no switch to switch such cosmetics off --Saibo (Δ) 04:02, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

I think I will just try to include some more general cleanup rules to make those edits more efficient and add "+cosmetics/cleanup" to the edit summary manually. ;) --Saibo (Δ) 12:52, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Cave: The profiles are stored in your local storage (browser) at this stage. If you use private mode or only allow session cookies or similar all the data can be lost. And: With v.0.9.0.0 the internal data-structure for the profiles will change breaking all existing profiles (sorry for that but that's required to allow more flexible saving (e.g. allow including selection or the things you've inserted in the first dialog (user/category, start date, sorting)
If you find some rules should be included in vFC, just write them here. -- RE rillke questions? 13:06, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
It would be handy to be able to specify rules as "trigger" to do an edit at all. Only if those rules would change text an edit should be done - otherwise not. Also, as mentioned, there should be a possibility to switch off the built in cleanup rule on demand.
I am done with my "job" - worked fine (except quite many stupid replacements like that)! :-) Is there currently a way to export (maybe via firebug) the rules? Or should I just copy and paste the 2×17 text boxes? The webappstore sqlite database is not very good to read ;) --Saibo (Δ) 21:14, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
I will give you an upgrade script. Please ping me on IRC. -- RE rillke questions? 13:26, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Reopened: Please note that the root problem was not fixed: "It would be handy to be able to specify rules as "trigger" to do an edit at all. Only if those rules would change text an edit should be done - otherwise not." - otherwise there should be a mode that disables all built-in cleanup code so that pages' text is not changed when no regexp did a change (that way the edit would be collapsed by mediawiki even if it would be sent to the server). --Saibo (Δ) 00:07, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
Please give an example because this should not occur anymore:
 if (upli.content === replaceContainer.getText()) {
   var $gb = _this.gbs[upload];
   if ($gb) $gb.find('img').attr('src', _this.mdNoChangeIcon);
} else {
   page.text = replaceContainer.doCleanUp();
   _this.mdUploadCt++;
   _this.mdSavePage(page, _this.img_summary, 'mdTemplateAdded', 'mdTemplateAdded');
}

Just an example: there are >300 files in Category:Images with timestamp watermarks lacking the correct Timestamp-template. I'd like to have the possibility to tag all these files per batch. This could be done in two ways: with cute select or with an NOT-option for the custom replace box.--Funfood 07:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
What would you like to do? {{Watermark}} → {{watermark|timestamp}} ? Or Category:Images with timestamp watermarks → {{watermark|timestamp}} ? Sorry that I am too stupid to understand. -- RE rillke questions? 11:05, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
The second one. If it is done on all files in the category, then the template would be twice in the already correct files.--Funfood 11:12, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

improvements to "ready" dialog after a Mass DR was made

(v.0.9.1.0) A really great improvement! :-)

  • "But you can save your inputs into a profile." - is that necessary? Maybe add a note the it is auto-saved anyway?
  • Title should not be "ready" but "done".

Usually I would not like to have these links opened in new tabs. I guess it also will not hurt much if a user does not expect that he cannot go "back" if he does not open manually in a new tab. Anyway, I have no strong opinion on this. I personally would prefer those links to have no "target" attribute set so I could decide if I want a new tab or not. Maybe another user pref? ;-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:48, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Bot operators should be notified

The script silently don't notify the uploaders who use popular bots such as File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske) or Flickr upload bot. It's a very serious bug. At the very least the script should report to the nominator that there were non-notified users, and that they should be notified manually. Of course, if would be better to simply copy&paste the notification code from MediaWiki:AjaxQuickDelete.js. Trycatch (talk) 17:11, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Also, the new error-handler should be copied and auto-retry for server 500-errors. -- RE rillke questions? 18:58, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Hiding unselected possible?

Hello,

just asking, because I like to select only few files from some-hundred with cute select. Would it be possible to implement an option that only shows the selected files and hides the unchecked? It would reduce the chance of missing a checked file for controlling. If that's not possible: could the background selected files be shown in another color? - That would also help a lot in finding the marked files.--Funfood 09:39, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes this would be possible. I am also thinking about using easier selection like on tools:~magnus/commcomm/index.html (not working because ts is down) or http://jqueryui.com/demos/selectable/ -- RE rillke questions? 10:07, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Jump to specific point in cat.

Is it possible to jump to a specific image in any huge! category? Because it's very time consuming to scroll down some thousand files... --McZusatz (talk) 13:27, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes it is. Put in a link like http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Images_taken_by_mattbuck&from=2009-07-31 - this jumps straight to the sortkey 2009-07-31. AFAIK though you can't do it easily without direct URL input. Also note it won't work with /wiki/Category:... url, it needs to be the type as above. -mattbuck (Talk) 14:02, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
And it's not server-friendly. What do you exactly mean with "Jumping"? Should there be an option after the big dialog containing the thumbs is displayed or simply something in the start-dialog in the more-option? The first one would need more coding requirements. -- Rillke(q?) 16:58, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Anything that allows me to skip the "previous" files would just be fine. (I know there's an option to continue from where you last session ended, but it's limited due to several reasons... ) So imagine I want to start with my work at the files beginning with "O" (example: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:German_stamps_review&from=O ). I already tried the suggestion of Mattbuck, but I could not make it jump to the sortkey (In my case the "O"?). --McZusatz (talk) 18:43, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Done in 0.9.13.0. In the start-dialog, select Category, then click on More options, then select asc, alphabetical, then enter your desired sort key (O). -- Rillke(q?) 23:29, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Not very graceful exit on the "no uploads by this user" case (minor bug / improvement)

After a plain old JS message box (should be a jQuery-style one for UI consistency) has told "Script cannot find any files ...." there is in the sidebar "Error: An error occurred setting up the selection-revert dialog. ##### TypeError: this.t[taskname] is undefined" and the main window closes. File usage counts

I think will be good idea to add file usage count for each image. It'll be helpful to nominate out of scope images for deletion. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:50, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

That would be, indeed a good idea. The problem is the silliness of the MediaWiki-API regarding to global usage:
  • There is no way to query just the number, you have to ask for the complete info (wiki, url, ...)
  • To speed-up loading, the script asks for 10 files/ request sent to the server. If now one file would have 500 usages, the response would tell you, you have to step through all of them, before getting the ones for the next file.

Conclusion: Not entirely impossible but needs a smart implementation and some coding efforts on the client side or bugzilla:36912 is implemented at the server side. -- RE rillke questions? 19:16, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Will be implemented with version >0.9.20.1. But GlobalUsage only. (don't get them together from API)-- Rillke(q?) 16:32, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Will be great to have drop down box with typical reasons for deletions as on regular delte page.
  • Progress should tells about deletions, not edits.

1) I created an auto-complete that loads the reasons from MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown. You have to type at least one letter to see it. Is this sufficient? 2) Fixed. -- Rillke(q?) 20:16, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I was able to use it this afternoon (already the 9.29.0 version) - other users report it works for them. --Funfood 21:08, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Either this is fixed with version 0.9.29.1, or it persists or after clicking proceed, nothing happens except "please wait" -- Rillke(q?) 21:42, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Works again with 0.9.29.1. Tx!--Funfood 21:46, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the error report and the quick feedback. -- Rillke(q?) 21:52, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion: invert selection

For some recategorization purposes it would be great to have an "invert selected files" option, that selects all unselected and vice versa. Could that be implemented? --Funfood 22:02, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Tx, that's great!--Funfood 22:54, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Some problems

I encountered some problems today: when creating deletion request page or notifying uploade about no permission (Error: An error occurred after a template has been added to a description page. ##### TypeError: $gb.visible is not a function if for last case). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:17, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I forgot about this old dependency while updating MediaWiki:Gadget-jquery.in-view.js. With version 0.9.33.6, this issue should be fixed. -- Rillke(q?) 18:37, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

"Attempting to continue querying script encountered an error. ##### API request failed (editconflict): Edit conflict detected at Thu, 01 Nov 2012 14:27:31 GMT"

I got this error message when trying to report Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Historical markers in Texas. The uploaders were notified and the request page was created, but it wasn't added to the daily log page. The script might need some better edit conflict handling. --Stefan4 (talk) 14:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the report. Looks like something is broken here. 1) It uses appendtext so no edit conflict should occur at all but it's MediaWiki. 2) MediaWiki:Gadget-libAPI.js should handle them (up to 20 of them). -- Rillke(q?) 23:51, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
It seems to be an issue in MediaWiki API. -- Rillke(q?) 23:29, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

sl

{{Editprotected}} Please, add the Slovene translation of translatable messages from User:Eleassar/Sandbox. Thank you. --Eleassar (t/p) 10:29, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

 Doing…. Please stand by. -- Rillke(q?) 14:44, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Ok. --Eleassar (t/p) 21:37, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
A lot of strings are still missing in the i18n object… Since this is more or less in development, I didn't encourage translation. Now working making i18n possible. -- Rillke(q?) 21:17, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
This WE, I think, it could be ready to integrate proper i18n (including plural rules). But then I need some more messages translated. -- Rillke(q?) 22:31, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Well, it took longer. I am sorry for the delay. Could you have a look at MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js/i18n/sl.js? I changed these messages. Thanks in advance. -- Rillke(q?) 22:12, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for your work. The page looks ok, I'll translate the remaining strings a bit later. --Eleassar (t/p) 20:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Translations?

I used for the first time this tool. He seems really god on earth! It is possible to translate it in Italian? Thanks Raoli ✉ (talk) 16:59, 8 November 2012 (UTC) p.s. Rilke you are great!

Hi Raoli, thanks for all the compliments. It will take me some time to inspect the code for elements that aren't translatable yet and rewrite these parts. I can give you a preview how translation looks like but you will be surprised by the volume of text: Special:PrefixIndex/MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js/i18n/ -- Rillke(q?) 18:11, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you. No problem. Yes i'll do it... tomorrow of course! I noticed that the German translation is more complete than Slovene. Am I wrong or right? Not knowing neither German nor Slovene I'll translate it from English. Raoli ✉ (talk) 18:17, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
I have finished the translation, just now, sipping a mango juice. As soon as possible, you can move this page User:Raoli/VisualFileChange.js/i18n/it.js to MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js/i18n/it.js. There are many features that are not translatable. Why is that? Is it not possible for technical reasons? It's really quite a nice tool. Raoli ✉ (talk) 00:29, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you so much! I regret that I have currently no time I could spend making all elements translatable. With the next revision of VisualFileChange you can see your translation or you manage to completely empty your browser cache (but it's difficult because the translation files are heavily cached). -- Rillke(q?) 08:29, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
OK, I'll wait. Raoli ✉ (talk) 12:02, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Selection improvements

Is it possible to use mouse for arbitrary selection - all files inside box marked with mouse button down and up events? It may be useful for huge batch files operations when select all is too wide and individual check boxes click will took too much time. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:42, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Are you looking for something like a lasso? Are you aware that you can use shift (read how to) in order to select all files between 2 files? -- Rillke(q?) 15:55, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for explanations! It's my fault that I didn't read manual first :-) However I think lasso (if it possible and not hard to implement) will be more intuitive. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:51, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
