It helps me keeping track of all the requests. Beats spreading them over half a dozen talk pages ;-)
Also : If the file upload bot transfered an unsuitable image from wikipedia or Flickr, don't ask me to fix it. I don't operate the bot; I only offer it, and someone else used it.

[edit] File upload bot talk page

There is a message on the file upload bot talk page pressing people not to use it because you don't check it. Unfortunately bots can't read that message and still try to use it. A licence template added by that bot is now deprecated and bots are now telling your file upload bot that if nothing is done about it the file gets deleted. In most of the cases the fix needed is trivial and your bot is the only entity that gets warned. I'm just an anon who happened to notice this and who will be gone in a second, but I just thought you might like to know so you can take the proper course of action.

[edit] Wiki2XML extension

Hello, I have been making use of your wiki2xml.php extension at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Wiki2xml

I have been using it for a project hosted on Drupal: http://drupal.org/sandbox/TommyKaneko/1090360

I would like to relicense the file wiki2xml.php under the GPL v2 license, and begin to maintain it independently on Drupal.org. I believe that the code will actually fork away from its current intended use.

May I have your permission to do this?

Many thanks, Tom Kaneko

[EDIT] -permission granted. Thank you.

{{ Blacklisted user; images from that user's pages must not be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

--Martin H. (talk) 23:02, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
0 - Everything OK. License good, user good, file found.
1 - The server returned a failure.
2 - Internal error. Call to the server was not made.
3 - Bad license: the license at the server is incompatible with the Commons.
4 - Blacklisted user: ditto
5 - Invalid ID: the ID specified was not digits only, and it wasn't a URL containing
    a valid image specification either.
6 - Missing ID: no ID was specified in the request.

Another such file was File:Wayne Gretzky on the bench of Phoenix Coyotes.jpg. Flickr account 35124296@N00 (xgeorg00, canyonero) is blacklisted for flickrwashing. Lupo 16:48, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] A bowl of strawberries for you!

Erdbeerteller01.jpg I'm very glad to inform you that I have nominated one your[citation needed] finest images for! You can vote for it here! TrebleSeven (talk) 18:10, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
You did not look at the file description page carefully. --Leyo 21:36, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, I think this, esp. regarding to the upload count — the bot did great work. It is even credited in lots of cases :P -- RE rillke questions? 21:45, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
All the links to the licenses are broken on this web page anyway. --Leyo 21:54, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Please, your bot should not put some categories

I discovered this import done with your 'File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske)'.
Could your bot avoid to add Category:Genera of Araceae (no picture is a genus of Araceae! Only genus categories and genus articles are intended there).
More generaly to add any Category:Families of XXXXXX, Category:Tribes of XXXXX, Category:Genera of XXXXX, Category:Species of XXXXX.
To help you avoid these categories, I created Category:Biology categories that should contain no files.

[edit] Photos of Azizov

Hallo. How can I upload one of these photos? --Interfase (talk) 15:06, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

They are not under a free license. To answer your question: Illegally. --Magnus Manske (talk) 23:36, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Bot inexplicably placing licenses at the bottom of transferred images

This has been happening with thousands of images, and I didn't even bother saying something, assuming it would get fixed. It hasn't. See File:19th century chest.JPG. At the bottom of the text, it inexplicably places a license. It seems to do this on nearly every file uploaded. Please fix this ASAP, because it is posting incorrect information. Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:11, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Or take File:Prem Chand Pandey.jpg for example. The bot is just adding licenses to images willy-nilly. Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:32, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

File:Ybells.jpg: how is it even choosing these licenses? It's almost like it's purposefully choosing the wrong one to put at the bottom. Face-blush.svg Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:58, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

Magnus, this is a real problem so I would appreciate if you could address it with me; thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) 20:54, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, the images were not transfered by my bot. It appears the text was generated by CommonsHelper2, originally written by myself and now mainly operated by User:Jan Luca, and then used in a manual upload by the respective user (in the file upload history). If these had been uploaded by the bot, that would be the "uploading user". I have not looked at the CommonsHelper2 code in many months, but it appears to be blocked (why, I don't know either), which would explain the manual uploads. If the bot added the categories, or if they were added manually by the uploaders, I cannot tell; anyway, it is their responsibility alone. Maybe Jan can shed light on the technical issue, though, if there is one. --Magnus Manske (talk) 23:18, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

The thing is: I've seen this occur to thousands of images. This is not an isolated event where one user was appending it to the bottom; it's happened a ton. It's even so bad that I put code in my cleanup script to fix it. But (for whatever reason) it never occurred to me what a deep problem this is, given it's assigning licenses to files which users did not agree to. Magog the Ogre (talk) 01:42, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Ottilienkirche Bettringen 1.jpg

Hallo Magnus,

[edit] File Upload Bot

Hi. It seems that bot stopped working two days ago. mickit 16:19, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Not sure if it's relevant but Commons Helper2 aborts with "Attention : Upload bot is blocked on Wikimedia Commons"  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:08, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
My bot is not blocked, and there is an upload from today. Not sure what the issue is, if there is one. --Magnus Manske (talk) 10:32, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
The bot has not been working for me either for the past two days. Can you check the logs to see whether there are errors? --Sreejith K (talk) 13:34, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
If I use the standard commons helper it goes right though to the finish, says X is done and do I want to delete? I did that and found nothing had uploaded.... oops...  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:50, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Fixed. --Magnus Manske (talk) 23:09, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] BaGLAMa

Could you please add:

Many thanks - great tool! Johnbod (talk) 22:30, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Done. --Magnus Manske (talk) 10:29, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
Great, thanks! Johnbod (talk) 13:23, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

Orchi (talk) 23:25, 7 February 2012 (UTC)

It did work sometime this morning, but failed since. I just got the error message: "Could not connect to commonswiki-p.userdb.toolserver.org : Access denied for user 'magnus'@'turnera-bge0.esi.toolserver.org' (using password: YES)". --  Docu  at 18:19, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Works for me. The error message if a toolserver issue; there was a DB server fail, maybe that's it. If that's the case, it should "only" affect some wikis. Nothing I can fix. --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:46, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
The form itself works indeed, but when trying to start a request on Commons, it outputs the above error. According to {{toolserver}}, s4 is down. If Commons is replicated on another server, maybe it could be switched to that. In the meantime, I suppose I have to find another way to update New ships. --  Docu  at 08:42, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
