Deletion requests[edit]

Hi, Do not create invalid deletion requests. Please read COM:DR. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:17, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Yann,
I'm not very clear on what was wrong with that mass DR. We only needed one of the 50-ish files nominated in that batch, and another batch of about 100 variations of that very logo were speedyed. I am definitely not perfect, and would appreciate feedback for future noms.Alachuckthebuck (talk) 15:43, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This logo is in the public domain, so tagging it as copyright violation is wrong. Now if there are several useless copies, a regular deletion request can be created with examples. Yann (talk) 18:01, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(forgetting pd-textlogo) thanks for clearing that up. I'll start the DR for all the dupes. Alachuckthebuck (talk) 18:28, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i was notified of a picture i uploaded was deleted by you, why is that so? Dagentle (talk) 08:54, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was deleted as it was a personal photo not being used on your user page.I didn't do the actual deletion, but I was the one who tagged it.

Welcome, Dear Patroller![edit]

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Alachuckthebuck,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Festival Elijo Crecer 2024[edit]

Estimado usuario de nombre irreproducible, le exijo que inmediatamente revierta el borrado rápido del banner del festival Elijo Crecer, que carece completamente de motivos. Se trata de un festival de ciencia y tecnología y los materiales están licenciados con CC-By. FMA (talk) 16:56, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

en:Sorry about my name, just call me Chuck. As for the speedy notice, if you think it's wrong, replace the speedy notice with a deletion request.

Todo lo mejor Alachuckthebuck (talk) 17:00, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Chuck. I think you added a speedy notice too fast. I have already replaced it by a deletion request and provided reasons to leave the file in commons. Best! Fernando FMA (talk) 17:32, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
probably, my Spanish isn't the best, and google translate isn't perfect... I probably will not comment, but please link to this section in the DR for context.

Dear Chuck, the file was erased and I do not know how to bring it back. It is a flyer stored under a CC-By licence and is the publicity of a very large public and free festival about open science and technology. Can you please help? Thank you,
Fernando FMA (talk) 18:45, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! what you can do is file a undeletion request . When you do, make sure to include a link to this thread for context.

Hi, Chuck. I noticed the bad link you put in this edit. Please see the title part of my AjaxDeleteExtraButtons at User:Jeff G./common.js and the discussion at User talk:Jeff G./Archives/2024/March#"Fixes".   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:19, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeff,
I apologize for the mistake, and appreciate you reaching out. I don't see any kind of comment or note at the top of the ajax section in your common.js, but I assume the error has been fixed. I'll apply the edit to my common.JS after writing this response.
Thanks for the heads up!
All the best - Chuck Talk 22:32, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What kind of comment or note were you expecting? The error is that Google doesn't support searchbyimage any more, and that was hardcoded into the buttons you added in this edit.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
you had referred to somthing being in the ajax title section your common.js, and I mis-interpreted your message. I thought there was a comment about the buttons there.
Ajax is not my strong suit.

File:Plage Paul Thomas 2.jpg[edit]

Hello, I think it must be an error on your part. Compare the photos carefully, this is a photo that I just took and not a copyright violation. Look at my history, you will see that it was taken at the same time as a whole series of other photos on this beach. I went there on purpose by canoe to take all these photos. Compare the waves carefully for example and you will see that they are not the same photos even if the angle used seems to have been the same. Sorry for this bad English, I use a translator because I speak very bad English. Sincerely. Enrevseluj (talk) 23:44, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no metadata on the image, so I cannot confirm the image is yours. I would recommend sending an email to VRT and clearing it up with them.

I find VRT to be a better shortcut.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:39, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Batch upload of glyphs (IBM Plex)[edit]

Hi!

Do you know a technique where it is possible to upload several thousand files at once? I used UploadWizard, but it takes time, as you can only upload 500 files per upload process.

Thanks! --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 07:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Based on a quick search and my (limited) knowledge of mass file movement, your options are an upload bot or a server-side upload.

Deletion requests[edit]

Hi, Do not create deletion requests for simple design such as File:Atlanta1944.webp. Please read COM:TOO. Thanks, Yann (talk) 20:10, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't create the DR. someone uploaded a batch of historical logos for a football club, and I used VFC to mass tag them under F1 (source). In that I missed 1 as pd-old, and this one under TOO. Sorry for the mistake.
All the best - Chuck Talk 20:18, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie Kirk Photo[edit]

Why did you request a deletion request when it is me in the photo I took with Charlie Kirk today? I just cropped myself out so it could be on him. That photo is literally Charlie Kurk and not me. Shoot for the Stars (talk) 22:13, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, how do I not have global contributions when I edit on Wikimedia Commons, Enwiki, Simple Wiki, Spanish Wiki, and so on? Shoot for the Stars (talk) 22:15, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am the wrong person to answer that question, I would recommend the Help Desk.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:19, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We need permission from Charlie Kurk, regardless of if you removed yourself. We need proof of him consenting for his image to be released under a compatible licence, preferably in the form of an email sent to VRT.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:17, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am so confused. All the photos that people have taken of others need permission like this too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shoot for the Stars (talk • contribs) 22:20, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please remember to sign your comments with 4 tide marks (like on en wiki), and yes, they do.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:22, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Photos taken of a person require that persons consent and proof of that consent should be emailed to VRT. I hope that clears things up.
All the best -- Chuck Talk 22:30, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, F10 is not intended to be used for photographs of notable people like Charlie Kirk, and the photograph is in use at English Wikipedia. Additionally, this has EXIF data indicating it was taken from a cellular phone camera and it has not been previously published. In the United States, you don't need permission to take or publish a photograph of a person in a public space. I can add {{Personality rights}} to it though. Abzeronow (talk) 22:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the clarification! (The F10 was added pre-crop.)
