Request for review[edit]

Hello KoH! Please review these two Flickr-sourced files that I uploaded here, under PDM licensing. Since they appear old military photos, I don't know what is the appropriate license for them. Thank you! JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 04:25, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi King of Hearts. I'm wondering what your take on this file's licensing is. We've discussed something similar to this before at Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2020/11#Selfie? and I'm wondering if this is covered by that. This photo appears to be twice removed from the photographer. It was apparently taken by a someone who was acting a guide for the subject of the photo, and the subject of the photo then sent it to the uploader who uploaded it to Commons. This seems to have been taken around the same time as File:Near Avachinsky volcano.jpg, perhaps taken by the same person, uploaded by the same account. That photo, however, is licensed differently and is being claimed as "own work". I think these files were uploaded in good faith, but not sure whether they are licensed correctly or whethet OTRS verification is needed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:54, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried asking the uploader to establish their relationship with the subject? Also, uploading a file with "Own work" is just a matter of checking a box, which is very different from telling a human that you took the photo. Most people are honest when you ask them who took a photo. In general my mantra is trust but verify: 1) if a photo is previously published elsewhere, then OTRS verification with an email address connected to the location of previous publication is required (unless a good reason is provided why such an email address is not available); 2) if a photo is previously unpublished and claimed to the work of someone else, then require an OTRS ticket (in order for the legal act of licensing the work to be valid) but don't verify the sender's identity (since we have nothing to check against); 3) if a photo is previously unpublished and claimed to be own work, then accept the claim if there are no reasons to doubt it. -- King of ♥ 02:22, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. I've posted something on the uploader's user talk page asking for a bit more clarification about the photos. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:44, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yuriy kosygin[edit]

--Kai3952 (talk) 16:40, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

--Kai3952 (talk) 16:52, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your most memorable shot 2020[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

Over the course of the past two years, we've been sharing pictures that have a special meaning with each other at the start of the new year. Today, I'm inviting you add your most memorable shot of 2020 to this page:

I hope you, your familiy, and your friends are well during these difficult times. I wish you all the best for 2021 and I can't wait to see what your most memorable shot of 2020 looks like.

Warmly, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 20:35, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons![edit]

Dear King of Hearts

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this Hindenburg stamp detail by Karl Goetz (d. 1950) are public domain since 2021, but please uncensor this revision? --Frontman830 (talk) 04:49, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please provide evidence to show that the stamp is by Karl Goetz? -- King of ♥ 14:12, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The stamp of Paul von Hindenburg by Goetz since {{PD-old-70}}, but no evidence of URAA restoration in the US. --Frontman830 (talk) 09:14, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Frontman830: Yes, I understand the argument why it's PD *if* it's by Goetz, but can you prove that it is actually by Goetz? -- King of ♥ 13:46, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This artist is not yet public domain in the US under the URAA restoration, per {{Not-PD-US-URAA}} --Frontman830 (talk) 08:37, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still not sure what you are trying to ask me to do. -- King of ♥ 12:48, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC[edit]

Hello King of Hearts,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.

Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.

If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:

Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:

I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:34, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MediaWiki:Relgen.js (Slovene)[edit]

Hello, King of Hearts. I have seen that you have changed the content model for several translations of MediaWiki:Relgen.js. I have now prepared a translation to Slovene (at MediaWiki:Relgen.js/i18n/sl) but don't have the required permissions to enable it. Could you please make it JavaScript? --TadejM (t/p) 15:13, 26 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Coastal photo from Nantian Observation Platform, taken by t981130.jpgFile:Coastal photo from Dawu Sea View Trail, taken by t981130.jpg二個 UDR 請求恢復照片。

Kai3952 (talk) 12:12, 11 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

--Kai3952 (talk) 18:49, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a second look[edit]

Hallo KoH: Please take a second look at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Game Theory (19533668998).png because it appears there are two authors on the paper, thus one author could not upload to flickr with permission because permission of both authors would be needed. Thank you for your reconsideration. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 18:43, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find any evidence of a second author. -- King of ♥ 05:16, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Fotografia Leticia Spiller.jpg[edit]

Hi. As you are busy closing DRs, I believe Commons:Deletion requests/File:Fotografia Leticia Spiller.jpg can be closed summarily as it is a clear case and the file is not being used. (The other file which is on use can wait for its turn, but IMHO this one is a speedy case.) Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 02:27, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick reminder: the meeting with large format-photographer Ben Horne will happen tomorrow, Saturday, March 20. If you haven't done yet, please consider signing up for the event and add your questions to this page. This will be our first virtual meeting in 2021 and I'd be super happy if you could join.
