Renaming Decline

I've declined to rename a file from fully Indian name to partly English partly Indian name as requested by you in with Criteria to decline # 2: Files should NOT be renamed only because the filename is not English and/or is not correctly capitalized (Remember, Commons is a multilingual project, so there's no reason to favor English over other languages). Hindustanilanguage (talk) 19:15, 19 April 2012 (UTC).

Thanks for the Info I dont understand Tamil myself, will keep this in mind. --DBigXray (talk) 19:17, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Although I've declined renaming of the file, but you can, on your own add English description in addition to the existing Tamil description to make it accessible to non-Tamils. Please remember to be exact, neutral and precise in this and do not contain any note which is offensive to any group of people such as Hindus in general or Tamils in particular. File:Agni Missile Range comparison with lines.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Aquarius logo.svg

This logo is just simple text, like the "Coca-Cola" logo. There's nothing special in a logo that only uses simple text. So it has an stilized "A"? Look at other text-made logos around Wikipedia, it's full of them. Please, undo the deletion request, so it doesn't break any rules. {{PD-textlogo}} User talk:CMetalCore 22:40, 22 October 2018 (UTC)

User:CMetalCore The image has now been deleted as a non free image. I don't think that this logo falls into the simple text domain due to stylized A. you can upload this image as NON FREE to a sister wikiproject, but not on commons. NON FREE images are not allowed on commons. see Commons:Licensing#Fair_use_is_not_allowed_on_Commons On wikipedia en:File:Aquarius logo.svg already exists. regards. --DBigXray 09:08, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
@DBigXray: So what about these? File:Electronic-Arts-Logo.svg File:Electronic Arts logo.svg File:Electronic Arts logo black.svg File:EA-Logo.svg They all use the stylized E and A. CMetalCore (talk) 10:47, 23 October 2018 (UTC)

Fair Use

You recently warned me about using Fair-Use photo. As you know, my English skill is bad. Meanwhile our wiki don't share much about licensing. So honestly I don't know how Fair Use works and how to use it. But I think it can use only on en.wiki according to current condition.

Whenever I upload photo, somebody warned me, I have no idea what the intention of them. I looked their user page and I gave up. I let them do whatever they want. In this time, when I looked user page, I found that you're from India, our beloved neighbor. So I hoped you will explain me how can I upload photo for this film.

Best regards,

Hello my dear neighbour, Htoo Ra Aung,
Let me try and explain this in simple english.
  • You cannot upload ANY copyrighted image on Commons. ONLY and ONLY FREE image. (it is explained at Commons:Fair use )
  • if you upload any copyrighted image like (movie poster) in commons it will be deleted. If you keep doing this again and again, you may be blocked from commons.
  • Rules for copyrighted image is slightly different for Commons and Wikipedia.
  • Movie poster is copyrighted image, (if the movie is very old, more than 100 years, It can be uploaded on commons only if the copyright has expired)
  • In order to use movie poster on Wikipedia article, you have to upload it on wikipedia. In this case the copyrighted movie poster will be marked as "Fairuse". Fairuse means that You will only use the copyrighted poster in a small pic, and "only" on the Wikipedia article (in english, Myanmar or other languages) about the movie and no other article. If you use the picture at articles other than the movie article, then "Fairuse " condition is no longer valid and image may be deleted.
  • So following this rule, English Wikipedia can upload copyrighted pictures such as non-free logos, covers, screenshots, or reproductions of other copyrighted works.
  • Just like English Wikipedia, the same rule of Fairuse also applies for Myanmar Wikipedia. https://my.wikipedia.org. So you can upload the FAIRUSE pictures (like movie poster) directly on https://my.wikipedia.org/ if you want to use it on Myanmar Wikipedia.
  • I hope I was able to explain it to you, if something I explained above is not clear to you, please let me know, and I will try to explain again in more detail so that it is clear to you.
regards. --DBigXray 12:51, 19 January 2019 (UTC)
