Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 12:05, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Station-specific categories
[edit]Hi! I'm very pleased to see that you've taken updated pictures of former stations. I highly recommend that you create station-specific categories, as I've done with Category:Lenni station and Category:Wawa station; this makes it easier to find and use the images.
Additionally, please don't use galleries to put all of the images onto the Wikipedia articles. There should only be as many images as are needed to provide illustration for the text; for a short article, this is generally the infobox image plus perhaps one additional image. The commons category is then the appropriate place to view other images. You can see what I've done with the Wawa and Lenni articles on Wikipedia for an example.
Feel free to reply here with any questions you have! Cheers, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:50, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hello. Thank you for reaching out and I appreciate your feedback. I will follow your advice when submitting any new media to Wikipedia. Additionally, see Category:Darlington_station_(SEPTA) where I attempted to do this correctly.

- Looks great so far! I moved that category to match the Wikipedia article name; other than that minor thing, everything else you're doing looks spot on. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:50, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
