Ukrainian general staff brigade insignia

Article(s): 101st Brigade for the Protection of the General Staff

Request
Please make a new SVG file for the insignia of the Ukrainian 101st Brigade for the Protection of the General Staff based on the design of the sleeve insignia and the modern cap badge.
The present file leaves much to be desired and is not representative of what the insignia actually looks like, in contrast to most of our comparable files for other brigades. Images of the present-day sleeve insignia in use can be seen here in full colour and low-visibility variants. (Close-up of the patch here; of the real cap-badge here.) A simplified greyscale design appears on their Facebook here. The existing coat of arms image also lacks the brickwork background. GPinkerton (talk) 18:01, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@GPinkerton: here you go. (talk) 08:11, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Actually, when I look at this flag image, the correct insignia should not include any brick pattern? -- (talk) 17:43, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@: Hi, that looks great! I think a flag from 2014 shouldn't override what we see in the sleeve patches themselves, especially as Ukrainian military heraldry has been revolutionized over the course of the Russo-Ukrainian War. What I was hoping to see was a more simplistic design which would be basically two-dimensional like the sleeve patch shield. Something like File:81 ОАеМБр к.svg or File:1 ОТБр.svg by Inkscape'r. The helmet looks much better now, but I'd like to see a simple shield with flatter rendering of the poleaxes and gauntlet which you have done a great job in vectorizing. 1. 1 Ok
  2. 2 Red and green are OK, but the lion would get from me #e1ed03, it would be best to recreate the original contours, but if it is impossible, this drawing can be left, only with the added tongue and tail closer to the body. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 22:31, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swiãtopôłk:
For #2 at that time the company was anglo-iranian. So, I take elements and colors from and . Orange color is the one for lion on flag for Safavid and Pahlavi dynasties (green and orange colors was taken from the Safavid flag, the lion design was also adapted from this same flag). If you look at the logo , given for (1968-1984), the color is orange... Moreover, your proposed color, #e1ed03, is a

greenish yellow
not really appropriate. To be continued...
#4: This flag seems not to exist. The only pictures I found are only the given logo (i.e. this logo on a white background).
#5: I don't know if this flag exists or not. I've only found this logo on a same green background (often a square design), but no real flag.
If not existing, deletion will be requested for these two last flags. Please, provide a source.
En rouge (talk) 19:19, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@En rouge: I chose this non-standard color because it is present in all images (I think it's because the green underneath shows through) also the dressing of the lion seems to be cohesive [2] [3], This [4] is a link to the official PDF describing the history of the flag, it was one of my sources when I wrote the note, but I haven't opened it in a long time and since Sunday my internet is slower and the PDF won't load. There is #2 but clearly longer than in the photo of the physical flag and I think it's a graphic mistake. If you see any other differences in the PDF compared to what I've provided before, then suggest PDF, it's possible that I rushed the approvals #1. Swiãtopôłk (talk) 21:51, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Swiãtopôłk: I'll talk here about yellow color, in #2 only (but other important info still to go, about #xx later...)
You wrote that your non-standard color is present in all images, but you only link to one image (image zoomed from another, the latter full flag image more appropriate as much in context):
From you link [5] (and [6] which is part of it), you can see that zoomed lion is not the same color as in the entire flag picture. In the full image, the lion is more orang-ish (and even in the zoomed image the green is out of reality, regarding full scope image).
Here are some links to flags I found:
  • [7] first flag on top: almost yellow/orang-ish lion, but others mostly orange or brown
  • [8] (brown)
  • [9] (brown)
  • and, on Commons, , , ,
And ere are two flags, but fake flying flags I suppose, supposedly based on flags from Commons:
I still maintain, as an argument, that in , color yellow in fact is... orange
(and in your sample pdf file, red seems to be inappropriate for #1; this can induce suspicion about color fidelity).
Yours, En rouge (talk) 02:32, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
PS: why don't you provide all the material you have, for the graphists to have more information?
From one video I found in BP web site, for #2 I'll modify orange to a yellow one. To be continued.
@En rouge: Sorry I haven't written back in a month
#4: confirms the pdf
#5: It's a generic company flag, you can see it here. It is still necessary to add a white box and remove the black outline.
#2: The appearance of the lion is very similar on the two flags, I think it's better to recreate the original, rather than using a drawing from a modern interpretation of another flag. Greenish yellow may not have been the best idea, use a light shade whose HTML abbreviation doesn't end in 00.

Flags of Peterborough Cathedral and Southwark Cathedral

Article(s): Peterborough Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral, List of English flags and List of United Kingdom flags.

Request
Will someone please create SVG files for the flag of Peterborough Cathedral (as seen here, and based on the arms here) and the flag of Southwark Cathedral (as seen here and here, and based on the arms here). Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 17:07, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
Comment @Snow Lion Fenian: I think these are not the flags of the cathedral as such, but banners of arms of the bishops themselves. Presumably, they fly to indicate the prelate is there. The cathedral (or its corporation or chapter or whatever) ought to fly the diocesan flag intended for all churches in that bishop's territory: the English cross with the episcopal arms inescutcheoned in the canton. Since copies of the diocesan flags exist already, it might be better to request a full complement of episcopal banners of arms, rather than focusing on individual cathedral churches. GPinkerton (talk) 19:53, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Well, I'm not sure these are supposed to be episcopal banners of arms, considering that neither of the arms/flags in the links match the look of the actual COAs of the Diocese of Peterborough and the Diocese of Southwark. Or am I interpreting your response wrongly? Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 22:20, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: I didn't make clear the difference between the arms of the diocese and the arms of the incumbent bishop (or of some significant predecessor). Could the arms in the flag belong to the bishop personally rather than to the see? How are we identifying the flags with the cathedrals as such? GPinkerton (talk) 22:46, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Well, regarding Southwark Cathedral, this post here (from the Cathedral's FB page) does confirm the arms in the previous link as those of Southwark Cathedral itself. Though I'll try and get back to you regarding Peterborough Cathedral at some point. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 02:36, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. So here's an article (from the Peterborough Cathedral website) that confirms the flag in question as that of Peterborough Cathedral itself. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 15:55, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: No problem. The Southwark Cathedral Facebook post is especially helpful. GPinkerton (talk) 17:23, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of the Church of St Margaret, Westminster Abbey

Request
Can someone please create an SVG file of the flag of the Church of St Margaret, Westminster Abbey, as seen here and here. Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 17:44, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
Question this flag looks like an old banner of arms, but this article suggests the flag was designed by Graham Bartram (@GrahamPadruig: ). Is there any more information available? GPinkerton (talk) 21:11, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GPinkerton: Well, from what I've gathered, the cross-impaling-the-dragon's-head is indeed part of the arms attributed to Saint Margaret of Antioch (if you go on this page here, and scroll down to the "Arms Associated With Saints" section, and then on to the part about "St Margaret of Antioch", you'll see what I mean), but not the crowned portcullis. Which leads me to believe that it was indeed Graham Bartram who designed the modern flag of the COSM, and that it was his decision to add the crowned portcullis onto what is otherwise (as you said) a banner of arms. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 02:19, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Snow Lion Fenian: That is very helpful. I suppose the first step would be a vectorization of the dragon's head arms of St Margaret, after which it will be easy to make up the flag and possibly the various Norfolk arms associated with it. GPinkerton (talk) 17:25, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Help unbaking text in SVG files

For the first two: Vantaa já Kerava pyereestvaijeemkuávlu, Viestâr-Uusimaa pyereestvaijeemkuávlu, Koskâ-Uusimaa pyereestvaijeemkuávlu, and Nuorttâ-Uusimaa pyereestvaijeemkuávlu. For the third: Suomâ and the 19 articles about the regions on the same Wikipedia.

Request
I would like to be able to translate the labels in these SVG files into Inari Sámi so we can use them on the Inari Sámi wp, but this is not possible because the text is baked into the files. In addition, the text will be translated into two other Sámi languages for use on Wikimedia projects. On a more global basis, this would also be useful for other contributors who would like to use these in their own language on their own Wikipedia. This would require the text labels in these files to be unbaked first though. Takkâ! :) --Yupik (talk) 09:00, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the delayed reply. Thank you very much for pointing this out in a way that even I could understand it! This will help me fix future maps too :) -Yupik (talk) 11:12, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Yupik:
For me, I want to see maps (and other diagrams) use text elements rather than converting text to curves. Curves cannot be translated. However, I know that WMF is using a very old SVG rasterizer that also cannot paint text along a path -- something maps often need for rivers and mountain ranges. Given the uniform group naming in the category, the conversion of text to curves may also be an automatic operation.
I also want fonts to be specified using separate properties and use fallback families. However, I'm not sure how much support Adobe Illustrator or other graphics editors provide for those properties. I believe all but Inkscape view SVG as an output or exchange format. It would be awkward if the person who originally edited the file could not read it back into his editor. Furthermore, font naming and matching varies on different platforms, and I do not understand the ramifications.
I'd like to see the entire category improved, but there may be good reasons for the uploaders to have done what they did.

  6. MSC Cruises (for a bigger version of the compass rose; here's the logo)
  7. Costa Crociere
  8. Holland America Line (the colour is darker, as you can see here [20])

Flag of Saint Augustine of Canterbury

Article(s): Saint Augustine of Canterbury, List of English flags and List of United Kingdom flags.

Request
Could someone please create an SVG file of the flag attributed to Saint Augustine of Canterbury, as seen here (preferably in the 3:5 ratio). As the article says, it's based on the Saint's medieval coat of arms, as seen here and here, albeit without the flower in the upper-right quarter. And, if it's okay, I'd also ask that an SVG file of the COA be created as well (albeit shaped like this). Thanks. Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 13:43, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Info @Snow Lion Fenian: You already made this request in December 2022 (Commons:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop/Archive/2022#Flag of Saint Augustine of Canterbury). It was only archived hours ago (Revision #731088684). I don't think it's becoming to make repeat requests. It's a volunteer project after all. If you're impatient, you could try doing some of these many flags yourself; it's not difficult in Inkscape (for example) to make simple geometric flag SVGs. Emblems of U.S. unified combatant commands

Article(s): en:Unified combatant command, among many others.

Request
Please create SVG versions of these U.S. Department of Defense seals and emblems. I've tried making them myself on Illustrator and Inkscape, but find that it's too difficult unless I excessively simplify them. Details should be as sharp as possible, and shading should be very slightly flattened out. Additional reference links are attached to the gallery area. 武嶺學校校徽 (Emblem of Wuling School)

Article(s): zh:武岭中学

Request
I would like to ask someone to help make a svg file of this emblem. The color of the emblem in Commons looks dark, while according to another photograph I found outside Commons, the colour is brighter: The pattern of grass is in green, for example. So please refer to the external image when you are working on it. Only the triangular emblem is required, the Chinese characters below is not needed in the svg file. For Description: the author is 武嶺中學 (original design) and [WIKIGRAPHIST'S USERNAME] (vectorisation); permission is {{PD-China-1996}} for the original design and another permission chosen by the Wikigraphist.--源義信 (talk) 11:41, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
