Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello, H. Dumas!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Habitat

[edit]

Bonjour Hélène Perhaps you would like to put some photos of your collecting locality on your user page. At the top where yiu mention it.No doubt you know the work of Henri Fabre.I still read these wonderful accounts and feel the sun of S. France. It's nice here too but very cold. Empty galleries

[edit]

You have created a lot of empty gallery pages just now, Special:Contributions/H._Dumas. Were these intended to be new categories, or will you be adding content to them shortly? Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 13:29, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to get blue colour on the links on your userpage, you could just format them like this:
Siricidae
wich gives Siricidae. Regards, Finn Rindahl (talk) 20:38, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Thank you for your help Finn. I think I succeeded this time. Is it possible to put links on my user page (on "Scelionidae" for example") to wikipedia pages (the page of Scelionidae for example)? --H. Dumas (talk) 18:24, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can format it as Scelionidae (or fr/de/es etcetera...) Finn Rindahl (talk) 11:18, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- I've understood :-) Many thanks Finn! Hélène --H. Dumas (talk) 13:42, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
