Азовсталь

Все ВСУ и АЗОВ здались в плен, Азовсталь под контролем РФ 37.215.37.184 19:13, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Physeters 20:24, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Re: Problem with Ukraine War Animation?

Hello!

Listen, the problem was that, yes the animation wasn't working in the thumbnail form, but it also wasn't working when i opened the file and it wasn't working in the Commons either. I don't know the cause of the problem. If the file is too big, maybe a new is to be created? Who knows, but it wasn't working at all, pal. But gifs and animations are not really my area. Coltsfan (talk) 11:59, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

That's interesting. I have never heard of a gif not displaying at all, even in media viewer. I shall have to investigate further. Thanks! Physeters 19:10, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
Now only clicking the gif makes the animation work, which is good enough, i suppose, but one can say it loses a bit of its appeal because you have to click and see, but i don't know if that can be fixed at all. Good work, though. Coltsfan (talk) 23:38, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
@Coltsfan, On Wikipedia, we came to the conclusion that the best solution was to divide the animation into two separate files, corresponding to the two stages of the invasion. Both files play in media viewer and in thumbnail form. So if you go to the article now you'll find two files instead of one. The full animation is still there a will continued to be updated, but it will slowly be phased out in favor of the divided version. Thanks for bringing my attention to the issue in the first place!

Russia

Hey I suggest uploading your new picture with the Annexed territories here, as the other page is just for Crimea. Then you could change the picture on Wikipedia to this image. Aaron106 (talk) 15:06, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

@Aaron106 ✓ Done! I see that you have already put a request to change the image on the Russia talk page, so I'll revert the other one it if they change the image to this one. Physeters 15:13, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Great. Also would be good if we could get a globe version of Ukraine with the new annexed territories. I can't seem to find any on Wikimedia. --Aaron106 (talk) 15:18, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

There is one. It has much higher detail, so it will take me some time to edit it.
Physeters 15:24, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Hey real quick, you could make a File:Russian Federation (orthographic projection) - Annexed territories disputed.svg and upload your picture and the date of photo would show September 30 2022 and not 24 (which it is on this one) which would make more sense, And we could use that picture instead. --Aaron106 (talk) 15:55, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

What date it says the file was created on doesn't really matter. We can just change the name of the file. The current name doesn't make much sense anyway. Physeters 20:40, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Some guy reverted your edit on the Globe version of Ukraine, also for the 2022 Invasion could you add a line for the disputed border like is the case with Crimea. --Aaron106 (talk) 23:55, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

For the invasion map, it might make more sense to leave it as it is. Physeters 00:01, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Ok. --Aaron106 (talk) 00:05, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

In regards to the new globe image, do you want to upload a new file, I was just thinking it would be a good idea so we can keep the disputed Luhansk and Donestk territories to one picture. --Aaron106 (talk) 14:31, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Map on the Russo-Ukranian war

Thank you for the updates of the Russo-Ukranian war. However i have a suggestion: shouldn't the "Urkanian advances" be labelled "Ukranian counter-offensives" or "territories reconquered by Ukraine"?Barjimoa (talk) 12:09, 10 October 2022 (UTC)

Probably. I'll ask over at the file's talk page to see what others think. Physeters 00:11, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Ukraine Regional Occupation Maps

Boundary of the occupied area in the Donbass before 2022

What I am looking for is the exact boundary of the occupied area in the Donbass before 2022, in the sense of the municipalities not under Ukrainian government control. Is there something like a list, or even geodata? Or is it just the contact line?--Antemister (talk) 22:44, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

@Antemister The ISW'S Interactive Ukraine Map shows the pre-2022 boundary. There is probably some way to request the shapefiles from them, but I don't know how. If you would like SVG versions of the boundary, I've created one for Donetsk and another has created one for Luhansk using the pre-2022 boundaries. I hope these links help! Physeters 23:02, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, the ISW data is exactly what I am looking for. For the extraction of the shapefile, I'll ask an expert, that should be possible.--Antemister (talk) 10:32, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
Great! Good luck with whatever you're doing. Physeters 15:56, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Map of Russian occupation of Chernihiv Oblast

Hello! Could you create a map of the Russian occupation of Chernihiv Oblast in svg format? There is a map of some kind, but it does not look like the occupation maps of other areas. This is the only map that is not visually similar to the occupation maps of other oblasts. Separately, maps of occupations of Zhytomyr and Sumy Oblasts are not available in svg format, unfortunately. 95.47.59.233 22:52, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Sure! I'll work on one over the course of this week. Physeters 23:04, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
