Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

copyright[edit]

Template:PD-PRC-exempt does not apply to the images you uploaded recently. Please learn what is copyright before you edit. Thanks. --Neo-Jay 21:10, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I obtained the images from a public domain http://www.beijingupdates.com/. As a matter of fact, the photographer is a friend on that web site which I visit everyday. He actually shared those photos with all of us in the forum of that web site, for free of course. Please explain why Template:PD-PRC-exempt doesn't apply to those images and how to correct it. Thank you. --PoZoPOCO 15:51, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please read carefully Template:PD-PRC-exempt. The photos do not fall within any scope of it. Thank you. --Neo-Jay 19:08, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello PoZoPOCO,

You have uploaded several images that are copyright violations and you have done so despite our requests not to do so, and despite our instructions. If you do not stop uploading pictures that are not free, your account will be blocked. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on the Wikimedia Commons. Please do leave me a message if you have further questions. Yuval Y § Chat § 23:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am indeed completely lost. I thought I followed the instruction carefully and provided all the info. I obtained the images from a public domain http://www.beijingupdates.com/. As a matter of fact, the photographer is a friend on that web site which I visit everyday. He actually shared those photos with all of us in the forum of that web site. Why do you think they are not free? By studying this picture at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tianning_sita.jpg, it seems all I need to modify is changing "Permission" to "Released under the GNU Free Documentation License." Is it correct? Just as plain text or code it, which I'll need your help to do so. Your help is greatly appreciated. --PoZoPOCO 15:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I uploaded the images again using "GNU Free Documentation license". Please let me know if there are still any problems. --PoZoPOCO 13:56, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are not the author of these images. You have no right to put them under GUN Free Documentation license. Even though your friend may share these photos with you on a website, it does not mean that the author allows these photos to be used under GUNF. Your GUNF tags have been removed and the images may be deleted soon. Thank you for your understanding. --Neo-Jay 19:05, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My friend doesn't just share the photo with me on the web site. He posted the photo publicly so that anyone can access them. He agreed that I can upload them here. I indicated it clearly in the info area "Permission = Yes". Doesn't this case belong to GUNF? What is the right license for this case? Thank you again. --PoZoPOCO 19:38, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, posting one's own photos to a publicly accessible website does not mean that the author allows the photos to be used under GFDL. You need to present clear evidence for the author's permission of GFDL. Can you prove? --Neo-Jay 19:46, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I asked him and he said yes. It is as simple as that. But anyway what "evidence" do you need? I can ask him for that. I don't see any problem at all. --PoZoPOCO 19:55, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that at every image's bottom there is a sign "BeijingUpdates.com". And please note that the copyright claim at this website is "All Right Reserved by BeijingUpdates.com 2007.5". These photos obviously are not free. Are this author an employee of this website?--Neo-Jay 19:58, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He is the owner of the website. Those photos are his. He let us share his photos all over the internet on many web sites because he is happy many people can see and appreciate his work. The watermark "BeijingUpdates.com" is there so that people know where they are from. --PoZoPOCO 20:05, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If he is really the owner of this website, he needs to remove the "All Right Reserved" tag from his website, and post a statement on his website that clearly permits all his photos can be used under GFDL.--Neo-Jay 20:08, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I won't teach him how to run his website. I can personally ask him to send his original photos to me and a statement from him saying "Permission = Released under the GNU Free Documentation License." --PoZoPOCO 20:28, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am afraid that such a statement in your private correspondence will be very hard to be verified. And when his own website still uses "All Right Reserved" tag, he can easily deny the statement submitted by you and sue Wikipedia for copyright violation. I suggest you not try to use his photos. --Neo-Jay 20:36, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know you are probably trying hard to get this issue resolved. But it seems to me it is going nowhere. You kept saying "verify" things, but it seems nothing is good enough. If you upload a photo of yourself, how does Wiki verify it is indeed taken by you? How does WiKi prevent someone else from jumping out and claiming the copyright of the photo and sue WiKi? What you are basically saying is even if he uploads his photos here himself, it is still not OK simply because he also posted his photos at beijingupdates.com. If that is the case, then forget it. I think he has the right to post his photos anywhere he wants. They are his own photos for god sake. --PoZoPOCO 20:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia presumes that the copyright tag added by the uploader is correct until counter-evidence is founded. For example, if the author posts these pictures here and states that they are under GFDL, then Wikipedia will take no action unless someone like me finds that these pictures have been used in other website and raises the copyright question. If someone else jumps out and claims the copyright of the photo, Wikipedia will remove that photo in dispute and avoid legal action. Your case is not so difficult. If the author really likes to release his photos to public domain or under GFDL, he can make a public statement on his website. That's not a big deal. --Neo-Jay 21:04, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
