@Soudipbera: yes there is lists but it depends on the country (for many country the list is splitted between region or territorial subdivisions, see Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Wiki Loves Monuments for example, so there is a list of list ; for some country there is a map avalaible too). • Only pictures you upload this month will count for Wiki Loves Monuments. The pictures can be from any time, they just need to be uploaded this month. Pictures you uploaded to the Commons before this month will not count for Wiki Loves Monuments.
• Photos should be uploaded to the contest for the country the photo was taken in. For example, I live in the United States, but I took some photos in France when I visited. I would upload those photos of French monuments to Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in France. If the country you visited is not participating in Wiki Loves Monuments this year, unfortunately you won't be able to submit those photos to Wiki Loves Monuments.

List of UN-PHOTOGRAPHED places?

It seems like, in the past, it has been possible to track historic places that didn't already have photos on Wikimedia. This year, I can find a list of ALL National Register sites in my state (South Carolina), but I can't find a list of those that don't already have a photo. Am I missing something? Hi @ProfReader:

• I recommend using our map tool, which lets you zoom into an area and see all local NRHP sites. Sites marked with a red marker are likely missing a photo (I say likely because not all entries are 100% up-to-date; you can double-check on each site's respective Wikipedia article).
• You can also check out this list on the English Wikipedia, maintained by WikiProject NRHP. Here you can see what percent of each county is illustrated, and then select the county to get a full list and see what's missing.

It doesn't matter where you live, you can submit a photo from anywhere. Just make sure that you enter the correct contest for the country in which your photos were taken. You can find the list of participating countries here. ~~

Yesterday I uploaded an image of Hafoty, Llansadwrn, Ynys Môn, Cymru/Wales. The monument is still showing as unphotographed. How long does it take for images to appear?

@Cathigalesa: Images have to be manually checked and confirmed before they appear in Monumental. This may take a while - there is no set time. However, your participation in the competition does not depend on this. As long as the images are on WIkimedia Commons and uploaded through the competition platform, you should be fine. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm technology challenged. I'm trying to submit a photo I took to the contest. But I already uploaded it to Commons several minutes ago, using the standard upload wizard. Now, the contest uploader isn't allowing me to use that same photo. It says it's a duplicate of the photo I just uploaded. But that's the photo I want to submit! Help!

@Roadscholar1963: Thanks for attempting to participate. There are workarounds for this by adding the competition template. However, the image you uploaded was likely not taken by yourself (it's already available here), and constitutes a copyright violation. I will nominate it for deletion. How do I get a photo license for my picture?

Hi, I am asking this question for me and my husband. I just signed up for an account, and my husband especially wants to sign up for the monuments project, because he takes even more photos than I do. We have never heard of this licensing before, so we need a little help knowing where we can obtain a free license for each of our respective photos. How do we do this? What is the process? @Makabon: Welcome to Wiki Loves Monuments and Wikimedia Commons! A 'free license' in this context means the set of conditions under which people can use your photo. In our case, the license will almost always be Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike, which means that anyone can use the photo, for any purpose, as long as they give attribution (to you, as photographer) and if they make a derivative work (for example, a cut version, or a collage) that they release that derivative work under the same conditions. This is more explained here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/

As part of the upload process, you will be asked to confirm that you release the photo under this license. That is all that it takes. As long as you are the photographer, this is all quite straight forward. It is an instant process, and costs nothing. It may make it harder to 'sell' your photos commercially though (if you were planning to do that).

Please do note that your husband will have to create his own account, and upload the photos from there (this may be logical, but just making sure). If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask! Effeietsanders (talk) 21:33, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi @Hooriscool: In the United States there are many registries of historical sites. A registry is simply an organized list. On the national level, we have the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), which is the United States' government's official list of over 80,000 historic sites deemed worth of preservation. Each site has its own unique NRHP number/ID, also called a reference number. For example, the Statue of Libery has a reference number of 66000058. We ask for you to provide registry numbers when possible, to make organizing and tracking photos easier.

There are many other historical societies and organizations in the U.S. that maintain their own registries as well. You can find many of them through our state and local guides (for example, California has its own list of California Historical Landmarks). As long as a location you are taking a photo of appears on an authoritative historical registry, it can be submitted to Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States by following the instructions here.

I accidentally uploaded two image files to the wrong category where they now appear alongside the correct image files. The uploader won't let me upload them to the correct category because they are "duplicates" and there seems to be no way to remove them. Dspguru (talk) 12:44, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

@Dspguru: , if I correctly understand your request, you can edit categories manyally. Go to the page of your file, open it for editing, and on the bottom, there are categories. Or write here what you want to change and in which files.--Ymblanter (talk) 12:54, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

@Dspguru: on the top of this page, you see a link 'uploads'. That gives you an overview of all your own uploaded files.

But the tab does not show me only my files. It shows all the uploaded files. I narrowed that down by selecting only images in canton Zurich, but although I can now see the original files uploaded in error I can't do anything with them. In this case I have one file which belongs in its category and two other files which belong in a different category. @Dspguru: If you look all at the top of this very page, and click on 'uploads', it should give you an overview of only your files. If for some reason that doesn't work, try clicking on 'contributions'.

It is not possible to delete files, but you can change their descriptions. We can help with that if you can't do it yourself. There is no "contributions" link. Understand that I don't care how the unwanted image files get removed, or even if they get removed, so long as they are tagged as inappropriate or (preferably) tagged as "for deletion". In the map of Nantwich, to the West of Nantwich, near Shropshire union canal, you have listed as needing a photo the building "Basin End". This no longer exists. it collapsed, the remains removed & has been replaced with a temporary canvas structure. Should this be removed from the map? @Steven Manning: Hi Steve, thanks for the note. Historic England haven't got around to delisting this yet, and it's still on the official register: see here. If anyone took a photo of the building before it was destroyed, we love to have it. Actually, the banner is a global banner and is used in many different countries. We found it hard to find a representative image for each country that would do justice to the diversity, and went therefore with this image. Thanks for your submission earlier! This photo was submitted in 2017. That means you cannot submit it again this year. However, I would encourage you to submit other photos that you may have made, or make even more photos of undocumented heritage. While most sites in San Juan have a photo already (although improvement seems definitely possible for some), there are plenty of sites elsewhere on the island that don't have any photo yet. Hi there - awesome idea for contest and excited to see if my fiancé decides to enter! Question though and just in case - do all submissions have to be taken within 2018? As we have some amazing photos of his taken of historic sites here in Virginia over last couple of years (one in particular from March 2016...would photos dating back to 2016 potentially still be eligible? Confirmation of email address links to a confusing page for changing your email address

I log into Wikimedia before uploading. After uploading photos and completing the associated information fields, Wikimedia asks to confirm your email by re-entering your Wikimedia account password. The password works fine, but you then go to a web page for changing your email address. This has confused other users and myself.

Users will typically not want to change their email address. Re-entering the same email is understandably rejected as a response. Please make this less confusing; upon confirmation it should go to a page stating "email confirmed" with option to "if you want to change your email address, LINK to the change email address page".

The "Verify your identity" page has an empty field for Password, with boxed text “Enter your password.” After entering my password and clicking on the log in box I get the following page:

This page is confusing. It has the potential to have the email address removed (!) if one leaves this blank and clicks “Change email”.

@Romaine: Thanks. Ideally, the link only appears if someone does not have an active email address. But I guess that is not feasible right now. At least the wording should be more specific ("Please check if your email address is confirmed. Without confirmed email address, you cannot win. Wiki Loves Monuments Entry (submission) of Photograph

I entered my photo through the Commons link and I saw it said complete. I really cannot understand what more I need to do to enter it for the Wiki Loves Monuments competition. I think you may have uploaded it via the standard upload link, rather than the competition map, so it wasn't automatically tagged for entry into the contest. Hello! For being considered in the Wiki Loves Monuments competition, photos need to be submitted by the end of September, as judging beings shortly after. However, anyone can contribute their photos to the Wikimedia Commons at any time through the standard upload form (after creating an account). I think you don't need to create a new account, because in general every user has also a "global account", created automatically, that means you can login with your user nickname and password in every Wikimedia project in every language. After you login, you have to find out the monument in the list (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progetto:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018/Monumenti) then you have to click the button "carica" near the monument and follow the instructions. Wiki Loves Monuments Canada

Your upload requires some sort of number to identify the monument. No matter where I look I can find no such identifiers for my monument: the Vimy Memorial to the Canadian soldiers at the Battle of Vimy Ridge. In fact following your suggested sites I can find no identity numbers for any Canadian Historic sites. In fact I find your "help" less than helpful. For instance for this message I am instructed to scroll down and click "Save page" in the grey area BUT there is no button titles "Save page" anywhere on the screen. Yes, I scrolled right to the bottom! And there is no indication of how I will receive an answer to this question.

I have submitted three images so far for the monuments contest, after registering a new account yesterday to do so. After each submission, I get a page that says: 'Your upload was sucessful. We need you to confirm your email address. Without your email address, we can't contact you if you win.' Then there is a link that takes me to a page to change my email address, which I did not want to do. I changed it the second time to see if I would stop getting the confirmation needed message, but I got it again after submitting the third photo. @Sukanya majumder: This sounds like the upload interface is working, but when you get the dialog window asking to select your files, something goes wrong in the communication with your phone. Because we cannot see your phone, it is hard to find the exact cause. Do you have the option of loading the photos to a laptop/desktop computer, and upload them from there?
