File:Coup belt.svg[edit]

Hello, are you able to create a new map/amend as similar to the several countries are missing from what is defined as the coup belt? Be good to have a different colour maybe for when coups were last held?

They countries are:

  • Nigeria
  • Togo
  • Benin
  • Ivory Coast
  • Gambia
  • Senegal
  • Mauritania
  • Sierra Leone
  • Central African Republic
  • South Sudan
  • Ethiopia
  • Eritrea
  • Gabon
  • Cameroon

I will not update the current map. Anyone is free to create a new one, as the file is an editable SVG.
That map was created to show the Coup Belt, not all African countries with coups (I suppose I should change the description of it, to avoid confusion). It contains the countries on the Coup Belt Wikipedia page (before your unsourced addition of more), for which it was created.
As for adding others, I don't see the source for doing that. The Coup Belt is, as the name implies, a belt. It is not representative of all African countries that have had coups recently. Sources such as The Guardian show a few more countries than the Wikipedia page, but not nearly as many as you list.
Countries that have had their membership in ECOWAS and/or the African Union suspended represent a subset of the Coup Belt, no where near all the countries you list.
Finally, I think the map you're looking for already exists, in the form of File:Coup-detats-in-Africa-Aug2023.png. Discombobulates (talk) 10:25, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
File:Cold War alliances mid-1975.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
