User talk:FISHERAD~commonswiki
Hi, do you have any written permission from the photographer that anybody can use the photo for any purpose? The web link [1] says that the content is protected by copyright. Thuresson 13:51, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Pay attention to copyright | Image:LSESUGreenParty.gif has been marked as a copyright violation. The Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added will soon be deleted. If you believe this image is not a copyright violation, please explain why on the image talk page.

While I understand that you are allowed to use this logo on wikipedia, wikimedia commons has a much more demanding policy: a file on commons can be reused by anyone, for any purposes CyrilB 12:41, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- I am astounded that this file has been deleted! It is not a copyright 'violation' in any sense as the image is not copyrighted! Rather than deleting it, I would have appreciated some guidance, as someone new to Wikipedia, on how to make this acceptable. This is a photograph made by a good friend, who sent the image to me to be used in election material (distributed throughout London and the LSE campus) for the Green Party at the LSE and who is fine with having it used on Wikipedia and reused by anyway. Please tell me what else I need to make this acceptable... FISHERAD 17:58, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- I understand that this deletion may look surprising, as you clearly described the origin of the file. In your case, the text you put on the image exclusively and explicitely mentionned authorized use on wikipedia, so I requested the deletion as this violates the rules of commons. The problem is that wikimedia commons is not just a repository of files for the wikipediae or for the projects of the wikimedia fundation, but also for any other project that complies with our license.
- This means that by putting a file on commons, you allow anyone to use it, modify it and do whatever derivative work with it. This might be a problem for something like a logo, as it is supposed to represent an organisation, like a signature is supposed to represent someone. A free logo might be reused by anyone, for example to create documents and attribute them to your organisation. Are you sure you're prepared to that? Even the logo of the wikimedia fundation are not available on commons, because of these issues!
- If you want to re-upload this file, you have to make sure that you have the copyright (or that the copyright holder agree) on the logo itself (not just on the file). Then, I think you should ask for more information on the commons:Village pump, because you'll find here many people with good experience about copyright.
- Copyright rules are very complicated, and I'm absolutely not a specialist. In the case I was wrong to ask the deletion of your file, I sincerely apologize CyrilB 18:38, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your message. You should get a written permission, not from Derek Wall, but from the photographer, that the photographer allows anybody to use this photo for any purpose. Please attach it to Image:DerekWall.jpg. Thuresson 09:03, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
File tagging File:YoungGreens.gif[edit]
This media was probably deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:YoungGreens.gif. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:YoungGreens.gif]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called FISHERAD. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name FISHERAD~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
