Map creation[edit]

I discovered you by looking for examples of placement of Independents for arch-shaped parliament diagrams, knowing of course that Cornwall has a long history of an abundant number of Indie councillors on its council, of which I notice we both use the same tool!

I also notice that you are adding nice, colourful and complex images of Cornwall and Devon election results. I have been interested in creating such images myself for a while but honestly have no idea where to start with them. Would it be possible for you to point me in the right direction for how to create them. Thanks! :) Uamaol (talk) 09:02, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the wonderful map of Somerset County election 2022. Forgive me for pointing out two tiny mistakes: the spelling of ‘Bridgwater’. Also Glastonbury and Street are two separate divisions, and Street needs some dots. Keep up the good work! Benet Allen (talk) 07:15, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

.. also, please correct the spelling of ‘Liberal’ in the key! Benet Allen (talk) 10:35, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ward maps[edit]

Hi,

I am fairly new to political Wikipedia and I notice you have produced an abundance of ward maps showing party representation.

I wondered if you could tell me how they can be made? There are some in my part of the country that need updating but I don’t know how to do it.

Thanks :) Green450 (talk) 20:36, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Map template[edit]

Could you provide a link to the template you use for your election maps? I would like to have a go at creating some of my own. --BSMIsEditing (talk) 13:32, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes sure, I'll whip something up. Talleyrand6 (talk) 13:32, 6 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Maps[edit]

I'm not even sure of the name for the type of maps you create, but I've been pulling out my hair wondering how you do it? I make maps in QGIS, but have no idea how to even go about creating one like this. What's the name of the type of maps you create, and which program do you use?--Criticalthinker (talk) 23:39, 7 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what to say man. They're just simple vector maps of vote shares in elections mainly. Most of it is just unnecessary flourish I add for detail. I use Inkscape. On the note about QGIS, I only use it to check shapefiles which I then convert to vectors. I can't use QGIS for the life of me, I'd rather do it the more comfortable, albeit slower and harder way.
If you have further questions feel free to ask. Talleyrand6 (talk) 00:03, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nigerian election maps[edit]

Hello, I've been following your maps on here, twitter, and reddit for while now and wanted to ask if you would consider making some Nigerian election maps. As one of the world's biggest democracies, it would be great for many Nigerian election pages to have maps for the first time. I know you likely have other projects but I'd appreciate if you could consider making some for Nigerian pages once you're done with UK local maps. If you'd like I could give some suggestions, Thanks! Watercheetah99 (talk) 19:17, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

沁水湾 has already done a few. I can look into updating the presidential ones. Talleyrand6 (talk) 19:20, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That'd be great! You could also look at adding to some of the gubernatorial elections like the recent Anambra election or the 2020 Ondo (results), 2020 Edo (results), and 2019 Bayelsa (results) pages. You could also make other maps: ones for gubernatorial election overview pages or updating the Governor's offices current situation page. Watercheetah99 (talk) 21:59, 17 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just to re-up this, a few days ago there was a gubernatorial election. Like the one last year, I put LGA results on the page if you would like to take a look. Thanks, Watercheetah99 (talk) 07:13, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up regarding the French Legislative election[edit]

Just a heads up. It doesn't really make much sense to make a separate constituency winner map for each round of the French legislative election. It'd make more sense for File:2022 French Legislative Election Results Map First Round Parties.svg to represent the winners across both rounds. The reason for this is that in the last legislative election, only four candidates won outright in the first round, where a candidate needs an absolute majority of votes cast, and votes equaling 12.5% of the voters in the electorate. Gust Justice (talk) 22:28, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes I agree, that was meant to be the final map after the second round. I'll publish a vote share map for 1st round, then second round, and wrap it up by an individual party map, the one you linked. Currently working on vote share maps for 2012 & 2017 as they have the same borders lol Talleyrand6 (talk) 23:25, 18 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2022 Andalusian election map[edit]

Hi! First of all, thank you very much for your work with this map, which I really think is useful, visually pleasant and very descriptive of the election result. First of all, I think there is a minor issue with the "President Before/After" text as it seems to overlap with the "Juan Manuel Moreno" text when smaller previews are shown.

Secondly, I'm interested in knowing how do you do these kind of maps. I think these could work very well for regional elections across Spain (starting with Andalusian regional elections, which as you may see, use only very simple .png versions as of currently, similar to the one you replaced with this new .svg map), but I'm aware this may be a titanic work for one person to conduct on their own (specially seeing that you do these maps for all kind of elections across the world!).

Thank you very much for your work and looking forward for your response! Cheers. Impru20 (talk) 06:14, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. On the first note, that's an error with how Wikicommons renders vector thumbnails. If you open up the file in a new tab it should look how I made it look. Wikicommons is out of date and can't render modern vectors and fonts it doesn't approve of. I use Century Gothic and it doesn't like it very much. Second note, yes I plan to do more low level maps seeing as I'm not done with the Months long titan that was the French election. I appreciate your comments and I'm still figuring out the best way to explain the maps I make, other people have asked. Sincerely, Talleyrand6 (talk) 13:38, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2022 Italian election maps[edit]

Hi Talleyrand6, thank you for uploading the 2022 election maps of Italy; I'd like to suggest you a change in the legend, I think we should use the English translations so "Centre-right", "Centre-left", "Five Star Movement" and maybe "South Tyrolean People's Party". Thank you! -- Nick.mon (talk) 09:24, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

sure Talleyrand6 (talk) 16:14, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I think there is a mistake in the FPTP map: Milano and Torino should be switched (the upper detail box on the left shows Torino, not Milano, while the lower box is actually Milano) Novariensis (talk) 16:57, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Talleyrand6, first of all a great thanks for your work with the 2022 election maps of Italy! I'm here also to tell you that there are two mistakes that involve the borders of regions Marche and Emilia-Romagna because the two municipalities of Montecopiolo and Sassofeltrio moved by law from region Marche to Emilia-Romagna on June 2021, so their citizens voted in the single-member district U11 (Rimini) for the Chamber of Deputies and in the single-member district U05 (Rimini) for the Senate of the Republic. Your maps are not up-to-dated and I believe they should be. Many thanks. --Krepideia (talk) 07:14, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thank you for pointing this out. I'm using shapefiles from 2017 after the Rosatellum was passed. I'm not sure when these towns changed regions but that's an easy fix. Talleyrand6 (talk) 13:43, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you can find the correct and up-to-dated data from ISTAT website; ISTAT means Italian National Institute of Statistics that is an Italian public administration of research. Also I think should be given attention to the Municipality of Sappada that moved from region Veneto to Friuli-Venezia Giulia on 2017. --Krepideia (talk) 15:27, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
alrighty. Talleyrand6 (talk) 16:34, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Talleyrand6, thanks a lot for the maps! About File:2022 Italian General Election Deputies Single Member Seats.svg, there is a mistake in the Napoli enlargement. In particular the only "blue" district is not part of the Campania 1 district (it's actually part of Campania 2), so I think it should be removed from the enlargement. Yakme (talk) 12:20, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The fully Italian map outlines Campania 1, but the problem with it is that blue district is that it's too small to be seen easily when looking at the whole map. Thus, I put it in a little box with the other Neapolitan seats. I can trace another black line to split them up in the inset. Talleyrand6 (talk) 13:38, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That would also work, thanks. Yakme (talk) 12:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Could I use parts of your 2022 Northern Ireland map (Just the fluff parts on the left showing the candidates and the title, etc) as apart of a map I'm making?[edit]

Hello! I really enjoy your 2022 NI assembly map, and I think it's a really great format! I was wondering if I could use parts of it in a revamp of the 2020 Dem Primaries map that I'm making? Obviously only the parts that would be transferrable, ofc. Codename Jenny V (talk) 22:40, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah but if you want, but I think I prefer this format, the straight edges, etc. Talleyrand6 (talk) 01:57, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

house county maps[edit]

Dear user, just wondering where you found the maps that includes congressional district county splits Gordfather69 (talk) 00:46, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I made them. Talleyrand6 (talk) 16:59, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1856 presidential election[edit]

Hi I was wondering if you have any plans on making a 1856 presidential election results map by county the current one on there isn't an svg and I really like the way your 1860 map is. Uhrfuvf (talk) 02:03, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ye, sure Talleyrand6 (talk) 03:14, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nigeria[edit]

Hey, I was wondering if you'd make some maps for last weekend's Nigerian elections? I've been following your maps for ages and love your style for executive elections like France, a style that I think could help better visualize the presidential race. I've already put data on the presidential page by state and region; it'll take a while longer to find and edit in legislative data though. We've made a Wikipedia:WikiProject Elections and Referendums/Nigeria legend colors based off the American proposal colors but you could adapt whatever scheme you want, there isn't much standardization yet. I know you likely have other projects but I'd appreciate if you could consider it, thank you. Watercheetah99 (talk) 19:20, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

VA House of Delegates[edit]

Hey there! I saw you made a map of the new VA Senate lines and was wondering if you would be making map of the new House of Delegates lines as well? Really like your work! Rmh0709 (talk) 00:25, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

yes! I can!
I learned my lesson from the senate map and it will be a more useable file. I know that 24mb is a little much hehe. Talleyrand6 (talk) 16:48, 18 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please help me with the Kazakh election map?[edit]

So I made the File:2023 Kazakh legislative election - List results.svg using Illustrator and the problem is that it doesn't render properly from page and description view compared to other SVG maps of elections people made. The map looks fine when you download and view it by clicking "Original file" in Commons, but the problem here is that it doesn't show the dotted lines properly and the texts are being "squished" when you click "Open in Media Viewer". I don't know whether this is processing issue that resolves itself or I made some unknown mistake. Do you mind if you re-render it and maybe fix some slight issues on map via Inkscape, I will be greatly appreciated! ShadZ01 (talk) 05:25, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2022 French Legislative Election Results Map Second Round[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for all your work. Could you replace "National Front" with "National Rally" on the 2022 French Legislative Election Results Map Second Round.svg map please? It is the correct name. Thanks again. 2A02:A452:7DDC:1:61F4:DE3D:2C50:36B 13:48, 9 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Election maps[edit]

Hey. I have a couple of questions. How can I make my own proper election maps to use them for wikipedia? For example, the one similiar to the one used in the 2022 French presidential election, which you yourself made. Or like the one used in the 2010 Bosnian general election. Are both of them made the same way, and if so is it using some kind of wiki app? Bakir123 (talk) 18:07, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Another map request[edit]

Hi, I'm currently working on an alt-hist about the 2011 Canadian federal election, and I was wondering if you had any tips on how to create a map like yours, maybe even a template. Also, do you manually color in each district, or is there a way to automate it? Thanks in advance Montyork0601 (talk) 17:26, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
