Re:Help with chemical diagram[edit]
Hello!
The image you want to vectorize is actually a very good place to start if you're unfamiliar with SVG creation. Unfortunately Inkscape's potrace formula (to trace bitmaps and create the svg version) doesn't work very well with such diagrams; you have to re-draw the image by hand, but with this image it should be fairly quick and easy :)
I'll create quick tutorial with some screenshots; it shouldn't take me long. I'll start the image and you can finish it, and then you'll have the knowledge to create more of your own :D
I'll leave a link here when I'm finished. Regards, -- Editor at Large • talk 15:00, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how familiar you are with Inkscape; this could very well be all information you know already, as I've written it to be as explanatory as possible. You can skip the details and just read the bold text if you know your way around the program a little, or just glance over the images if you know how to use Inkscape thoroughly :D
- The tutorial is here, and the partially-completed svg is here. Save the svg, then nce you've opened your png in Inkscape go to "File" and select "Import" to add the svg. You'll have to move it to the correct spot as the svg saved to a different size than the png :)
- I hope I was clear enough and not too long-winded! Let me know if you have questions or comments or if it makes no sense ;) -- Editor at Large • talk 20:35, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
That's sort of tricky and sort of rediculously simple, actually :D
- Short answer? You don't need to bind them together at all, you can just delete the png in the background and save (select "plain svg" from the drop-down menu though, not inkscape svg!).
- Long answer? Groups are very helpful in vectors with numerous paths and shapes. You can "bind" several paths together so they move in a group, or so you can hide/show/change colours/etc. with all of the paths at once.
- To bind paths together, you can select some paths or all paths in the image and press Ctrl+G (I believe it's "Group Objects" under the "Objects" menu at the top? I can't remember). If you have several groups you can also group groups together... it's very useful for keeping small groups of paths together and then keeping the larger groups together afterwards. You can also group all text in one group and all lines in another, and so forth - makes editing a good deal easier.
So you can choose whether to be anal-retentive like me and group everything within an inch of the poor paths' lives, or you can just leave all the paths alone and save the .svg for uploading! It's your choice really. Good luck with the final touch-ups and I'm looking forward to seeing the result - feel free to drop by again if I didn't make sense or if you have more questions :) -- Editor at Large • talk 01:18, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Good to hear! I've deleted the images you listed so now you're all done :D
- Also, a side note - to make it easier for people to find the images, just use
[[Image:imagenamehere.svg]]
to link to them directly. Saves some searching and such. - Good luck with future vectorizations, I hope you enjoy the process - I'm sure you'll be a pro in no time! -- Editor at Large • talk 17:34, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
File:Methidathion.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Spiperon. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Spiperon~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
