Hello there![edit]
Thanks for adding moth images! Please note that you must specify the licence, otherwise they will be deleted and that would be a shame of these great pictures! If you need any help please let me know on my talk page, either here or on wikipedia. Ruigeroeland (talk) 13:49, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Ugh! I am so frustrated with this whole Wiki thing! I keep getting messages saying I need to add a license to images I've uploaded, and although I don't consider myself to be a moron I have looked everywhere and can not figure out how to fix this problem. At this point I am about ready to just give up and allow my images to be removed from the site. I don't even care what license is used for them ... I thought I was choosing to put them in the public domain when I uploaded them. Is there an example of a properly configured image upload that you can point me to so I can see what needs to be done? Sorry to be such a pain, but this thing is driving me crazy. Doctorkilmer (talk)
- Hi Doctorkilmer. If you are the copyright holder of these photographs (you created them or someone transferred legal copyright of them to you) and wish to place them in the public domain, just add the text PD-self to the images, as you correctly did at File:Malacosoma_americanummale.jpg. You can also do this via the upload form (select "entirely my own work", then under the Licensing dropdown, select "Public domain"). Please let me know at User talk:Dcoetzee if you have any questions. The warnings about categorizing your images can be ignored, if you wish - others can handle this for you at a later time. Thank you for the fast reply! You say File:Malacosoma_americanummale.jpg is correct, and yet I just received a message which said the licensing info is not correct for that file (and several others). This is the text of the message I received: "There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you." I'm very very confused. Doctorkilmer (talk)
- Hi Doctorkilmer. You received that message on 25 May - the license information was not added until later (28 May). The messages you just received today regarded uploading other files (please use unique names for new images), and adding categories to images (which is optional). Check the date at the end of each warning carefully. I understand why this may have been confusing, and I hope this helps to clear things up! Dcoetzee (talk) 15:06, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Please do not upload over other images[edit]
Hi, I noticed you uploaded File:Catocala ilia.jpg and File:Acronicta lobeliae.jpg over existing images which were different. This would replace all uses of the existing images with your images. Please do not do this in the future. Your images are useful, but they should be uploaded under different names and full license and source information should be provided. Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:38, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
