Out of scope?

Hello Jeff, could you take a look at these filses? They seem out of scope to me. Thanks :-) Lotje (talk) 16:11, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

@Lotje (talk page stalker) blocked and nuked, this was a sockpuppet. Best, —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 17:58, 7 May 2023 (UTC)

Picture of Acintya

Hi Jeff G., I would like to ask you the question that I put on the World Imaging talk page as I wonder you may be the one who manage it. If not, I'm sure you will certainly have good advices. I am working for a research institute on Southeast Asia (https://www.irasec.com/) and I would like to know if there is any possibility to use the picture Acintya_Bali.jpg (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Acintya_Bali.jpg) for the cover of a book about Kebalian/balinese identity that will be published by NUS Press ? Kind regards Bertrand.bayet (talk) 04:12, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

@Bertrand.bayet: Hi, and welcome. I have just been helping to curate that talk page. You may wait for a reply there (not likely after 12 years of inactivity) or comply with either license offered on File:Acintya Bali.jpg per COM:REUSE. The user is not accepting email messages.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:40, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Portrait of Gladstone

Hello Jeff G., this portrait of William Ewart Gladstone was taken in 1861. Flickr says it's copyrighted, but if it's that old it should be public domain. There's a low quality photo here. What do you think? -Artanisen (talk) 11:03, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

@Artanisen: You may overwrite File:William Gladstone by Mayall, 1861.jpg with a higher quality version from that source in the original 1252 × 2048 size, as long as you have also "cropped, removed minor artifacts" and "adjusted contrast". Otherwise, you may upload with a new filename. Pinging @Scewing as original uploader.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 03:53, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, I've uploaded it as a separate image. -Artanisen (talk) 17:18, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
Hello, I noticed you restored the low quality retouched image in articles and claimed it's "sharper". I think this version is a lot better quality. -Artanisen (talk) 12:25, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: Thumbnailed, the jpg looks sharper. Which part of "Any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744) or jaggy when scaled up" in this edit did you not understand? Phabricator is not letting me have access to that task right now due to 'Unhandled Exception ("RuntimeException")' and 'Invalid argument supplied for foreach()', but see these links.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:31, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
PNG is better imo. Adobe says: "JPEGs use a lossy compression process — meaning some data from the image is permanently deleted when it’s made smaller. This could compromise the quality of your file in the long term because each time you edit and save it, you lose more data." vs PNG: "In contrast, PNG files benefit from lossless compression. This means no data is lost when the image is compressed — the quality stays the same no matter how many times you edit and save the file. The image won’t become blurry or distorted." -Artanisen (talk) 12:36, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: Here on WMF projects, jpg thumbnails are sharpened, png thumbnails are not. I can see the difference empirically at Commons:Graphic Lab/Photography workshop/Archive/2018#Margaret Thatcher, can you? See also the following gallery with standard 85px thumbnails.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 03:10, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading a JPG version. The Thatcher example looks nearly identical imo. JPG and PNG images could both be sharpened. -Artanisen (talk) 03:24, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: You're welcome. The Mediawiki developers chose long ago not to sharpen png image thumnails so that maps and diagrams would thumbnail better. Would you be ok with use of File:William Ewart Gladstone CDV 1861 for infobox.jpg on WMF projects instead of the other two photos?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 09:50, 4 May 2023 (UTC)
@Jeff G., sure if you think that's better then you can use it. -Artanisen (talk) 15:16, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Artanisen: ✓ Done, thanks.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:27, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Your notification messages

Hello, I would like to ask you if your account is connected to some automated bot-messager, or you have written any of those messages to me in matter of multiple issues. In the first one I've requested users with higher rights to implement correct category of Commons of deceased users to one of the profiles here, that wasn't a message of meaning to requesting any of autopatrolling rights. In the other one you've written some kind of message to me about copyright status where you mentioned some deletion rights, while you have some time ago written in one of the discussions concerning that certain files are hoaxes, while they have source provided. Afterwards you haven't participated in any of these multiple discussions there. In these discussion the claims of these files were stated as sufficent and then supplemented with additional, not neccessary sourcing of individual files when requested by one Commons administrator participating in the discussion. Regarding this issue of nominations of certain files by two users here, any of my files do not have missing copyright information and all are properly licensed, as was shown in multiple cases mentioned in those discussions. Because after you participated in that discussion, as you may know, another user notificated for deletion some more files over this dispute. Most of these files was also part of English Wikipedia dicussion at WikiProject Politics/Political parties Netherlands which was orginally closed in December 2022 and any of those claims wasn't been shown by experienced users. I would like to emphasize other uploaded flags and other similar files created by users themselves thru vector graphics editors while including original sourcing files, was proven as fine by previous several wide discussions at Commons. Thank you. ThecentreCZ (talk) 16:07, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@ThecentreCZ: No, my account is not connected to some automated bot-messager, but I did use the User Messages gadget to post Template:Fcs in this edit. You are uploading unsourced flags in violation of COM:EVID policy, and you must stop that, and document all the sources of all your previous uploads.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:11, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
No I don't. This was debated as sufficent previously, all my files are sourced through files and completed as a derivate. All flags are also used, which is another rule always proven. This was already mentioned in the discussion and agreed on multiple administrators on Commons in the past. Thank you ThecentreCZ (talk) 15:58, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Warning

Hi, I ask for deletion of my file because I made an error with uploading file which can not be copyrighted correctly (has picture). This one is my mistake and than I run into a problem to made a correct deletion request. This is not intentional and please explain me why I got Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks? I never did anything to violate any rules. If you have a time correct my mistakes or tell me what to do and I will --László (talk) 02:50, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

@Laslovarga: Hi again. You used {{Delete}} in this edit, rather than {{Delete2}}. I fixed that page for you. File:2007 Garavi Sokak ticket Laslovarga.jpg now has two {{Delete}} tags, rather than one, but I am not sure which one you want to stay. It could have zero if you had used a speedy delete tag per COM:CSD#G7. Please read the Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:24, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi, thank you for understanding. For me it is ok whatever is right, it is ok if I delete any of those two deletion request? I did remove one of them. Please check and let me know if is something wrong again, if it is ok than thank you again for help and I will start to be more diligent. --László (talk) 12:35, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
@Laslovarga: Nothing is wrong now, but we have to wait for an Admin to review Commons:Deletion requests/File:2007 Garavi Sokak ticket Laslovarga.jpg. Per COM:DR, that could take up to seven months.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:55, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
File:Jean-Louis Huhta.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Out of scope?

Hello Jeff, would you take a look at these contributions? Thank you so much for your time. Lotje (talk) 11:24, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Also these seem to be out of scope. :-) Lotje (talk) 11:52, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Out of scope?

Hello Jeff, imo this looks like self promotion. Can you take a closer look? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 11:24, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
