Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Paul Desmond's Jewish roots[edit]

Alto saxophonist Paul Desmond's father was from a Czech-Jewish family. His cousin Fred Barton, as well as famous attorney Randy Schoenberg, helped to establish this. It is reflected both in his Geni profile, as well as in the English-language Wikipedia entry.

I don't know why you raise this here and not in the talk page of the relevant Hebrew Wikipedia article, but note (a) Geni.com is not considered a reliable source. see here. (b) the English Wikipedia page says that members of his family could prove Jewish decent, but that his mother was catholic. (c) regardless of whether he has Jewish roots or not, this information is not relevant to the article's intro. At most, it's relevant to the biography chapter, and I think it's not relevant there either. Politheory1983 (talk) 03:35, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I raise it here because I have a limited command of the language and notice you undid an anonymous edit I made to that effect. Plenty of figures of Jewish paternal ancestry are listed in the Hebrew Wikipedia as being "of Jewish descent" rather than Jewish (respecting halachic definitions), and this information is presented at the top of each article in the intro section. I could list names, but I'm not sure it would be a good idea to send someone so committed to erasing this information on a quest to do more damage.
Plenty of other Hebrew Wikipedians seem to think that partial Jewish ancestry is important to highlight, even if the person isn't a member of the tribe. I don't know why you have such an issue with letting people know that the guy who wrote the last real jazz hit had Jewish ancestry. Is he tainted somehow?
