Warning sign
This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:International Men's Day Symbol.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

Same applies to File:International Men's Day (free-use).JPG as well. Thanks. -Andrew c (talk) 13:52, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you added a permission declaration to the images. Unfortunately, since this was published first outside of Wikipedia, without such a notice, you are still going to have to e-mail OTRS so that your identity/permission can be confirmed. Alternatively, you can add a public domain notice to your website, and cut out the OTRS middle man. This way, we can verify, from the source, that the content is indeed licensed freely. Sorry if this is a headache. We really do appreciate you donating content to us. But because anyone can upload anything, we take copyright seriously, and try to respect the works of others. Thanks for helping clear up this matter. -Andrew c (talk) 19:30, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have contacted OTRS and supplied them my permission. Positive male role models (talk) 03:32, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have taken off the speedy deletion template, and replaced it with OTRS pending (and the agent will remove that and add the ticket # once your ticket has been processed). Thanks a bunch. I have one remaining minor issue. The photo of the guys with kids on their shoulders appears to be stock photography. Is this an image you took yourself? Something you contracted out, but own the full rights to, or is it stock photography that you bought for your specific use? Basically, what is the origin of that photo, and who owns the copyright. If it is stock photography (which is pretty much certain) then those images have to be deleted, because you don't own the rights to redistribute the image under a free license. Thanks!-Andrew c (talk) 23:54, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and deleted the two images that used stock photography. We can easily restore the files if there is evidence these images are in fact free, but as it stands, there is much more compelling evidence that you don't have the right to release that image under the terms of a free license. I'd be glad to discuss this further if you have issue with my action. Thanks. -Andrew c (talk) 16:38, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Andrew
I will get back to you re the 2 photostock images which I paid for use. I will have to check the conditions of that use. I do have Spanish version IMD logo without picture if there is a problem, but will come back to that later.
But firstly, I have already sent permission for the following image: File:International Men's Day symbol.JPG .
Yet the following message now appears there:
"An email has been received at OTRS concerning this file, and can be read as ticket 2010022710041589 by users with an OTRS account. However, the message was not sufficient to confirm permission for this file. This may, among other reasons, be because there was no explicit release under a free license, or the email address that the permission came from is not associated with the location where the content was originally published."
I did indeed send the original permission from an email account not associated with the International Men's Day website where the image appears. Therefore I have just sent the permission again today to permissions-commons[..]wikimedia.org from the administrator email account of the relevant site: contact[..]international-mens-day.com
Please contact me on this address contact[..]international-mens-day.com if you need more information, and I will be happy to provide it. Further, if you would prefer the image released under a different licence, please advise your preferences.

PS. I note in passing that the IMD logo of the Moldova IMD website, which is personally labled and widely promoted as "The Adam Badge" by it's creator Adam Alexandru has been added to the Commons. Is this kind of personalized logo-making permissable for Wikipedia Commons? Positive male role models (talk) 06:46, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Positive male role models!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
