Categories[edit]

You have created a significant number of categories, all (or perhaps nearly all, I didn't look at every one) incorrectly. Please read Commons:Categories before creating any more categories, especially Commons:Categories#Creating a new category. If there are things you don't understand please feel free to ask questions. I realize that your intentions are good, but you are creating a lot of chaotic loose ends and a lot of cleanup work for other people. If you are going to keep creating categories, you need to learn to do it correctly. - Jmabel ! talk 00:48, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You write, "FEEL FREE TO USE IMAGE BUT NOT FOR MONETARY GAIN." The prohibition on commercial use contradicts the {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} license.

Commons does not accept files that may not be commercially reused. If your intent on certain files is to prohibit commercial use, please do not upload those files to Commons (and certainly don't offer, here or elsewhere, an irrevocable license that specifically allows commercial use!). - Jmabel ! talk 02:08, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Canadian_Army_Nursing_Service has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Copyrights[edit]

Sorry to be hitting your page with so many things, but as I go through trying to clean up categories I'm finding other issues.

Please don't put {{Own work}} on photos that are not your own work (as you did at File:Jane (Jennie) Roberts.jpg and File:Matilda Ethel GREEN.jpg, among others. Attribute source accurately, say what you can about the date; if the photographer is unknown, use {{Unknown photographer}}. Also, in turn: you can't offer a license to use a photo where you don't own the copyright. Rather than issue a CC license, you need to work out a valid rationale as to why the image is in the public domain, which I did for these two photos.

Again, I can see that your intentions are good and you are uploading good photos, but I've now spent the last 2-1/2 hours working chronologically backward cleaning up after you, and in that time I'm only back to 7 December 2022. Like you, I'm here on a strictly volunteer basis. It's pretty important that if you want to keep uploading photos and creating categories here you work out how to do these things correctly, or at least a lot more closely to correctly. - Jmabel ! talk 03:10, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
