Thank you that yuo helped me--Sanandros 18:40, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

No problem. --Tomia 19:22, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Image:Phyllophaga spPCCP20040419-4076A2.jpg

Thanks for adding the license on Image:Phyllophaga spPCCP20040419-4076A2.jpg. The license menu is there when I upload. I normally copy and paste a template, which includes the licensing section, instead of using the menu. I simply missed it on that image. --Cotinis 14:43, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

No problem. --Tomia 15:36, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, I see what you mean--although I am unsure how you could put a photo on a website without making it available for download. My feeling is that the commons is not a download site, rather the images stored here are used to illustrate the various wikimedia projects, which seems to usage be within the terms on the website. The tv and print restrictions just require attribution, which is OK in the commons. I will put a note on the village pump to see what others think. JeremyA 00:13, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes that license is not very clear, its good to have second, or third opinion. --Tomia 16:01, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I've made that photograph! From my movie. I've shot it and i've brought it to my pc. Then i've uploaded it to commons. That's not a screenshot taken from internet. it's one of my photograph, so i can leave it under my personal copyright.

--El Tarantiniese 06:45, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I noticed that you often help newbies, so may be you'll find this page interesting. It also helps to find copyvio when incorrect license tags used. --EugeneZelenko 14:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, i'll check that list time to time. --Tomia 15:23, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Categories

Thank you for help. I read something about using categories for photos, but I was not very sure about how to use correct tags, so I used none. Now it's a bit clearer to me, so I've added categories, for example in this image: . Bye Luccaro 16:10, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes categories like that help to find images, good work. --Tomia 16:15, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, the categories are generated automatically by commonsense. The nowiki tag is a good idea, I'll implement it. --Magnus Manske 20:11, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Mio Caro Luchino

Poistit parin postersin kuvan. Kyseessa on artikkelin Ossessione kuvitus. Toinen poistamsi on samaa alkuperää ja englanninkielisen artikkelien en:Rocco e i suoi fratelli kuvitusta. Vai onko jokin muut kuin commons englantilaisen Wikipiedian kuvatellennin? --Alexius Manfelt 04:50, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Jokin elokuvayhtiö on tuon posterin tehnyt ja omistaa siis kaikki oikeudet siihen, yleensä he eivät julkaise töitään vapaalla lisenssillä, joten en: wikissä käytetään tuota fairuse lisenssiä jotta kuva voidaan laittaa artikkelin yhteyteen. --Tomia 17:15, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

How to delete unused categories in commons

Hi,

according to your hint I modified most of my contributions (pictures) and added catogories to them. Unfortunately I made some mistakes leading to undesired, empty categories: Photo of technical items - Correct is Photos of technical items.

How to delete something like that?

cu, --Borowski 21:48, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Good work with categories. I added speedydelete tag to that category, admin will delete it later. --Tomia 15:25, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Dear Tomia

Dear Tomia, I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but I haven't logged in to Commons in a month, so I could not contact you righty away. You left a note on my talk page stating that an image I had uploaded had been tagged (and was ultimately deleted) as copvio. I must say I am rather surprised, as I specifically quoted (and linked to) the official website where that image is sourced, as well as its copyright information. AFAIK, these terms are perfectly compatible with Commons material. If you have some time, I would really like to hear if I'm mistaking. Warm regards, Phaedriel 23:55, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

They copyright terms states that images can't be sold and no modifications are allowed. Both are against commons policy, which states that commericial use must be allowed and derivative work must be alloved. See Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses. I think you could still upload those imges in local wiki. --Tomia 16:17, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

BHTec2

You have deleted a public image that I have put in the commons. The image is public, so I dont know if it is copyrighted so so. -- Andrevruas 22:34, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

I have marked Image:Bhtec2.jpg as copyright violation and operator has deleted it, see log. As you can see from source http://www.ufmg.br/online/arquivos/002386.shtml there isn't any kind of free license, so image was against commons policy. --Tomia 14:44, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Hallo Tomia! I hanted the picture from the suomi-wiki: [1] If you would like to delete it, it should be deleted there. Best wishes from Germany Claus Olsen

no source??

I've seen that you put a "no source"-tag here and I really don't understand why. I put it away by now, but i wait for an answer. Bye. --Bouncey2k 21:57, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

"Photo taken from Flickr" does not qualify for source to me. Why not put url to that image if its really from Flickr? Also GPL usually is wrong licence, now we can't verify that. ...Actually i found that picture, and it seems to be copyvio: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pragdave/174964206/in/set-72157594177368505/ "© All rights reserved", not GPL. Maybe i didn't read whole description in first time. --Tomia 22:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

"Itä-Suomen läänin vaakuna muodostuu Karjalan ja Savon maakunnanvaakunoista siten, että halkoisen kilven oikeanpuoleissa kentässä on Karjalan vaakuna ja vasemmanpuoleisessa kentässä on Savon vaakuna." Tuossa vaakunassa on Karjalan vaakuna vasemmalla ja Savo oikealla! --Hautala 14:01, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Mietin tuota pitkään itsekin, lääninhallituksen sivulla kuva on noin päin, kumpihan on väärin, kuva vai selitys? --Tomia 15:06, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
--Tomia 17:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Aha. Taas oppii uutta. --Hautala 10:14, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi tomia, sorry for making so many mistakes. I was the author of this image indeed. COuld please you be so kind to restore it? Then I could add any kind of information. Can you make a new version of this that will tag as speedy? Your own monobook.js appears to have some useful features - a diff for the existing version of Quick-delete will probably be enough to work from. Thanks, Alphax (talk) 07:16, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Welcome log active again

Hi, on User:Orgullobot/Welcome log you are listed as a helper. Orgullobot hasn't been active for a while and SieBot has taken over the welcoming a few days ago. There is fresh output again. I thought you might be interested in that info. I do hope on your continued participation in checking newbie edits. Cheers! Siebrand 09:17, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

(sorry if my words are short or queer, I'm not much familiar with wikipedia writing.) "Leapsecond.ut1-utc.svg" that you posted has a red line of "predicted" values, but its inversing behaviour after 2007 is very queer, considering its nature and shape. I checked the file "finals.all" you might have referred, and guess it might be errors in converting process of numbers (lines after 12484th[2007-03-07], the format is cahnged), and the minus symbols were dropped. How do you think? I'll be very thankful if you correct the picture, in the case my suspicion was right. (T. Kato from Japan) 210.255.66.29 13:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes the format have changed and gnuplot missed that minus character. I fixed that in new version. --Tomia 18:52, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm greatly helped by this image! --210.255.66.29 04:27, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Call to arms

Hi Tomia. I write to you and all other users listed on the Welcome log helpers list, except for EugeneZelenko this Call to arms. The reason for it is that I have seen very little activity on the project by you. Because of this we have most probably failed to check the contributions of thousands of new users and have not been able to inform them of the practices on Wikimedia Commons in a timely fashion, causing more work for us and the contributor later in the process.

I would like to urge you to make a habit of checking at least 10 or so new user's contributions from the Commons:Welcome log each day you are active here. We welcome about 200 new users with contributions each day and we currently have 19 users on the helpers list. You can find links to some helpful scripts on the welcome log page, that are likely to make your life a lot easier. If there are no users to be checked that have been welcomed today, please attend to a previous log. Thank you for your renewed attention. Cheers! Siebrand 12:20, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Finnish road signs

What is a font for finnish road signs? --Ostikhin 09:01, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

In page http://alk.tiehallinto.fi/www2/liikennemerkit/index.htm says that tiehallinto has own dedicated font for roadsigns, i think it's not available. --Tomia 18:15, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Uudet liikennemerkit

Hei! Olet ilmeisesti lisännyt valtaosan/kaikki Commonsissa olevat suomalaiset liikennemerkit. – Apalsola 22:46, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

– Apalsola tc 17:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Hei! Puuttuvat liikennemerkit on nyt lisätty Commonsiin. --Apalsola tc 18:10, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Image:Cerkva Svaliava.jpg, Image:Beregvar3.jpg, Image:Schoenborn wappen.jpg

These images are taken from http://www.castles.com.ua and i have an email with the author's permission to place images on wikimedia commons with the hyperlink to http://www.castles.com.ua. I can forward that email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org as you requested but it is in ukrainian language. Is that ok? Thank you. (Jancsi03 17:13, 7 August 2007 (UTC))

DEAR TOMIA! YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! PLEASE SUGGEST HOW CAN I PREVENT MY IMAGES FROM BEING DELETED FROM WIKIMEDIA COMMONS? I HAVE THE AUTHOR'S PERMISSION AND I SENT IT TO permissions-commons@wikimedia.org BUT THE IMAGES THAT YOU MARKED (Cerkva Svaliava.jpg, Image:Beregvar3.jpg, Image:Schoenborn wappen.jpg) WERE STILL DELETED. WHAT KIND OF PROOF DO YOU NEED? HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO CONTACT THE AUTHOR TO ASK FOR PERMISSION? WHY DELETE APPROVED IMAGES? THANKS FOR EXPLANATION. --Jancsi03 09:32, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Regarding image Alyxhdr.jpg

Hello.

My issue is regarding the image you recently deleted that I was hosting in claims that it is a copyright violation. I work for the company that fathers the copyright to the image and it is not a violation. If you would like written proof, I may write you an exclusive licensed .PDF document by the company itself for the image.

Thank you,

MrBosnia 00:50, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

That image was from Half Life? I guess you need to written permission from Valve to licence that image with free licence.. If you have, just send it to OTRS system. Then you can put ticket id to image. --Tomia 20:46, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Remember the part above when I said work for the company and the copyright is mine? (I'm a marketing executive)

I'll write you an open copyright license for the picture and send it. MrBosnia 01:22, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi Tomia,

I'm not sure that your opinion that the telefunken logo is a copyright violoation is correct. Please note: I did not ADD a new Telefunken logo, I only converted the EXISTING Telefunken Logo from .jpeg to .svg. The jpeg Telefunken logo stayed in the english Telefunken article long ago and noone deleted it. Fabian

English wiki allows fair use images, which are not allowd on commons. See Commons:Licensing. You could upload that image to en-wiki. --Tomia 20:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, -I didn't know that. Regards, Fabian

Fixed (?)

Now should be fixed. But I'm not sure to 100% (I've added a \n btw). Bye, thanks for the suggestion! --Filnik 13:27, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes it seems to be fixed now, good job. --Tomia 14:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi,

You just wrote a copyright violation for that image, which is a logo of a French public institution (i'm a part of that institution). What do I have to provide you so that you accept the file? Could it be accepted on en-Wiki or should I anyway provide a copyright permission?

Thanks, Meuniea 16:56, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

You write to permission field "fair use" when uploading, fair use images are not allowed in commons. If you are sure it is free to use even commercially, you could remove {{Copyvio}}. Even better is someone from institute sends mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org describing copyright status, as described in page OTRS. --Tomia 17:31, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

I changed the source for Image:Logo_IM.jpg in this way: by Incidents Mémorables|source:http://didascalie.net/tiki-index.php?page=presseFL but it seems to not work... What am I supposed to do ? Can you please verify it ? Thanks --Kccc 13:44, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I fixed description by adding {{Information}}, now it shows source ok.--Tomia 15:29, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
I saw your modification, thanks a lot: it's very kind of you --Kccc 16:58, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for that great drawing! I was waiting for something like that! -- Dr. Schorsch 08:13, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Actually i just vectorized already drawn image. --Tomia 22:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Image:Four pulleys.svg

Sorry if this is wrong, it's been five years since I've taken physics...

In the image there are two "states": when the weight is down and when it's 10cm up. We see the weight in both states, as well as the hook on the other end of the rope/cable. However, in all figures with more than one pulley, I think that at least one pulley should also move and have another "state". For example, in figure 2 I expect the lower pulley to go up 5cm.

Moving pulleys or not, I think it's a very good figure.
