Hello Tryphon/Archive/2008!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 10:23, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Fixed. Tryphon (talk) 14:35, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Mr & Mrs Brown

Please forgive me if I'm doing this in the wrong place I'm new. I noted your request for deletion of my painting. You made a valid point and it is good that people are checking that images are the property of the uploader. But how do I prove that I am the creator and copyright owner of the work?

Many Thanks

Vincent Brown

Richard Tisei

Hi, thanks for fixing my photo, it looks great. Per you instructions I also changed the description of the photo.

I don't mean to sound stupid but almost everything related to posting a photo on this site is way over my head. I don't have the time or expertise to make sure that everything is according to policy. I just wanted to put a photo with the bio that currently exists for me. The photo is mine and is not copyrighted and was taken for the expressed purpose of using it as my official photo.

Someone can just hit the links to my official state website to verify that the photo is of me (Richard R. Tisei)

If you think that it will be deleted because there is not enough info let me know but this is the best I can do at the moment

Again Thank you for your help

Hello again. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. I am going to work on the bio page now. I really like this site but hope that I never have to post a photo again! Thanks again.

Richard Tisei

Explanation

Hi, could you please explain this ? --Cradel (talk) 22:55, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

re: Invalid file Image:Szogfelezotetel.svg and OTRS

invalid file: Oh, thank you :) I couldn't figure out, why not appear the picture. I didn't correctly imported it with Inkscape. I try again now.

OTRS: These are 2 years old uploads, I don't know where are the original emails. :(

--FBöbe (talk) 21:03, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

No problem, but try uploading the PNG alone, unless you have a very good reason to have a bitmap in SVG.
For the OTRS, you don't need the original emails if you have still some way of contacting the authors: they can grant permission now. I see that both pictures are used on various projects, so it would be a shame if they get deleted. I will put {{No permission}} on them, and I'm sure the admins will figure something out. --Tryphon (talk) 21:17, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, it seems Commons is unable to generate a thumbnail for this picture, even though it is valid SVG (and Firefox displays it properly). If you notice the same behavior, you should consider uploading another version of this file (maybe without <marker>, see the limitations of the Commons SVG engine. --Tryphon (talk) 03:07, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. I had the same problem with others SVG. I'll see what I can do to fix that. --Coyau (talk) 03:34, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
It works. --Coyau (talk) 03:43, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

[1]: cc-by-sa for the specific picture is requested and given in the comments to the blog post. Please let me know if this is not enough according to the current Commons requirements. Otherwise you could remove the copyvio template. Thank you. --Спас Колев (talk) 11:39, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

I see. In that case, could you ask the author to send written permission to OTRS, using this email template (I assume you're the one who requested permissions in the blog comments). If you do so, you can replace {{Copyvio}} with {{OTRS pending}}. Thanks. --Tryphon (talk) 11:46, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Of course I could. But I don't think it's reasonable (and polite) to ask twice for the same thing (a written confirmation). I would rather ask for more opinions at the Village pump. --Спас Колев (talk) 12:06, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
In that case, at least make it clear on the image page that you asked for permission, and that it can be found in the blog comments. That way, anyone can easily verify the copyright status of this image. Thanks, and sorry for the inconvenience. --Tryphon (talk) 12:10, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
No problem at all. :) The problem (validity of "in-comment" permissions) is general so it makes sense to discuss it. --Спас Колев (talk) 12:20, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Your recent note on my talk page.

Image:1_red_die.svg is PD-self. If you are performing bot edits, you may wish to adjust your settings and note that PD-self is a tag people use when they create the content. There's no requirement that they specify it's themselves when they use PD-self, because that tag in and of itself says that they did it. Please don't tag images that are labeled as "PD-self" as unsourced, because it's simply not so. Bastique demandez 21:33, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

You are absolutely right, I don't know what got into me. I'm really sorry for the inconvenience. --Tryphon (talk) 22:31, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Merci. --Tryphon (talk) 13:12, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, yes you are right about the picture from Bosnia and Herzegovina, I was actually not aware of the laws there and the situation with the FOP copyright. Can you please advise me how I can delete it from Wikicommons, as I'm new here and need some help? Thanks and greetings.. Nenad80 (talk) 13:00, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

You don't have to do anything (in fact, it is deleted already), and you can't do anything: only admins have the right to delete files. If you want something to be deleted (and have a good reason for that) you must make a deletion request. As for the copyright issue, it is actually very tricky to know what's authorized and what's not, and the FOP status in Bosnia and Herzegovina was only recently clarified on Commons. I hope this incident won't discourage you from contributing to Commons. Best wishes. --Tryphon (talk) 13:48, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

You are right. I've restored the image and undid the CommonsDelinker action on en.wikipedia and pt.wikipedia. Sorry for any inconvenience. Lugusto 22:10, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Deletion request

I can't speak english (I'm brazilian) very well, so I'm sorry.

A long time ago (2/2007) I posted this image (File:Cuidado.jpg) in commons. It's a warning plate in a supermarket, and now I think this image is not useful for wikimedia. Then, I want to put it in the deletion request but i don't know how and I don't know write a reason for the deleting (in english). So, I'm here to ask you to do it (if you think that the image should be deleted). It's all. Thanks. --Jesielt (talk) 12:14, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it should be deleted, as long as the license information is correct. It seems to me that this image is in scope. Let me know if you need help with something else, but since you're Brazilian, you may prefer to ask someone who speaks Portuguese. --Tryphon (talk) 12:27, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Usines

Espero tu oportuna respuesta. Gracias!--Davitu35 (talk) 17:28, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

First of all, it might be easier for you to ask someone how speaks Spanish. I can only give you general advice, as I don't understand Spanish very well.
Did you read the documentation that User:Martin H. recommended? I think you should be able to choose the right license, and most importantly understand better which images are free and which aren't, after reading it. --Tryphon (talk) 17:45, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for helping myself--Davitu35 (talk) 13:17, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
