Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Luxembourg (and maybe until further notice Morocco) should be highlighted in Yellow, instead of grey.
Would love to edit myself, but sadly I can't upload a new version of the file.

Olympic mascots

I've updated Commons:Deletion requests/File:Olympic mascots.jpg following a response I've had from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport that I've forwarded to OTRS that I think decisively proves my iniital claims about the image. —Tom Morris (talk) 09:58, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that image is a capture from a television screen. I've created it using Sony Vegas, I didn't copy it from the EBU site.Purice21 (talk) 12:32, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm very sorry but I didn't know that a capture from a television screen represents a copyright violation. Next year I'll go to the ESC with my camera. Can I be blocked from Wiki next time ? Purice21 (talk) 19:21, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

EYD/EYM maps

Hello Wesley Mouse

Would you make all the maps of Eurovision Young Dancers and Eurovision Young Musicians please? If you will make the maps, i'll gif you the colors of the countries (green/red/yellow).

There's quite a lot of maps to be created, it could take weeks for me to get them all done, as I also have a busy real-life schedule too. But you don't need to give me the colours to be used, as they need to be the same colours as used on all Eurovision-related maps, which are green/red/yellow/purple. I have checked a prior discussion at Project Eurovision over on English Wikipedia (for which I am a member of), and it was decided that no maps should be used on EYD/EYM articles, purely for the fact that the maps would be highly complexed. The maps used only show the Europe region, and countries such as Australia, Canada, South Africa, and USA have competed in EYD/EYM, thus making it difficult to create such maps. So unfortunately I won't be able to make maps for these articles. Wesley Mᴥuse 14:21, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Türkvizyon 2013 map

Hello, Wesley. I noticed that you are able to work with maps in svg format. Can you create a similar map with 20 countries / regions of the Türkvizyon 2013? The list of countries you can see in the "Debuting countries". Alex Great ^talk 13:56, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I don't think a map for Turkvizyon will be as easy as one may think. The maps only highlight country borders. Turkvizyon is for countries and regional areas. How would we highlight Russia as well as the Turkish speaking regions within Russia itself? Same goes for Crimean region, and Xinjiang, China. It will be a lot more difficult, and something that I will need to request more advanced work from a fellow Wikipedian. Wesley Mᴥuse 04:33, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

I do not know why you have such a problem like this. Since all regions have their official borders. For example, you can specify this map: File:Map-TurkicLanguages.png, but it is not in the svg-format. Or this map: File:World98+.svg. Or I can suffer myself, and finaly creates such a map. Firstly, I never said I had a problem with creating such a map. I stated that it would not be as easy to just create one until such technical difficulties were addressed. I did also point out that I would seek more expert advice from a fellow Wikipedian who is more technically-minded in regards to these kind of maps. The first map you mentioned is in png format, and as Turkvizyon falls under the scope of WikiProject Eurovision, they prefer to use svg format, as this makes it easier to update the map as and when a country has selected a participant. Ideally we need to be maintaining consistency in regards to map styling. Using File:World98+.svg would not be following the style used in other articles such as File:ESC 2014 Map.svg, which if you notice does not have a blue ocean background. Also if you could please have some patience, I have been in contact with User:AxG over at English Wikipedia discussing this matter, so that we have a map following the same style as the participation maps used on Eurovision, Junior Eurovision, and ABU Festival articles. There is no rush to have this map produced immediately, and I have asked AxG if he would be kind enough as to crop en:File:BlankMap-World-Subdivisions.svg so that we have only the Eurasia region, and then we will be able to see smaller countries such as Cyprus, etc. AxG also makes these maps interactive, so that if a viewer places their mouse cursor over a particular region, that it will inform them the name of that region/country. Turkvizyon all regions map

It's a bit too bright on the eye. Started to give me a headache within seconds of viewing it. Not sure if it would get used on English Wikipedia, purely because we'd need to have a source to verify all those regions are correct and are allowed to participate if they chose to do so. That is the vital point on Wikipedia, everything needs to be sourced for verifying factual evidence. Wesley Mᴥuse 07:15, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

That looks a lot better. I'm not sure if it is a medical issue that I have acquired in my age, but lately very bright colours like those used on the original version have started to give me severe headaches. Wes Mᴥuse 01:06, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

All right, I'm just trying to comply with existing similar map with Eurovision, where Lebanon was marked by the same pink. Lebanon small size, so the eye is not evident. And here the whole Russia and some other countries are painted in this color. Really negatively affects the eyes. As for my previous version, I believe it is necessary to take note of the user AxG ready for some border regions (not to bother himself with this problem of possible debutant).
