Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:45, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

Missing finding place of the individual
[edit]Dear "Happy1892",
i am certainly no entomologist at all, thus wouldn't be able to identify this species of Stag beetle on reason of the image. However, wiki-users as well as reviewers liked to know finding places of organisms in general, to know if IDs may be right, or to get to know about new distributions, not known before. Could you please let us know where you have found this female stag beetle? So far it is in eastern North America it might be Lucanus capreolus, otherwise (rather) not. Please do add the exact location plus the date. Thanks in advance!
Kind regards Erwin Stamnaria0568 (talk) 10:47, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
== Helloǃ Yes, sorry. It is from North Carolina. Wake Forest, NC to be specific. We do have L. capreolus here, but the L. capreolus have orange on their legs (femur) underneath, which L. elaphus does not. I have noticed also that the L. elaphus are more common here than L. capreolus from searching for these beetles at lights during night and going through rotting logs for larvae. L. elaphus larvae are actually common in pine logs here. (probably the common Pinus taeda and maybe Pinus echinata, too because they are common here also.).
