Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:43, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

The original images used for the montages that you uploaded, are likely copyrighted. You have to provide sources for every single image used in the montages. --Túrelio (talk) 18:48, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Dear Túrelio: You think "likely copyrighted"??? No. It's all my work. If you can find any copyright for any of the images used in the montages, please let me know, as they do not exist. Thank you. --Hatufim-org (talk) 19:30, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- File:Child-plane.jpg is not your work, contrary to your claim. Even your latest upload, File:Il-usa11.jpg, has a watermark of a copyrighted website. And the icon of Christ and the painting of the rebbe in File:Chabad-church1.jpg were both painted by you? You don't believe that yourself. By the way, it is your task as the uploader to provide evidence that your uploads are free of copyright. --Túrelio (talk) 19:33, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
How exactly do you want me to provide such EVIDENCE? --Hatufim-org (talk) 19:43, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- As it is rather clear that most or all images, that you used to compose these montages, were not created by yourself, you have to find the original sources with valid information about the author and the copyright status. For a simple example, see File:Katze-Maus-Retter.jpg or File:Neal Stephenson and Baroque Cycle characters.jpg. --Túrelio (talk) 19:49, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
A table was added explaining the montages in the 3 images above. Is this good enough? --Hatufim-org (talk) 21:33, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- For the two Chabad/church images, the actual sources of the images are missing (except for the Chabad flag); you must have taken them from somewhere, likely already in digital form. For the third image, the problem is not only the components of the composition, but mainly that you took it from a website with a clear copyright note. You will need to get a written permission from them that entitles you to upload the image under a free license to Commons. (For the permission, see Commons:Email templates) If they won't give that, the image has to be deleted from Commons, but you might upload it locally to :en under the fair-use clause. --Túrelio (talk) 21:49, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Please explain how do I "upload it locally to :en under the fair-use clause" --Hatufim-org (talk) 22:05, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- w:Wikipedia:Non-free content, and with that I'm going to bed. --Túrelio (talk) 22:10, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
OK, too much time wasted. If the images don't comply with your standards, just go ahead and delete them. --Hatufim-org (talk) 22:25, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
