Hallo Hedwig. --Holger.Ellgaard (talk) 09:09, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Holger Ellgaard, please read the closure statements better. I did not say anything about Panoramafreiheit, the reason to decline the DR was clearly stated to be Commons:Non-copyright_restrictions#"House_rules". Jcb (talk) 10:24, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
--Holger.Ellgaard (talk) 10:45, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi! Can you please change this message to be "Учествовање", not "Учествуј". This is because of translations consistency. Also, it seems like interface translating to Serbian didn't completed, so how can I contribute? Thanks in advance. Acamicamacaraca (talk) 20:56, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Benjamin Saunders photo

Hello there! The photo you just flagged that I uploaded of Professor Saunders was actually provided to me by his wife for inclusion of the Wiki article I am writing. It is ok for use within Wikipedia and for creative commons use. Please do not delete it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianHuberd (talk • contribs) 02:38, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

@BrianHuberd: His wife is the copyrightholder. She has to release the photograph and not only for Wikipedia. Commons allows free media only. Have a look at com:OTRS. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:41, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
@Hedwig in Washington: Thank you! I will find one of my photos or have her release her photo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianHuberd (talk • contribs) 02:50, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Wrong namination

Hi, dear user, you naminated some picture for deletation with this reason: "doesn't seem to be own work ..." I want to notify you that I am the owner and creator these photos. Take them by my phone or automatic camera, or create by photoshop (for maps only), so please remove these nomination. I create these pictures and photos for Wikipedia fa articles, and these deletation is bad effect on the articles, I am an eleminator user in wikifa and I know the copyright low. Thanks for your cooperation. Mahdi Mousavi (talk) 05:58, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Photo suggested for deletion

Dear Hedwig,

You just marked a photo of mine for deletion -- which actually happened before for the same photo -- if you can please walk me through what I need to do in order to confirm, sign, prove I took it, release it -- I'm new to the process and would really, really appreciate it. Embarrassing to say, but I'm not even sure how to sign this message (and I didn't sign the one on the talk page for the same reason... Sorry.

@DanielTahar: most people sing like this: --~~~~
You stated taken by family member -> this family member has to release the rights. We have this system they can use: Com:OTRS. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 00:53, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
@Hedwig in Washington: Sorry -- I myself am the family member, that's what I mean... Didn't want to say "I'm his son" as a reason, but yes -- and again, I'm sorry for this but believe me, I'll be a good contributor once I figure this out (I added several photos of medication, for example, which I don't think were ever up for deletion.)

So, my name is Daniel, I am Yoram Taharlev's son (this is quite embarrassing), I took the photo using my Canon EOS 5D / 200mm lens. Should I open a ticket using the link you said? Will it just ask me to provide that information? Thanks again very, very much.

-- Daniel — Preceding unsigned comment added by DanielTahar (talk • contribs) 01:05, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Nothing to be embarrassed about. I read a little about your dad, your are mentioned as well :). I believe you took the picture and that this is just a misunderstanding, bad choice of words. I'll fix it asap. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:15, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
Can't think you enough! I assume your Hebrew isn't fluent enough for it, but if you'd like a copy of his latest book about [Avot|Pirkei Avot] let me know. Thanks again for the lesson!

-- Daniel DanielTahar (talk) 03:02, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

@DanielTahar: Thank you so much for your kind offer. You assume right, my Hebrew is only as good as what the Google Translator can work out. :-)) Well, I'd like to read the book, maybe one day there will be a translation I can understand. If you like, maybe you can donate a copy to your favorite library? Best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 03:10, 16 November 2018 (UTC)
@Hedwig in Washington: Sorry for the late reply -- i'm still trying to figure out how the notofications show up. Already donated to several libraries, including the one in New York; if you are in an area which has a library with a Jewish / Hebrew section, would be happy to send one over. Thanks!

Labia commissures

Hi Hedwig in Washington, what must I do concretely for this image to be accepted here? The subject of commissures is not mentioned in Commons, hence this import. --Machopeur (talk) 13:29, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

See Com:scope for the project scope. We already have a wide variety of similar images and don't accept any that are not completely different and/or are of exceptional quality. Adding a description / legend doesn't count towards difference or excellence. Please do not recreate deleted content. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 13:39, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
With all the respect I have for you, I do not share your explanation. The motive of "similarity" does not work because this file was specially intended for commissures (which is a theme virtually absent from Commons). Of course, I have checked and no other file explicitly talks about it. This is because I just created the articles on Wikipedia in French (and I could not find a suitable image) that I decided to import myself this file (which is anyway a derivative of an already existing file). There is no desire on my part to harm and I see no objective reason not to re-import this file. But if it can go through a deletion procedure (to debate a minimum), I am not opposed. --Machopeur (talk) 13:59, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
Not absent, just not categorized AFAIK. Which file did you base your upload on? Derivatives need some special TLC. Have a look at Com:DW. For file already on Commons see Template:Derived from and Template:Derivative versions. C(_) --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 14:09, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
That one. It may be my main mistake not to have added the correct license. --Machopeur (talk) 14:14, 4 December 2018 (UTC)
@Machopeur: Gotcha. File restored and templates set. Sorry for being a pest, we get so many nude pictures every single day and I fired without due diligence. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 04:01, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
No problem Hedwig in Washington, thanks and keep it up --Machopeur (talk) 11:14, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello Hedwig in Washington,

1) The links should point to commons not to local files I believe (this prevented me from seeing the relevant file page of the deleted file). Could you please report this bug to the script developers if you are using a script?

2) Thought I uploaded using Flickr2Commons. I can't view the history of the deleted file to check whether this was the case. , How come it was scaled down?

--Gryllida (chat) 02:26, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

aloha! the file is on commons, not wikinews. nothing is scaled down: 5,184 × 3,456 pixels. We had two uploads of the same flickr-file on commons, one got deleted and the links fixed. you need to be admin in order to see deleted files/histories. best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 02:37, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

deleted a research pdf

is this site for research?

I uploaded a pdf of industry search sites that are useful to the OEM Manufacturing industry, and you deleted it!

I encourage you to search for OEM products using Google, they are a paid advertiser who will list anything slightly relevant, which makes it useless to engineers.

Can you reconsider? Actually try searching for OEM Manufacturers... you won't have any search results worth your time if you are a $100k+ engineer. I thought this site was for research but then again schools discredit Wikipedia for any citations to wikipedia! How can your site exist to only reference other pages?

Where are the real references? I have a 12 year education and I'm sure I am more qualified to judge a resource.

You didn't even have time to look at the first entry before deleting it!

Your decision comes off as severely foolish and I'd like you to prove me wrong, give me evidence that you know what you were doing when you deleted that resource.

Can you reconsider? I know you didn't look at it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sknate (talk • contribs) 07:22, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

I do have even more than 12 years of Education. Makes me more qualified, ey?
Evidence: Com:Scope. Commons is not the Yellow Pages.
I have over 123,000 edits, you one. Makes me more qualified, ey? What does that tell you?
In addition: Commons in not Wikipedia. Try your luck over there if you like, not here. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:32, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

@Buch-t: Danke fuer Deine Info! Wirklich fuer den Sponsor eine Kategorie anlegen? Da kommen nicht viele Bilder zusammen. C(_) --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 13:55, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
--Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 14:47, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
--Buch-t (talk) 14:55, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of a photo

Hello there,

I recently deleted a photo that I uploaded 2 years ago in wikipedia. The file name is <Sergey Srebrev.jpg>. It opens on the following link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sergey_Srebrev.jpg. It shows that the page has been deleted which is the desired effect. But when you type the name Sergey Srebrev in google search engine the photo appears despite it being deleted. Is there a way to permanently deleted so it doesn't show on any search engines?

Thanks,

Best regards, Stoyan Memtsov — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stoyanmemtsov (talk • contribs) 10:08, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

@Stoyanmemtsov: Sorry, there's no easy way. You have to ask every website owner to delete  your pic. If the photo still appears on Commons you have to purge your browser cache.
Sorry Stoyan, I wish I had an easy way.--Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 16:12, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

I thought the photo did not have a copyright, thank you for removing it. I know the photographer, how do I get copyright permission to post the photo? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhafler (talk • contribs) 23:12, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

No problem, things happen. Have the photographer send permission. See OTRS for more info. Cheers! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 23:15, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi @Hedwig in Washington: You did a mass link update for me. see original request here https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Bots/Work_requests&oldid=prev&diff=330976360 But one of the links got the letter "l" added to the end in the process. Instead of https://sos.oregon.gov/archives/records/county/Pages/scenic-images.aspx the link that was put out there was https://sos.oregon.gov/archives/records/county/Pages/scenic-images.aspxl so they are all broken. See example in this entry: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Clackamas_River_(Clackamas_County,_Oregon_scenic_images)_(clacD0046).jpg Could you please run a scrip to fix that? Many thanks. --EmmaSno (talk)EmmaSno

Hi Hedwig in Washington!

The above file according to Google image search is apparently a match for File:Lubekandwandarockymarcianostatue.jpg, see deletion nomination page, I believe the image on Wikiwand.com was File:Lubekandwandarockymarcianostatue.jpg, which you deleted for copyright violation here on commons. I have contacted the Winery about the statue image on their website. If you've already contacted them as an OTRS volunteer you may already know if someone at the Winery holds the Rocky Statue photograph copyright. I'd like to upload their Rocky Statue image under USA Fair use so I've contacted them for permission. Comments, info and help much appreciated! --Marshallsumter (talk) 18:31, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

@Marshallsumter: I am not an OTRS volunteer anymore, can't help you there.
Copyright:
a) the copyright of the photograph is unclear -> can't be on Commons.
b) no FOP for 3D artwork in the USA -> can't be on Commons.
You have to ask the guy who made the statue AND the photographer for permission. The permission on the winery doesn't matter much, they probably didn't get permission either. Fair use on EN-wiki should be possible, I think. But that's not my call, as EN-wiki decides strange things sometimes. Cheers! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:20, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Hallo Hedwing in Washington,

Hello. First of all, deleting a file without giving me time to explain is a serious violation of WP:GF, and is simply rude towards other editors. Second, would you please be so kind to restore the file, as far as I am the only copyright holder of my grandfather's photos? :) Thank you.--George, 07:09, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

You recieved a warning from Patrick Rogel: [1]. Assuming you are User Melberg? Copyvios are to be deleted on sight, same rule applies to the precautionary principle. So not violation of WP:GF but correct execution of Commons' policies.
b) I won't restore the file without proper OTRS process. According to our policies, (most) media previously posted on the web needs to be processed through OTRS. Have a peek at OTRS#Licensing images: when do I contact OTRS?. Anyway, having a photograph and owning the copyright are two different animals. Usually the photographer owns the copyright, not the subject on the photograph. If you inherited the photograph from your grandfather, you inherited the physical photograph only, not necessarily the copyright. IF the photograph is PD, you can't license it CC 4.0. Several issues you need to work on.
Sorry, copyright is a pain in the butt. C(_) --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:25, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
