Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? I won't do that again, but can you delete the Barn Dance file, because that short is not Public Domain yet, and protect it so it won't be created until January 1, 2025, because the short was created in 1929, not 1928 or earlier, and according to this source: the short's copyright was renewed on December 10, 1956 Hjajajsbbxb12 (talk) 20:07, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

The short is copyrighted until 2025, but the poster is essentially the same as the 1928 one for Gallopin Gaucho, so there's no new copyright for it. Bedivere (talk) 01:38, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

As the blocking admin, I am not taking this unblock request. However, I would like to point out this discussion they brought to my talk page on the English Wikipedia. I also think that asking for an unblock or to shorten to a fixed term (proposed by the blocked user themselves) is not the greatest thing to do, by making void promises as they have also previously felt "sorry" for uploading non-free files on Commons, only to return to do it again, just what they promised not to do again, and exactly what they've posted on the unblock request itself. "Para muestra un botón", as we say in Spanish for an obvious example: see previous threads and my own talk page here and on the English Wikipedia, where they have resorted too to their disruptive behavior. • I fail to see how this block is justified. Hjajajsbbxb12 has eight deleted files, and of those files five were deleted as "exact or scaled-down duplicate" (File:Download (8).svg, File:Disney XD 2009 logo.svg, File:Disnet XD 2009 logo.svg, File:The Home Depot - 1989.svg, File:Netflix logo (3).svg) and were indeed {{PD-textlogo}} otherwise. An indefinite block for "Uploading unfree files after warnings: + disruptive behaviour amounting to vandalism" for only three copyvios (that, unlike many copyvios, were at least sourced and attributed rather than purporting a bogus self claim) is inappropriate--as was, frankly, the first block (a week for two copyvios?) Where are the diffs for "disruptive behaviour amounting to vandalism"? @Bedivere: how do you reconcile this block with COM:BP ("As blocks are preventative rather than punitive, use a block duration that is proportional to the time likely needed for the user to familiarize themselves with relevant policies and adjust their behaviour") and COM:AGF? At most this is a username issue ("Usernames like 'Dasdpoieqdmcoiaq' that are random characters, [...], or confusing for other reasons can be blocked.") Эlcobbola _talk 14:50, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

  @Elcobbola More than the copyright violations issue (which they violated immediately after their first block) I proceeded to block indefinitely because I have followed the user here and on the English Wikipedia and found their behavior to be disruptive. I would agree a shorter block could be better but the unblocking admin or whoever reduces the block time should follow closely this user's behavior. Bedivere (talk) 18:04, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

We do not sanction users on the Commons for actions on sister projects. How do you reconcile this indefinite block (for a mere three copyvios) with COM:BP and COM:AGF?   11 March 2024 Tags for speedy deletion a perfectly PD poster as "fair use" reiterating to death that the short is not in the public domain, but it is the poster that they are requesting deletion of, not the short, which has a different copyright. The paradox is that they later uploaded a whole video from YouTube that is evidently copyrighted because "I thought the copyright holder allows anybody to use it". When you say we do not sanction users on the Commons for actions on sister projects, I agree with that, but it's been this user who's brought their problems from here over there. Afterwards they uploaded an evidently copyrighted logo as they claimed "This logo is in the Public Domain, because it is too simple to be a copyrighted work, despite the hand in the logo". They were given a last warning but they continued to upload logos which weren't theirs but they claimed as their own. Not only that, they knowingly duplicated SVG files, making small changes in their code (not visible) in order to upload a version of their "own". That was what led to their first block.   I can explain It, the difference between copyrighted and non-copyrighted files is that non-copyrighted files are also known as Public Domain material, the work is in the Public Domain either because it's copyright expired, because it was published in the United States before 1929, or the author died before 1954, the work is ineligible for copyright, the work's copyright wasn't renewed within the first 28 years, if the work is from before 1964, or it didn't have a copyright notice before 1978, copyrighted works are fair use, and earliest date a work currently can be copyrighted in the United States is on January 1, 1929, Copyrighted/Fair Use material is not allowed on commons, and this transition of copyrighted works into the Public Domain happens each year on January 1st, January 1st is also known as Public Domain Day, and I will only upload Public Domain material, when I'm unblocked.
