Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 23:18, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Sorry

Apologies for the revert - My goal was to actually thank you however the moment I clicked "Thank" the page then jumped so I ended up reverting instead so my apologies for that, Anyway thanks for categorising the image! :), –Davey2010Talk 21:56, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Davey. No big deal. I just noticed these old obsolete categories for uploads by a sock puppeteer, and nobody's used them in years. As is, they simply create more work for people who like to sort images with no categories. Thanks for your note. Daphne Lantier 22:02, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Regarding la last warning on a photo

Hi Daphne,

I have received the last warning regaring a photo with Ioana And Stella from 2013 I have been trying to upload on Ioana Ciolacu page. This has been going for a yar already. I have asked for permission from Peek&Cloppenburg (the photos owners) and they sent me the photos that we are allowed to use. Uploaded it, got deleted again. Wrote again to Peek& Cloppenburg to send the permission directly to Wiki's permission email. They asked them to approve a licence that would allow for us to upload one of the photos, but could not agree with the fact that the photo could be used by anyone, including for commercial rights. To quote the licence: 'This license allows other people to use and redistribute your work as long as they attribute it to you and redistribute any derivative works under the same terms. We can not accept media with a license that restricts commercial use or the creation of derivative works, since one of the main goals of Wikimedia Commons is to store media that can be used by anyone and for any purpose.' So basically we're just trying to introduce a photo of Ioana and Stella that pictures best the Ioana Ciolacu page, without giving the right for everybody to use it in a commercial way, as people involved in this picture do not wish for their image to be used in this way.

Is there any way we can still upload this picture just on Ioana Ciolacu page, without giving those rights to anybody. This is our last persuasion regarding this picture.

Thank you, --Chocomoto (talk) 13:17, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, but commercial and derivative use is required by Commons licensing policy. Daphne Lantier 20:28, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Illustrating Women, Filling the Gaps

Hi, I saw that you removed yourself from this project. I hope there is no issue with the project itself... Regards, Yann (talk) 11:30, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

@Yann: I'm sure it's a good project, but I didn't feel that my contributions, such as the female novelists categories, were appreciated in my conversation with you. It sounded like you were saying I'd done things clumsily and wrong and that Wikidata was going to do it all anyways so why bother. I don't stay where I'm not welcome or needed.

I've become an image reviewer now anyways, so I want to have the time to focus on that so I can do a good job with it. Other than that, I enjoy sorting through uncategorized images and doing deletion requests and speedy deletion requests. We each have to find out where we fit in on a project like Commons, and there's only so much we can focus on before we spread ourselves to thin. Perhaps I'll rejoin your project in the future. I of course want to promote other women, but only in ways I feel comfortable. Daphne Lantier 03:40, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Daphne,
I am very sorry that you feel unwelcome. It was not my intention to discourage you. It is just that these categories are not my priority, and I have tried to explain why. And everyone has her-his own priorities. I hope you will contribue one way or another, as you feel it. Sorry again to have convey such bad feelings. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:49, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

License review

Hello Daphne,

welcome among the group of license reviewers! I just added you to the user group as your request gained good support. Glad that you volunteered for this job! Kind regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 20:46, 4 March 2017 (UTC)

Congrats on your promotion! I recommend you to install User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js to your common.js, to license review easier. Poké95 01:29, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

Edits reverted

I noticed that you reverted my edits can u give me the reason for it?--Tiven2240 (talk) 06:31, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

You marked them for license review and no source. That was incorrect. I've tagged them as needing permission, which is the correct action since an author is named but we have no proof of permission. Daphne Lantier 06:33, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
I had made it with the intension that the author may update information bytheway thanks for all u've done --Tiven2240 (talk) 06:37, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
In the case of these paintings, we need OTRS permission from Michele Martin Taylor. Daphne Lantier 06:39, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for dealing with the License review backlog, It amazes me that no one other than you seems to bother with it,

Would be nice if the bot did it all then it would save backlogs ,
But anyway thanks again for dealing with it all,
Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 22:05, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

  • @Davey2010: Thank you! The admin part is a little premature, but maybe it's a sign of gook luck to come. As far as the reviews are concerned, it is a pretty lonely area. Maybe the large backlog has chased reviewers away. A large number of them are several-year old uploads by , asked about at User talk:Fæ#Old uploads of yours up for review. I certainly don't know how to deal with those. Then there's about 1500 Tasnim News images. I can do a lot of those, as they're really simple, but I don't care for wrestling, martial arts and other combative sports, so there are some that I'll leave for other reviewers. There are some around I'm sure, though one of the active reviewers, INeverCry, doesn't seem to have done much for a few weeks now. I see on his or her talk page that they've done 1 million edits, which is amazing, so maybe they decided to take a break. Hopefully not a long one. Daphne Lantier 22:41, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
Oh crap sorry I thought you were already an admin, Well if it's any consolation I'd 100% support in your RFA if you went for it,
Oh wait so it's never been clear then ?, I assumed the backlog had built up over a few weeks or something,
Exactly we all deserve a break now & again, Anyway thanks again for dealing with the backlog - Every little helps :), –Davey2010Talk 23:04, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Daphne Lantier, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and its subpages), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care. Have a look at the list of Gadgets (on the bottom there are the ones specifically for admins – however, for example the UserMessages are very helpful too).

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.libera.chat. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators: #wikimedia-commons-admin webchat.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading. You can find the admin backlog overview at COM:AB.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Reguyla

Understanding that you don't know the history, and not trying to go into it... just understand, he's a long term editor of various projects, who has made it quite obvious that he is technically capable of evading any block. He's not a vandal, he's a behavior problem. - Reventtalk 13:24, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Greetings

Greetings Daphne. I'm sorry we are meeting under these circumstances but I wanted you to know I harbor no I'll feelings towards you.

I am very angry about my unnecessary ban from the project by Michael forva discussion that was closed and after he attempted to intimidate me that has zero validity.

I also want to disagree with Revent that I am a behavioral problem. If an editor treats me with respect as you, Fae, Revent and others have done I respond the same way. When they harass, troll, bully, intimidate and make personal attacks towards me, such as those by Michael and others, especially hidden unser the guise of admin duties, I respond negatively. Frankly most editors do, thats not unique to me.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and say hi and I'm not upset with you at all for revoking my talk page access. I deserved it for my actions and it was going to happen at the close of the discussion anyway. Cheers and happy editing! Plus as everyone knows I can edit whenever I want anyway. Reguyla 2607:FB90:708D:1011:0:1B:77F4:6301

Hi Reguyla. My main interest is to see you regain editing privileges here at some point. I don't want to see you go past the point of no return and get banned or locked at Meta. I know that you wouldn't get so upset if you didn't truly care about Commons and the other projects you've edited. You can edit via IP, but it's so much better to be able to openly edit with your own account. I really hope you'll be able to get back your ability to do so. Good luck, and take care. Daphne Lantier 18:44, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi, have you checked the deleted file history on enWP, before you decided this DR? Can any of the missing information be found in the enWP-history? --h-stt !? 19:13, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

I'm not an admin at en.wiki, so I can't check the history there. You can ask an admin over there if you think it's worth your time. This is an older b&w image that is 41kb in size. The only info given upon upload here was that it was uploaded by Ozarkhighlands on en.wiki. No mention was made of a source and this is obviously not own work. Daphne Lantier 21:23, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
@H-stt: I asked an enwiki admin on IRC. The response was that there was 'nothing important' in the enwiki history. - Reventtalk

File deletion

I marked File:Jupiter rise b by Juno.jpg, uploaded in November, as a duplicate of File:PIA21108 Jupiterrise.jpg, uploaded in October, from which it was an improper upscale of, that added no quality differences. However, the latter, the one to be kept, was deleted instead of the former, which still remains. Can this be fixed, and the right file be deleted please? Thank you and clarification

Sorry I created a new section. I couldn't open the other one to edit die to being on mobile. I just want to clarify that I was editing constructively up to a few minutes prior to when Michael blocked me and I still would be. I didn't suddenly stop, I am being actively prevented due to an idiotic and unconstructive block. All the justification for the block is because I didn't just take a bad block without fighting it. Since I couldn't even get an unbiased discussion to unblock me and wasn't even allowed to defend myself, i have no intention of not editing nor lying down and going quietly. If my defiance leads to a ban then so be it but personally I think it would be a shame to lose a constructive editor over a bad block and an overzealous admin. The block was wrong and is nothing nore than a personal attack and intimidation directed towards me. If and when it gets lifted I'll simply go back to editing with my account. Till that time I'll just ignore it as the farce it is. Maybe some day some level headed admins will realize a bad block isn't worth the loss of a positive and high output editor. Cheers! I would like the files in this series to be deleted so that I may upload a better encode with a less insane (! 100mb/s) bitrate and in the webm format. I dislike how these came out; they are a poor example of my work, and I will be trying again. Thanks, FASTILY 01:39, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

Request

Hi I have a request. For the file File:Flag of the Lugansk People's Republic.svg, could you move the "19:56, 24 June 2014" edition to File:Variant Flag of the Lugansk People's Republic.svg. Also, for the file File:Flag of the Donetsk People's Republic.svg, could you move the "22:59, 11 April 2014", "20:45, 12 May 2014" and "16:19, 16 May 2014" editions to File:Flag of the Donetsk Republic (Organisation).svg ? Regards. --Panam2014 (talk) 10:57, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

@Panam2014: Your request calls for some relatively complex history merges, and the files are widely used. Any error during the merging could cause serious problems. I'm not experienced enough as an admin to attempt these merges. You can ask at COM:AN and see if a more experienced admin is willing to do them. Daphne Lantier 17:16, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi, Daphne -- question re Gina Smith (author) wikipedia page and my photo

Hi, there -- I admit I am new to Wikipedia editing so please forgive me!

I posted a picture I took of Gina Smith during her speech in Silicon Valley last month on her wikipedia entry.

It was taken down (by a bot, it says, then you?) because it violated copyright. However, I took that photo! My name is Ann Gustafson. I wasn't sure how to put in a photo credit. Is that what I did wrong?

The file *was* where I put it on Wikimedia commons, but your deletion seems to have removed it? Thank you for helping me get up to speed ...

Reguyla

@Revent, Nick, Yann, and Fae: Greetings Daphne, As you correctly stated in a previous comment I really believe in this project and generally enjoy contributing to it. I have done a lot of work to improve it in a relatively short amount of time. Make no mistake however that it is NOT my lack of desire to edit positively, I was doing that for months prior to and until moments before the ridiculous block that was placed against me. I am being prevented by force from contributing positively in order to intimidate me. There is a huge difference.

Although my first impulse is to defy MichaelMaggs attempts to bully and intimidate me and continue contributing in any way possible, including creating new accounts if necessary I simply do not want to use my time helping a community or project that doesn't value my time or efforts. Unfortunately, that is clearly the case here with the current willingness of you and others to punish the victim and reward the bully. Regardless of an extreme minority of people on the project bullying me to get me out, the more I think about it, the more I get the attitude that if the other admins such as yourself on Commons are willing to let one of their own bully out an editor and demonize them for their dedication to the project, then this is not a community, it is a cliché and not a project I want to participate in anyway. I find this current situation unfortunate and it all could have been avoided if there were mechanisms or oversight in place on Commons to prevent admins from bullying and intimidating editors. Although it will do nothing to help me, I sincerely hope that you and others can change Commons policy to avoid more editors being bullied out of Commons in the future by requiring admins to discuss indefinite blocks of positive long term editors and not prevent them from requesting unblock on their talk pages for at least 24 hours after block is placed. Because the treatment I have received by Michael and others here is disgusting and an embarrassment to the entire community including the good administrators such as yourself and the others I included in the notification above (I know Fae isn't an admin, but he should be and no those are not the only editors I think are good here. I am limited on the number I can ping is all). Cheers! Reguyla Defianta (talk) 17:12, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Reguyla, I won't say much, what I will say is please respect the block and work towards a legitimate, proper unblock. I've locked down this account for your own good, please do not make the situation so bad that nobody is prepared to support an unblock. You talk about users being bullied out of the project, but what about the harassment you inflicted on users who have done nothing wrong to you on Commons, you damage the project when you ping and attack users who you believe have slighted you on Meta, English Wikipedia or elsewhere. Nick (talk) 17:47, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
I want to clarify something Nick. I wasn't harassing anyone from other projects as you and others have mistakenly stated. I asked 2 Commons editors to stop harassing and making personal attacks against me and using other projects to do it. That was them that did that, I simply asked them to stop. Aside from that, the discussion I was blocked for was over and archived. Michael had no valid reason to block me then and there is no valid reason to continue it now and certainly not an indefinite block with talk page access revoked. That was only done as an intimidation tactic and to bully me (not by you Daphne, originally). I was editing positively for months and he messed that up with one rash action. So yeah I am extremely upset about that as anyone would be.
If you sincerely want me to work towards a solution, legitimately, then we should have a meaningful collaborative discussion with all parties. Not a discussion like the one that was held where one side can say whatever they want no matter how true it is and the other has no voice at all and has to sit back and watch as they are attacked without any chance to comment or rebut statements. So if you are sincere, and I hope you are, then someone should consider that or at least reducing the block to a finite limit like 3 or 6 months or we can discuss it somewhere like an IRC channel. Because as it stands, indefinite = forever and the only reason I am not editing positively is because of the block. If I was unblocked immediately I would drop the issues I have with Michaels actions immediately.
As for making the situation so bad that nobody is prepared to support an unblock. Clearly no one wants to unblock me anyway. There was no reason for the block in the first place and you and others had the ability and opportunity if not the desire to undo it. You decided not to do that.
Had Michael not bullied me in the first place and respected the fact that archiving the discussion signaled and end to it if not the 50 or so edits I did after that, I would not be commenting about him at all. That I am calling a spade a spade now is the direct result of his actions, not mine. I would be happily editing away as I was before had he not attempted to intimidate me. So don't blame me for calling attention to obviously problematic conduct by an inactive admin. Did you see me saying anything negative about him before he bullied me? No you didn't, because I had no reason too. If you have a problem with me calling him a bully for a block that was only to intimidate me and bully me and don't have a problem with other Commons editors making personal attacks and bullying me then that is a whole other problem. PS, for anyone reading this, there was apparently an offline discussion I was previously unaware of where multiple Commons admins and others agreed the block was problematic, but because I requested unblock using an IP due to my talk page being blocked, now they feel the block is ok. So apparently it is ok for a bad block to be placed but not ok for an editor to request unblock in the only method available. Reguyla 138.163.0.42 18:07, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Michael is not a bully and has not bullied you. This claim is toxic and is why you're still blocked. You know (or you should know) I have a zero tolerance approach for admin tool abuse - I supported (loudly) the removal of INeverCry's admin 'bit' back in January and today have supported de-sysop proceedings against Jcb. If Michael was bullying you, I would have dragged him to COM:AN/U and would have had the de-RfA written by now. I've not done that because he isn't bullying you, you caused trouble and were appropriately blocked. You need to accept the block was legitimate and appropriate, then we can move on. My original unblock brokering offer still stands, but as before, you need to (genuinely) accept your part in this shit show and not just blame everybody else. Nick (talk) 19:11, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
I understand and respect your opinion Nick, I really do, but I did not cause trouble as you put it and I have even agreed that a block would have been fine, but absolutely not an indefinite one with a revocation of talk page access without a community discussion first. That my friend is what makes it a bad block to me and the use of his authority and status on the project to manipulate the unblock request when he was involved in the block and demanding the terms of how it will be handled and discussed further reflect it. An indefinite block of a high output, long term editor in good standing (at least I assume I was in good standing given the editing rights I had at the time) should never be determined by one admin without discussion first and I doubt it would have been tolerated for any other editor here on this project except me.
I also know that multiple Commons admins felt it was a bad block as well. Maybe you were one of them, I'm not quite sure. Several people have told me recently that the block was being discussed offline and I was unaware. If that has suddenly changed and the block is now magically valid because I used an IP to request unblock due to my talk page being completely locked, then it is unfortunate.
If you do sincerely want to broker an unblock as you say you are then I am open to it, just let me know. In fact I have been asking for it. I know I had originally stated I wouldn't, but because people on IRC and email told me they appreciated my contributions and encouraged me to appeal so that I could continue, I did it anyway.
Don't think for a second that I would say anything against Michael if unblocked. My ire is strictly because I am unable to even edit to defend myself "legitimately" as you put it, let alone edit and improve the project. At least in the desysopping discussions of INeverCry and Jcb they were allowed to comment in their own defense, I can't even do that. I have absolutely no intention and never did of ever mentioning Michael, our interactions, history or even making any attempt whatsoever of interacting with him in the future. I would appreciate if he showed me the same courtesy but of course I cannot control that.
So if you are at all serious about unblocking me then let me know. We can discuss it on a better venue than here such as my talk page if you unblock me there or on IRC or some other venue. Please though, if you aren't serious don't just shine me on, just be honest and say that so I won't bother asking you at all and wasting both our time. 138.163.128.42 20:23, 29 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello Daphne, I saw you deleted the above image per the deletion discussion. I was not aware of the discussion at the time, but I believe the nomination was erroneous. The photo was taken from a British warship while the German fleet was steaming to Scapa Flow, where it was interned after the war. The Royal Navy had official photographers aboard some of their ships to document the event, see for instance this, this, this, etc. Can you restore the photo please? Thanks. When the file was restored, the original speedy tag wasn't removed. I mistakenly deleted the file as per that original tag, and I didn't notice that there was a talkpage. Please explain how I can submit my consent to use a photo

The photo was posted on Twitter and I got permission from the person via Twitter to use the photo. The conversation was posted publicly and not in direct messages. Please explain what I need to do to get my photos restored. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BAH Law (talk • contribs) 19:22, 2017 April 2‎ (UTC)

You have two options. You could post an undeletion request at COM:UDEL linking to the tweet that gives permission for use of the photo, or you could have the copyright holder follow the directions at OTRS. Daphne Lantier 19:26, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

Ok but my undeletion request got denied before anyone told me to post a link. Do I need to submit a new request? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BAH Law (talk • contribs) 19:28, 2017 April 2‎ (UTC)

Yes. In order for an undeletion request to be successful, information/links indicating a free license must be given. Daphne Lantier 21:32, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

File moving

Hello. You're doing a great job. Can I make a suggestion? When renaming newly uploaded files like this one, I open the move tab in a new window and de-select the option that says "Leave a redirect behind". By moving it with this method, it leaves a redlink and saves you having to delete the redirect page. Also, please note the amusing follow-up to that file move. :) Green Giant (talk) 04:16, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

@Green Giant: Thanks. I haven't gotten many complaints, so I guess I'm doing OK. I'll give the no redirect method a try. If anyone complains, I'll just blame it entirely on that experienced admin Green Giant. Daphne Lantier 04:44, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of own upload

Hi, you declined my deletion request as no valid reason, what is the proper method to delete my own uploaded image? Beevil (talk) 11:19, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

I now see that I could have used a speedy deletion request, somehow missed that when I first looked. However, when you declined the request it was more than 7 days old, at which point the instructions are to go through a normal deletion request. Do I then need to file another deletion request? Beevil (talk) 11:25, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
File:Cobra Gamma Counter.jpg is a high-quality image. I declined to delete it because it clearly meets the requirements of COM:EDUSE. Files may be eligible for speedy deletion, but that doesn't necessarily mean that deletion is definite. I'll usually do speedy deletions for personal images or low-quality images, but not for the good stuff. I hope you'll reconsider about wanting this deleted. Daphne Lantier 15:45, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
I'd rather not discuss the reasons for wanting it deleted publicly, but would have thought a user requested deletion of their own image wouldn't be too much to ask. Beevil (talk) 15:59, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
When an image is of high-quality like this, a good reason for deletion may very well be needed. Once you upload an image to Commons, the free license you give is irrevocable (see Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses). Just because an image is eligible for deletion technically, doesn't mean it has to or will be deleted. Daphne Lantier 16:20, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
If I can explain in a non-public way then I will. Either way this is a completely unnecessary position to take and has put me off from ever contributing my own images to commons again in the future, so thanks. Beevil (talk) 08:26, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
Furthermore, I understand that the free license is irrevocable, but that nor the page you have linked have any bearing on whether or not it can be deleted. You are causing me unnecessary distress and frustration by delaying a technically eligible deletion. I hope you can reconsider. Beevil (talk) 08:37, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
@Beevil: I've deleted it. I didn't mean to cause you any distress, and I'm sorry about that. I just like good photos of machinery like this and didn't want to see it go. I hope you'll keep contributing to Commons. Sorry again for the trouble, it's just that so many people upload junk that I hate to delete good stuff like your image! Deletion of own upload

what is the proper method to delete my own uploaded image? please read User:-revi/Tistory--고려 (talk) 09:39, 6 April 2017 (UTC)--

I review K-Pop images already. If you want to have an upload deleted, you can nominate it for speedy deletion if it's a week old or less or if it's a copyright violation. Otherwise you can file a regular deletion request. You could also post the file or files here if they're new, and I'll delete them in the morning. Daphne Lantier 09:57, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
That is not k-pop uploads but it still applies. Review the image source carefully, with the focus on left side of end of article. (Image in question is @ my talk page.) — regards, Revi 11:58, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
@-revi: You may want to contact the administrator who reviewed that file and who tagged it for speedy deletion. When I see images tagged for speedy deletion by experienced admins, I don't tend to do a lot of second-guessing. I tend to trust in their judgement. I can be more careful about this in future, but if a Tistory file is mistakenly tagged for speedy deletion when I'm not around, another mistaken deletion could happen. FOP nominations

Please add Category:Ukrainian FOP cases/pending to all DRs related to Ukranian FOP which are not closed and Category:Ukrainian FOP cases/deleted or Category:Ukrainian FOP cases/kept to requests which are closed. It is needed to make easy way to find photos which should be undeleted when copyright term will exceed or copyright laws will be changed.--Anatoliy (talk) 22:00, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

@Ahonc: I'll make sure to do so in the future, though I really don't look for FOP violations. The ones I tagged last night were a bit annoying because the Panoramio upload bot shouldn't have uploaded them in the first place. That bot uploads a lot of copyright violations and vacation pictures, and I mean A LOT! I came close to blocking it. Daphne Lantier 22:52, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Daphne - You have deleted from Commons a photo of the title page of Montesquieu, De l'esprit des loix, according to the bot that has consequently removed it from the The Spirit of the Laws. But the bot doesn't really explain your deletion. I can't think why, for a book published in 1748. Wikiain (talk) 05:03, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, Daphne. It's not above the TOO in Germany? The uploader appears to only write in German and only contribute to Wikipedia in German.   — Jeff G. ツ 21:11, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
I guess it could be considered above German TOO according to Commons:Threshold of originality#Germany, but the third logo included there is so simple I think whoever compiled that TOO entry was mistaken about including it. It's much much simpler than the first two, as is this ESF logo. Daphne Lantier 21:19, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

✓ Done Daphne Lantier 00:05, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

You have deleted a category while it was being moved (moving of categories last max 24h, so it is not good to delete such categories in progress)... The old category is a redirection only now and it should be empty => the files should be moved to new address. It can be fixed by removing the redirect -- but I don't know how it looked before movement => the history went to the new address.
In such cases it is better not to delete the category, but move it back => to the old address.
To fix this situation you can undelete this category (when you accept this movement) or undelete this category and move it back (when you don't accept this movement).
I can't do it by myself -- I'm not an admin here ;-) Greetings from Poland :-) Wieralee (talk) 14:06, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

@Wieralee: This was marked with {{bad name|SVG flags of municipalities of Antioquia Department}}. The directions for admins processing these {{Bad name}} categories is to add the appropriate move command to User:CommonsDelinker/commands, and then to delete the category. I simply followed this process. Daphne Lantier 17:30, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Oh... Let's start again. "The directions for admins processing these {{Bad name}} categories is to add the appropriate move command to User:CommonsDelinker/commands, and then to delete the category.. Moving files to a redirect is not an appropriate move command. They should be moved to an existing category.
You can re-make this category & everything will be all right.
I can't re-make this category by myself because I don't know its upper-category-tree. You have deleted it -- and only admins can see the proper containment of the original category :(
But I can ask another admin for help, of course... Wieralee (talk) 18:18, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi! Congrats for the adminship (and sorry if I'm late)!

I wanted to point out a good practice, that you may not know,as you're a young admin ;) For deletion requests like Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Tonino Sicoli it is nice to categorize it in category "Undelete in <year when the artwork becomes PD>", so to recover the files whenever it's possible. I've seen you work recently and I've added the undelete category to a few such as Commons:Deletion requests/File:P conspicillatus stamp.jpg but I also suggest you add the topic related deletion category, such as I try to do for my philatelic nominations Category:Philately related deletion requests which has a "deleted" or "kept" subcats. This is a screenshot from Facebook. As per Commons:Screenshots, Commons doesn't accept screenshots from sites with restricted licenses like Facebook. Daphne Lantier 04:15, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Would you be so kind as to explain me why less than an hour after being notified by user Hungarikusz Firkász in the middle of the night (2:33 local time as per Commons note) of the possible deletion of the file in the subject you proceeded to remove it from Commons without giving me the slightest chance to check the reasons of the deletion request or say a word?

I may be mistaken but till recently files that were suspect of copyright violation were marked as such, the uploader was notified, some time was given for discussion and, once the status was clear, a conclusion was reached about the file. Have we changed this way of working?

You request in your page friendliness and politeness. Is this your idea of politeness, deleting other user's uploads without a minimum note of warning less than an hour of their being notified?--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 07:06, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

The copyvio tag was this: {{copyvio|1=http://www.europeana.eu/portal/hu/record/2032009/Hungarian_20National_20Museum_data_hnm_hu_object_1384617.html?q=%22K%C3%A1rolyi+Mih%C3%A1ly%22 This picture's author is Révész Imre . He is dead in 1975. This picture is copy violation.}} Usually with speedy deletions, there's not much time for discussion. The biggest reason for this state of affairs is that we get a large influx of copyright violations (1000+ each day), making individual investigation unpractical. As regards politeness, I don't equate that with performing a task according to Commons policy, which is something I do many times each day (I usually delete several hundred files each day). I certainly didn't do anything with the intent of upsetting or disrespecting you in any way, and I'm sorry that's what ended up happening. The main problem is that we have too few administrators who're willing to work in the area of deletion. We have something like 10 or 15 active admins working on 1000+ copyright violations each day on average. If we had 50, then we could slow things down and still prevent backlogs. File:Luciano Perlo.jpg

Hello, I have noticed, that you have deleted this photo despite this discussion Commons:Deletion requests/File:Luciano Perlo.jpg. Are you sure that this photo is the same as the source ? Few months ago, I've verified again that the photo of commons doesn't exist on the net, so I'm surprised. Thanks for your contribution. Olivier LPB (talk) 08:05, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

The two images are identical. Daphne Lantier 08:12, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
There was two similar photos but not the same (same gesture, but not exactly the same point of vue). Olivier LPB (talk) 08:23, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
@Olivier LPB: The vantage point is identical. The web version is just cropped closer in on the Pope and the man. It's the exact same photo, but of course when you publish a photo with the Pope in it, you're going to crop in pretty tight on him and what he's doing. Daphne Lantier 17:22, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Appropriate licence for File:SFERA newspaper (1-September-1959).png

Dear Daphne, I hope this message finds you well. I need assistance with the licence that should be used for File:SFERA newspaper (1-September-1959).png which I published today. The newspaper from which I scanned the article is not published anymore, and I can't find anywhere on the net that anyone is holding the copyrights of the editions that were published in the 1950s. Thank you very much in advance. Sincerely --Factographer (talk) 14:24, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

I would suggest that you post this question at COM:VP/C. The people there are copyright specialists, and will be able to answer your question much faster than I can. Daphne Lantier 17:25, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

FOP in Czech Republic

Hi Daphne, Thanks for closing the DRs about 2D works in the Czech Republic. Jcb closed some DRs about the same issue as Delete. Should we restore them? I think we need to be consistent. See Commons:Deletion requests/File:353 01 Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic - panoramio (80).jpg, Commons:Deletion requests/File:353 01 Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic - panoramio (68).jpg, Commons:Deletion requests/File:353 01 Prameny, Czech Republic - panoramio (37).jpg, Regards, Yann (talk) 07:50, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

@Yann: Since Jcb has closed these requests with reasoned delete rationales, it would probably be better to take this to UDEL. Daphne Lantier 07:58, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Sure. Just wanted your opinion. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:11, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
The situation of the deleted pictures is different. I have clearly explaned in my closure statements why the specific files I deleted do not comply with the Czech FoP rules. Jcb (talk) 08:15, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
I don't see any difference. In all cases, these are similar boards. I have opened a discussion here: Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Boards in Czech Republic. Regards, Yann (talk) 18:03, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

File:BJP election symbol.svg.png

Hi Daphne Lantier. You deleted File:BJP election symbol.svg per Commons:Deletion requests/File:BJP election symbol.svg and I believe that File:BJP election symbol.svg.png is essentially the same file. I also don't think it's own work, but more likely it's just a mechanical reproduction of the party's symbol; so, if that symbol is protected by copyright, then this would be a copyright violation, wouldn't it? If by chance the image is fine, then perhaps it should be renamed to per COM:FR #6 because the name contains a double extension. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:22, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for checking on this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:26, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi there dear Daphne, Thank you very much for your help. The OTRS was able to receive my ticket and restore the image. I am really amazed by how much good work you all do in Wikimedia in order to help users like me. Kind regards, --DrIndia (talk) 08:01, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

But this file was deleted by Daphne Lantier. Could you tell me why you deleted this file? --Scanyaro (talk) 17:42, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

This was deleted as per Commons:Deletion requests/File:Tomoyasu Hotei cropped 1 Tomoyasu Hotei and Takashi Uesugi 20110219.jpg. If you want this undeleted, you'll have to post at COM:UDEL. Daphne Lantier 17:57, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
