Hi. Just passing by, could you tell me what is the purpose of the above template? Kind regards. Rehman 04:27, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure! The template was created so the specific instructions (deleting only the image, not the upload history) wouldn't have to be explained every time there is a non-free frame removal request at the en.wikipedia graphic lab. Here is an example: See image #4. Otherwise, the instructions on what to say when requesting a speedy deletion would be time-consuming and space-consuming. Does that help? – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 04:32, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply! Well, I don't think that is entirely right. Mainly because:
  • When UserA uploads an image with a good licence but with a watermark, then UserB overwrites the file with a copy of the same removing watermark. It is not a good practice to delete the older version by UserA, and keep the newer version by UserB, when there is really no harm is having the older file in history.
Of course, we could delete the older versions:
  • If both files are by the same user, and the user is aware of the impending deletion.
  • If the older version does/may cause trouble (copyright, etc)
For these reasons, we already have {{Split}}/COM:HMS, or simply a {{Db}} requesting deletion of older version. And maybe some other stuff here and there. Rehman 04:47, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But it's not for watermarked images. Only images with non-free frames, and those images have to be removed because the frames aren't free (and shouldn't be on Commons). Sorry to have confused you. : ) And yes, a {{Db}} request of older version is exactly what it is, but like i said, it's really time-consuming trying to explain why and how for every unfree frame removal request at the Graphic Lab. I'm not really seeing any problem here, though, unless Commons is more strict about templates than I'm used to. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 05:25, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
My bad, yes I see you mentioned unfree files only. Then it's perfectly fine :) Sorry for the trouble. Rehman 05:44, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No worries at all, I actually really appreciate that you contacted me about it : ) – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 06:00, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Harcourt photographs[edit]

Hello,

Please see my message to Materialscientist. As the alternate versions exist exist under a new name, there is no reason overwriting these files.

I will thus revoke your revocations.

Thanks, Jean-Fred (talk) 12:42, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching me. I saw your note and undid my {{Duplicate}} tags. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 12:47, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You marked this file as a duplicate.. I was wondering if you might want to upload it over the original seeing as it's a minor, lossless crop and a definite improvement –moogsi (blah) 00:07, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I appreciate the comment on it being an improvement; however, both images were nominated for FP at the English Wikipedia and the original version won out—though it looked like it was a close call. The crop cannot overwrite the original at this point. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 00:17, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've boldly removed the tag since the image is a crop, not a scaled-down version or a duplicate, and since both versions were discussed at English Wikipedia FPC it seems especially appropriate to keep both versions so that the discussion on the FPC page remains fully intact. If you feel this is in error please let me know. Thanks. --Pine 01:12, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I trust others' judgments far more than my own. I didn't see the point of keeping the crop at this rate, but you make a good point about the FPC. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 01:22, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nicola Peltz[edit]

Hi Keraunoscopia, You doing a great job in this picture, But you forgot something, a cropped the image, as I did in this version. But do not tire yourself, I've upload a cropped version, In the same colors that your upload. I added the image on Wikipedia. Cheers!. MyCanon () 04:11, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MyCanon, thanks! I actually don't like the crop, unfortunately, it misses too much of her shoulder and the frame looks too thin. Are you completely against the original composition? – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 04:41, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Sucre 01.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Sucre 01.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
