Licensing[edit]

Hi. Thanks for uploading the image of the Bluestar Citaro. Could you please add a license to it, otherwise it will be deleted soon by an administrator. Have a look at Commons:Copyright tags and for more detail Commons:Licensing if you want to know what to do. Adding something like pd-self to the image page would solve the problem. Hope that helps, Arriva436talk/contribs 20:27, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Iveco 59-12!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Just add "cc-by-3.0" to the image and it should solve the problem, and the image will be licensed in the same way as your other images. For some reason this part must have been missed off when it was originally uploaded. Otherwise it's likely the file will be deleted. Editor5807speak 09:50, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your images[edit]

Hi there! Just wanted to say thank you for some of the images you've been uploading recently! As you've probably noticed the Isle of Wight is quite well covered here on Commons but it's always great to have new people adding to the collection. I've made some small changes to the categories of some of your images but that's just so their more in-line with other similar images on Commons.

Basically, as far as bus shots go across the UK, we sort them into a few different categories, as you can probably see by the categories some of your images are now in. Don't worry if you don't fully understand this part (it took me a while!) other editors will always be happy to help. Also, any photo that's taken on the Isle of Wight tends to be added to a month category, for example Category:April 2011 on the Isle of Wight, which shows all the images taken from that month on the island.

You may also be interested in creating a user category. I would suggest something like Category:Images by Iveco 59-12. Just add, "<big>The following is a collection of images uploaded by Iveco 59-12</big> Iveco 59-12" to the page, click save and add that category to all your images as well. That way it will be easier to keep them all together and other editors can easily browse through your work.

As you can imagine, with a project scope as large as Commons, there's tonnes of stuff you can get photos of. We're currently working our way through this list to try and get decent coverage of all the Wightbus routes before they are withdrawn at the end of August this year. Some effort has also been put into photographing services such as public toilets and libraries that the Isle of Wight Council axed from the end of March. Anyway those are just a few of the urgent things that will obviously not be around for much longer, but feel free to get photos of anything you want.

Anyway, those are just a few ideas, and if you get stuck feel free to drop a note on my talk page and I'll get back to you. You've put up some great images so far, so I look forward to seeing more in the future! :) Editor5807speak 23:28, 24 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image names[edit]

Hi, as there your images, I wanted to check first with you if it would be ok to alter a few of your image names to basically make them more fitting with what we've already got on Commons? Basically the format used by most editors for buses is "File:Operator fleetnumber registration (with gap between 4th and 5th letter).JPG". For example an image of Southern Vectis Scania OmniCity 1111 would be "File:Southern Vectis 1111 HW58 ASX.JPG". Any images after that would then be numbered 2, 3 and so on. We also try to do this in chronological order, but with different uploaders this doesn't always work out!

As I've got a few images of Southern Vectis' Solos to put up, this would be what I would propose renaming your images to:

The advantage of moving them will be that under the category system, similar images are all listed together, and should make your images easier to find. I can do the same with your Bustival photos as well if that's alright, as I've also got some to upload as well. You may notice you don't have the option to move the files yourself, as you have to apply for the ability to do this and will get accepted after you've been active on Commons for a while. Thanks, Editor5807speak 20:16, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Needles Tour Leaflet.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Needles Tour Leaflet.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.
