Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Comment We can't see who is behind which keyboard. Two accounts with a similar name, same deleted upload indicate abuse of multiple accounts. I am sorry if I accused you wrongly. Wrongly Accused of Having Sock Puppet & Unfairly Blocked From Account[edit]

Hello,

I have been wrongly accused of having a sock puppet and unfairly blocked from my account by Hedwig in Washington. I posted an image that was taken down citing potential copyright violation. I subsequently provided consent by the photographer and the image was deleted again. My daughter, Nathalie Walton, who owns the copyright subsequently uploaded the image. It was again taken down and I was wrongly accused by Hedwig in Washington of using Nathalie as a sock puppet. Nathalie sent email correspondence to OTRS on November 15, 2016 attaching the legal contract establishing her ownership to the rights of the image (see below). As of 11/22/16, OTRS, Nathalie is awaiting reply. In the meantime, I am very frustrated that my rights have been violated by this administrator and I continue to be blocked. This is totally unfair and completely wrong. I would appreciate any assistance that may be provided to rectify this matter immediately. As background, this is a photo that was taken at my wedding by a photographer that I contracted. As a part of the contract I own the photos and I have reproduction rights to the photo. Please see the exact rights below:

brittrene photo does give up reproduction rights for couples/guest use. Clients are allowed to reproduce images on their own and publish (including Internet) but do not own rights to editorial publication without brittrene photo’s permission. If any of the images are published (on the web or any other media), proper photo credit such as “© Photo by BrittRenePhoto” is required.

I've attached the signed agreement for your reference. Please refer to term 4 in the attached agreement, if you have further questions.

I've attached the photo in the email, can you please reinstate the photo on the wikipedia page.

Would someone please assist me? I have been wrongly blocked from my account and described the circumstances on a prior talk page entry. It appears that someone reviewed the entry (last update on page cites November 23, 2016) but I have not received a response and continue to be blocked. I must say that this action feels like an abuse of editorial authority. Please help.

This was not merely "a second attempt to post the image because the contractual agreement is between Nathalie Walton and the photographer," your purport. This was an unambiguous abuse of multiple accounts to restore an image out-of-process--a process you knew or should have known to exist. (Prior to your 10. November 2016 block, the phrase "If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion" appeared twice on this page and once on Nathaliewalton's talkpage.) Commons templates do not distinguish between sockpuppetry and meatpupperty; it is a distinction without a difference, and you indeed acknowledge the latter. That appropriate evidence was ultimately submitted through COM:OTRS has no relevance to the block; you were blocked for using another account--even if in coordination with a second person--effectively to edit-war to recreate a properly deleted image (it was, in fact, not "properly licensed from the beginning".) COM:BP requires an understanding of the issue and a credible commitment to discontinue. This request has provided neither and thus cannot be granted. Note also that the block is "indefinite" (without definition), not "infinite" (without limit) as has been erroneously interpreted. It can be, and could have been, lifted at any time (4 minutes, 4 hours, 4 days, 4 weeks, 4 months, "Nearly four years later") upon meeting the aforementioned criteria.
