Wrong categorization

Hi there. I saw -but not read- your talk about wrong categorization around "letters". Some "special" letters used by Latin Alphabet using languages, like my mother tongue, Turkish may be confusing. For example we have a political party called "İYİ" which means "good" in Turkish but its symbol with those letters also is an ancient Turkish sign. It has nothing -or much- to do with the letter "I" because it is not I, it is İ. At the "Revision history of File:Meral Akşener İYİ Party (cropped)1.jpg" you will see how I have been wrongly reverted. Frankly I am bored of trying to communicate with everybody, I hope you are a good listener. Bye. --E4024 (talk) 20:45, 15 April 2019 (UTC)

@E4024: I understand that the characters are alphabetically distinct, but as they are closely related to each other typographically, I think it is okay to categorise files showing letter combinations including letters derived from basic Latin letters into categories for basic Latin letter combinations, if there aren't enough files to create a special category—as I did in your case—, which in turn should be a subcategory of the basic Latin letter combination category. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 16:58, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Last warning

I am not one to value civility over everything else in a project such as this, but if you’re going to be brusque and uncouth you better be right. I would have accepted this stunt if you were right, but you sure as heck are not: the H+D ligature is as much of a Latin letter as D+E, Ǝ+R, and others you can find at Category:Unencoded Latin letters. So, last warning: Next time you wanna behave in this obnoxious, uncollegial manner, you better be right: Because if you are right, I will even thank your reversion of my error (as I did before several times), but if you’re wrong and you decide to miscorrect me by means of the revert button instead of the talk page, I’ll have to ask you be blocked for edit warring. -- Tuválkin 00:02, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Definition of “letter” by Oxford: “a character representing one or more of the sounds used in speech; any of the symbols of an alphabet”. Neither does the ligature represent speech sounds, nor does it have a place in an alphabet. It's just an abstract technical symbol meaning “double coupling hydrant” independent from the used language and wording; cf. Category:Ruble Transnistrian sign, which is a symbol representing a currency, and while it derives from letters, itself is not. In the same way all other currency signs, some mathematical characters, and other letterlike symbols are NOT letters. 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 08:47, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
P. S. I don't think the DE ligature should count as an “unencoded Latin letter” since it's a stylistic ligature. Ǝ+R is a letter in the Unifon alphabet, so it should stay. And another example: Would you really treat ☧ as a letter? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 20:13, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
  • Looks like you can discuss matters, after all. Try to do that (point-to-point, in the relevant cat or file talk pages) instead of just playing with the revert button. -- Tuválkin 01:53, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

Where is the term “Latin character” used? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 15:30, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

You were warned

Yet you persist on reverting instead discussing — and you compound the unavoidably agressive message given by a revert with snide, smug edit summaries. Very well. Since you do not consider your work here as collaborative, I will not consider you as a fellow editor worth of my support. You’ll need it when you eventually pull this kind of stunt with one of the tyrants (and tyrant wannabes) on duty — but you wont have it. Fuddy-duddy bosybodies with peculiar interests and knowledgeable on unusal lore are a dime a dozen (I see one every time I look at a mirror!), but social skills to go with that, needed for a collaborative project, that’s much rarer. You don’t want to be one of those rare ones, so be it.

As for the matter of your reversal, you were wrong, strategically. However, instead of just reverting your reversal (which is how many users, including several admins, deal with problems like this), and not only to avoid edit warring, I went pro-active and created a new category, now populated with a crop. It’s too soon in terms of Commons’ growth, but better now than never. (Your suggestion of having the typography parent cats in each of the images was totally moot, as that’s how I had categorized the two photos in the first place.)

How to tag copyvios.

Hi! Just adding a file to the category of copyright violations is not acceptable. You need to use the correct template, add a reason, and notify the uploader. Have a look at Commons:Deletion_policy#Procedures_in_detail. Best, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 08:25, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Do you think I'm going to tag every of the 40+ files separately? 1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk) 08:26, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
  • As for the matter at hand, yes you’re pretty much expected to follow procedure once you were warned not to add the category directly. If you had asked politely, either me or Hedwig or anyone could show you how «to tag every of the 40+ files» in one go, not «separately», but if you wanna be on your own, well, you are. Your use of "40+" to mean ">40" is noted, too. -- Tuválkin 15:27, 3 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi 1234qwer1234qwer4, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

File:ThinkPad T23 Windows 7.jpeg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Electronic Jewish Encyclopedia in Russian 2005 Edition - File Deletion requests

Hi! I have uploaded this file to wikipedia from EJE Website by the request of the Encyclopedia's editors. Please help to specify the correct file data so that it will be accurate according to Wikipedia's rules. I have very little experience with uploading images to Commons. Krateven (talk) 16:49, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

@Krateven: Hello, just updating the file information will not be enough (in case the file is eligible for copyright); the "Encyclopedia's editors" will need to verify their request through OTRS. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 17:04, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello @1234qwer1234qwer4: I hope you're doing good. Thanks for updating and fixing the scripts for me. I'm not that much aware, but I was using some of the scripts, like the personality ones. Thanks for your consideration. --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 11:39, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

@C1K98V: Hello, I think you might have misunderstood something. I did not fix any scripts, I just added the script you were using to my common.js, so that I could use it too. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 11:41, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Rollbacker

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Commons:Rollback. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks.
