Photo Deletion Request

[edit]

Hi Eugene, I saw you requested for my photos to be deleted.. I own all the photos you requested to be deleted.. The only one I did not own out of the 5 (which was already deleted) was a photograph of a painting, that my friend JP White did.. I ASKED JP prior to uploading it to HIS wiki page (which he asked me to help him with), to which he said I could use it. The other 4 photos which are still up, but are up for deletion are photgraphs that WERE TAKEN BY ME.. Below I have explainations of when & where the photos were all taken, as well as links to the original places I posted them, which all can easily be linked back to belonging to ME. I also have photographs of myself w/ JP and his bandmates that were clearly taken the same day (usually within a few minutes to 2 hours of the photos that I took) were taken. It is very upsetting to have someone accuse you of not owning photographs that you clearly own. One of the photos (the main one on JP White's wikipedia entry) I took on my Iphone 4 two weeks ago, when he was checking out of a hotel w/ me after my birthday party.. (which there are on my facebook photos of him at).......

Here is what I wrote on my talk... THESE ARE MY PHOTO's... the file File:Han Joakim "J.P White" Petersson.jpg I took of JP on my IPhone (with the Instagram AP) when we were checking out of a hotel... The photo File:JP White and Nicki Kin.jpg and File:JP White Vains Of Jenna 2012.jpg I took in 2008 at a concert in Mesa arizona. and the photo File:JP White Vains Of Jenna 2012.jpg I took in 2007 at the Bam Margera Presents Viva La Bands tour, that I attended ON CKY/JESS MARGERA's GUEST LIST with a photography pass. If you don't believe me, you can see the original versions of these photos posted on MY web site www.rockstarbaby.net, and on my twitter SammiXOXO (which JP White follows) account a long with a slew of other photos of him and I hanging out.. I used to interview rock bands, and I am a PERSONAL FRIEND of JP White. Asfore the picture I posted that was deleted of JP's painting "freedom", he gave me permission to post it on his wiki page.... Infact I had him approve everything prior to me making any post on his wikipedia entry. https://twitter.com/#!/SammiXoXo/media/grid http://instagr.am/p/HMnyU3hk35/ File:Han Joakim "J.P White" Petersson.jpg Oh look here is him AND I on the same background two seconds after the first picture was taken.. File:Han Joakim "J.P White" Petersson.jpg http://www.rockstarbaby.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=12 the following can be found File:JP White and Nicki Kin.jpg File:JP White Vains Of Jenna 2012.jpg ... here is my facebook where it clearly states rockstarbaby.net as being my web site https://www.facebook.com/SamanthaScarlette plus my linkedin where it also states the fact.. http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=159376547&authType=NAME_SEARCH&authToken=oU3y&locale=en_US&srchid=a4b466dc-d006-4f75-ba4f-d6101f62449f-0&srchindex=1&srchtotal=3&goback=%2Efps_PBCK_*1_Samantha_Scarlette_*1_*1_*1_*1_*2_*1_Y_*1_*1_*1_false_1_R_*1_*51_*1_*51_true_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2_*2&pvs=ps&trk=pp_profile_name_link I also here is a picture of JP and I at the concert https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/317476_10150459772193677_527558676_11296497_1605477708_n.jpg

Pleas upload photos in original resolution to support your authorship claim. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:33, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

dearest eugene, here are the original photo resolutions..

This one with a Cannon Power shot G5 on October 8th 2007 at the Marquee Theater in Tempe Arizona(also as you can see this one is now without my photoshop color correction editing..this is the raw image file): http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Original_file_size_of_Jimmy_%22Lizzy_Devine%22_Johansson.JPG

I took these on June 7th 2008 at The Cell Block in Mesa Arizona, I believe I had upgraded my camera to a Cannon Power Shot G9 at this point in time: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Original_file_size_of_Hans_Joakim_%22JP_White%22_Petersson.JPG and http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Original_file_size_of_JP_White_and_Nicki_Kin.JPG

and last but not least this one was taken with my iPhone 4's Instagram Ap on February 19th 2012 at the Valley Ho Resort in Scottsdale Arizona, at the Valet Parking stand to be exact(the orange wall is visible in photos of the hotel on their website http://www.hotelvalleyho.com/hotelinformation/index.html): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b0/Original_file_size_of_JP_White_Vains_Of_Jenna_2012.jpg

Respectfully yours.. Lovesammi (talk) 07:30, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have originals with EXIF? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:44, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Eugene.. I wasn't sure what EXIF's were so I googled it.... apparently on a Mac you can get the EXIF info by clicking "get info", which I did, and the original resolution files all have their EXIF info intact.. I opened the EXIF info on all 4 photographs, and took a screen cap of it for you. As you can see they were taken with the camera's as I said. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/EXIF_info_%26_proof_of_ownership..jpg

BEST! Lovesammi (talk) 07:14, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

See en:w:Exchangeable image file format. If you took images with digital camera, EXIF should be with original files. You could just upload original images with EXIF to resolve this issue. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:57, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thats what I did. The files I uploaded that are listed as "original" all have the EXIF files. -- Lovesammi (talk) 19:25, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for doing that. Please mention this fact on deletion request page. I'm sure it will be close as keep. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:48, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi... Added a screen shot of a Free Washington Post Social Reader for Facebook yesterday in an article I'm creating about social reader applications. This is link of the file I got while updating (Washington Post Social Reader.png) Now here are the details which I could see on the deletion process (Screenshot of non-free content: Web site) (global usage; delinker log)

Now I'm not able to understand. Washington Post is offering it's news free, also Washington Post Social Reader for Facebook is offering free content, which people are allowed to post and share on their profiles. So by my instincts, this reader screen shot deletion might be reconsidered.

Just working on the thing, I've just found a link on Trove(The WaPo Labs project responsible for creating Washington Post Social Reader) which clearly states that this application is a free one. Here is the reference to the link.

Azeemi92 (talk)
Word free is ambiguous one. Even free (as freedom) software screenshot may include non-free elements like photos, etc. See Commons:Screenshots. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:42, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Dear Eugene, I apologize for disturbing you. You have recently deleted the file "ESDC_logo.png" which I uploaded and which was actually my creation since it is the logo of my organisation. Since I was somehow a "newbie" in the creation of file, I might have made the wrong choice regarding the copyright arrangement of this file and now I am unable to upload again the file under a new name. Would you be kind enough to help me or advising me on how to reupload this file, please? With best regards and many thanks for your help.

I think will be good idea to confirm logo release under term of free license by organization via Commons:OTRS. See example on Commons:Email templates.
Deleted file could be restored.

I did, but there was no reply. You told me before that if the "Mehran"s in nl wiki and other projects, which were not mine on that time, be renamed, you will rename my username too. Mehran Debate 19:31, 9 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My Photos

[edit]

Hi Eugene, the file Mcorral.jpg its a photo from home, my father took that photo a long time ago and i scanned it to make the page of my brother matias. I hope, you can understand and let de file uploaded.

If your father still alive, please use Commons:Email templates and Commons:OTRS to document permission. Description is not correct, because you are not original photographer. Could you also scan image in better resolution? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:40, 13 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I undersatnd, but my father it not alive, can email my self?? I send a email. Can you help me to put category to my other files??? they ask me to put them and i don´t know how to do it, where are thr options to the category, like sports o something like that????

Heirs own copyrights after author dead. So e-mail will be necessary for all heirs.
To help with categories I need to know what this person is famous for? Is he sportsman? What kind of sport?
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:46, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eugene. You were correct that the file KirksvilleHigh04.jpg should be deleted. I uploaded it when I was very new at adding Wiki photos, before I understood all the intracasies of the copyright stuff. Honestly, it had been so long I'd forgotten it was there. However I do not think there were sufficient grounds to remove the Kirksville Masonic Lodge 2 photo, the interior shot. It was taken with an old cheapo camera, then scanned thus no metadata. I ran it through a photo enhancement program to try to improve the quality best as could -- as I do most of my posted photos. I've asked the Lodge to allow another, better quality photo of their interiors but to date they've been unresponsive. Maybe it's the whole Da Vinchi Code thing lol. I'm still learning & figuring all this out so your forbearance is appreciated. If you need to reply, you'll have better luck with my regular Wikipedia page since I rarely check Wikipedia Commons. Have a great Wiki kind of day. Sector001 (talk) 02:28, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think you could just rescan and reupload photos in better quality to support your claim of authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 6 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
File:Form_of_government.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Category discussion warning

Maps of cities in Israel has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Question concerning article En materia de pescado

[edit]

Hello Eugene. You have erased the file "Logotipo_Tv_serie_En_Materia_de_Pescado.jpg" from the article En materia de pescado What should I do in order to fullfill all needs and place it back in the article? Also, I recently changed my wikipedia user name from "En Materia de Pescado" to "Edgar Esquivel" instead. Nevertheles It is not changed in my wikimedia commons user page. Is there something I must do about it?

Thank you for your help and time --En Materia de Pescado (talk) 19:53, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If your project allow non-free images (for example, English Wikipedia), you could upload image there as fair use and justify its usage for article. Alternatively you could try to ask authors/copyright holders to release this image under terms of one of free licenses. See Commons:Email templates and Commons:OTRS for details.
Account renaming is performed in each project independently. Commons:Changing username is place to request renaming here.

Escudo de la Universidad de Alcalá

[edit]

Estimado EugeneZelenko:

He visto que has borrado File:U-alcala.png por considerarlo "Copyright violation: University logo".

Dear Admin Zelenko,

Do you think you can reach a decision on whether to pass this image or to file a DR on it? As you know, there is no Freedom of Panorama in France. I had asked Jastrow (several days ago) if she could make a comment but she did not. Perhaps she is busy. Normally, a modern concrete bridge wold be copyrighted but I don't know if the law is the same for a pedestrian bridge in France. At any rate, it is a unique bridge, and not a bland one. Glabb, the uploader, is very familiar with image licenses and he has uploaded hundreds of freely licensed images of bridges to Commons. So, the problem is whether FOP affects this French bridge. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:38, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think this case depends on typicality of bridge. I can't comment on this, since I never vist France :-( --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:52, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bot approval process

[edit]

Hi! As I pointed out weeks ago, in my opinion there are several bot approval requests in need of attention from a bureaucrat. Eg:

Please, can you take a look? What about to introduce the use of templates like en:Template:BAGAssistanceNeeded and en:Template:OperatorAssistanceNeeded in order to avoid unnecessary stalls? Thanks! -- Basilicofresco (msg) 13:20, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think bot approval process needs not only bureaucrats attentions or template, but just more other user attention (including experienced bot owners). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:45, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I fully agree and I will probably ask for some help also in Commons talk:Bots. Nevertheless when the discussion is over and there are no objections or additional questions... the only thing users can do is just wait for a bureaucrat. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:47, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will run Commons:Bots/Requests/IndareviewR now. If you have obligations, just block it, please. I know it is important to detect bot-errors before they occur but in this case we are limited in time. It is not my intention to ignore you or the community. I will have an eye on the bot's work. Thank you. -- RE rillke questions? 18:01, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Minecraft avatar chopping tree with axe.png

[edit]

Hi, you deleted File:Minecraft avatar chopping tree with axe.png with the comment "(Screenshot of non-free content: Game)". Please undelete asnd nominate it for discussion, because the terms of use of minecraft appear to allow free use of the screenshots. See http://web.archive.org/web/20110302004249/http://www.minecraft.net/copyright.jsp for an archive of the permission from http://www.minecraft.net/copyright.jsp, now moved to http://www.minecraft.net/terms . See also Category:Minecraft for other images some of which will also need their permission URLs updating. -84user (talk) 06:11, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, there is now a custom {{Minecraft}} template used for Minecraft screenshots, but not all image description pages have been updated with it. The problem was the copytight permission page did exist at the URL I added, but 6 months later it was moved to http://www.minecraft.net/terms . Also, archive.org failed to make an archive of the precise URL, only of full URL http://www.minecraft.net/copyright.jsp . 84user (talk) 06:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I restored images of this game which I deleted yesterday. Please improve their descriptions to avoid similar confusions in future. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:45, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I was involved in a deletion request related to a Minecraft screenshot recently and carefully read all of the terms. I noticed two suspicious things:

Any tools you write for the game from scratch belongs to you.

Plugins for the game also belong to you and you can do whatever you want with them, including selling them for money. We reserve the final say regarding what constitutes a tool/plugin and what doesn't.

I don't know whether any tools or plugins may contain any art or whether any screenshots may be derivative works of the said tools or plugins, but the above quotes seem to make clear that screenshots of those tools and plugins aren't covered by the usual screenshot terms. Thus, it is necessary to check that screenshots are free of plugin and tool graphics, unless the tool or plugin authors give their permission. Anything not displaying tools or plugins looks fine:

You're free to do whatever you want with screenshots and videos of the game, but don't just rip art resources and pass them around, that's no fun.

Stefan4 (talk) 14:55, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely there may be different interpretations of terms and condition text. I think deletion request for all screenshots (or game-specific template) is best place to discuss matters. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:50, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In case you are interested in the topic: I started a discussion at Commons:Village pump/Copyright#Minecraft screenshots where I stated a few concerns. --Stefan4 (talk) 17:16, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Admin Zelenko,

If this monument in Russia can be passed, feel free to pass it. If not, then please fail it. I'm not sure if its just a piece of stone with a plaque or if it has any FOP issues. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:05, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think stone is usual boulder, so sculptor involvement is unlikely. Plaque text seems short and doesn't occupy too much space on photo. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:08, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you for clearing the matter up. I thought it was just a boulder but when people use words like 'memorial' sometimes, its better to get advice from an Admin first. I will pass it now. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:03, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a FOP violation, please tell the uploader so. It seems from his uploads that he only speaks Russian and edits in Cyrillic. I filed a DR on another on his uploads as you can see on his talkpage. (but I don't know if he can read English). I passed the other image you mentioned. Thank You in advance, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:31, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think this image could pass. Monument itself is pyramid covered by granite. Other elements are Order of Victory ({{PD-RU-exempt}}) and table with single sentence (quite regular for such monuments). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:46, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removed all Images

[edit]

I understand the possible copyright issues of some of the photos I posted here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Eduncan911/Dell_XPS_730X

But you removed two of my "personal" photos I created. It seems you were happy to remove any and all photos without careful evaluation, assuming they were all possible copyright infringment.

This was also a "work in progress" page, not published yet. THerefore allowing me time to correct the material.

Finally, I was under the 7 days alloted to imprint the proper copyright notifications. You deleted all images in less than 24 hours, which I believe violates the terms of agreement for using the Wikimedia Commons.

In addition, I have currently contacted Dell to ask for permission of uses this outdated photos and have 7 days to retain Copyright notifications under Wikimedia Commons terms of use. Deleting them less than 24 hours after I posted them is rather quite hasty, especially since I was under the 7 days alloted and have properly requested permission.

I will re-load all photos, again, because I feel this was done in haste without careful consideration.

Sorry, your upload seem taken from web sites. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:40, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, I guess I better forget that comment about soviet democracy I have on the tip of my tongue ... ;-)

Neutral votes are not assumed pro or contra, but never ignored. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:42, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But that's exactly what "neutral" is supposed to be! It says: "Don't count me in, I'm neither pro nor contra, I just wanne drop my2cnt!"

Building form is definitely not typical. From other side is not too complicated geometrical form. Other elements (windows, etc) looks standard. So probably deletion request is good idea.
File:Charles de Gaulle statue in Moscow-1.jpg is much more interesting case. Did sculptor permission received?

Dear EugeneZelenko, I saw you speedy deleted File:Wilde Mossels.jpeg, File:Nadine poster design b Brat Ljatifi.jpg & File:De President.png, uploaded by Erik de Bruyn. I hope you are aware that the uploader is the film director of the movies promoted by these posters. То есть единственные способ узурпировать этот ник это непосредственно получить пароль от самого участника, при том что он давно не проявлял активности и очень вряд ли что его емейл работает? --93.73.4.0 17:45, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Logo from article

[edit]

Hi Eugene, I'm just questioning why you've removed the logo from the Epping Boys' High School article. I'm from the school, and I have obtained permission to use this logo. The logo that was previously used there is also from the school. Even though it was hand drawn it was done by a member of the school. All I did was update the logo to the current one as per the school's instructions. You can find the logo everywhere on http://www.eppingboys.nsw.edu.au, and the previous logo used in the article was also available on that site, but has since been removed because of the new logo.

Thanks.

Please make sure that logo is released under term of free license compatible with Commons:Licensing. Please use Commons:Email templates and Commons:OTRS for that purpose. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:49, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Bots

[edit]

Hi Eugene! You helped me before, so I bug you again! :-)) I'd like to know if I should apply for bot flag for my HiW-Bot? I would only work on interwikis. The bot runs the pywikipedia framework without any alterations. Would that help on commons? In the future I would like to add some more tasks, like adding language headers (half-automatic) and stuff like that. Let me know what you think about the interwikis for now. Thanks a lot for your time! --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 07:51, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think will be good idea to add request on Commons:Bots/Requests and make test run for each task (interwikis and language guessing). Since interwikis is standard functionality it should be quick approval, but nonstandard one need more attention. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:56, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No bot run without request/approval. :-)) I stick with interwiki for now, I don't know if/when I get the language part up and running. Still having issues with non-standard languages and right to left. Drives me nuts! :-)) I go ahead and apply for interwiki approval. Thanks for your time, Eugene! It's appreciated!! --Hedwig in Washington (MAIL?) 21:48, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's regular practice to request permission for additional functionality separately. Alternatively you could have several bot accounts for different tasks what may be more easy for you for housekeeping purposes :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:35, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indicating RfA results

[edit]

Hi! When closing RfAs as successful/unsuccessful, any chance you could fill in the result field so that it's clear from the RfA page whether the request was successful? For example, Russavia's RfB just says "Support = 17; Oppose = 1; Neutral = 0 - 94% Result.", with no indication of whether the user was promoted or not. (I presume "Result" is supposed to be changed to "Successful", "Unsuccessful" or whatever.) That would make it easier to see the result straight away without having to check the archive or the user's talk page. Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 13:52, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are dedicated category for successful requests for adminship. Of course, if bureaucrats will not forget to add it :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:37, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see, but I still think it would be better to actually state what the result was in the closure instead of making people figure it out by looking at the categories at the bottom of the page. The RfB I linked above isn't even included in either of those categories. Jafeluv (talk) 13:36, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to not forget to do so in future :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:39, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:22, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Zelenko. I'm always a little puzzled by copyright law. A painting (sufficiently old) is allowable, where the canvas or panel is usually of greater depth than the plate in this case. But I suppose it is argued that only the two-dimensional surface is photoed. In connection with this, would it then be acceptable to use a photo of the the main part of the illustration on the plate, which is equally two-dimensional? I ask because there is such a photo at the site where I found the picture of the whole plate. I am still awaiting a response to my request for permission to use it but, if that fails to come within a resonable time (let's say seven days), I might substitute for it the two-dimensional, partial view if that is allowed. You're the expert, I'd be grateful for your opinion. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 13:11, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Plate is definitely three-dimensional object, so even making flat view require some expertise to avoid shadows. May be picture only part will be OK, but I'm not sure. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:46, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at the second illustration on this page. It definitely looks 2-dimensional. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 10:09, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are correct. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:50, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Permission arrived 2 days ago; owner requests that it only be used for the WP article requested. I have an email saying as much but have forgotten the procedure for sending it officially. Could you remind me, please? I think too that in this case I should reload the picture to English Wiki and then you can delete from Wiki Commons. Is that correct? 2.98.226.232 22:55, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Commons require permission to use for anybody for any purpose. I don't think that even Wikipedia will allow to use such picture. You could upload it as fair use, but it may be not survive because other photo could be taken.
For dealing with permissions you need to use Commons:OTRS or dedicated Wikipedia OTRS queue.

Mass deletion requests

[edit]

Hello EugeneZelenko,

you often make deletion request for all uploads by a given user because of suspected copyvios ect., which is fine. But you only tag and mention one file of those uploads, which can cause problems. One problem is that closing such deletion requests means more effort for the closing admin, which means they are de facto decided later. But more important is that when someone comes across a file that you included in one of those DRs, but did not tag, then that someone is not aware of your previous deletion request and may make another deletion request, which recently happened to me (I didn't have much time then and didn't see that one file was already tagged).

So I have one request: Would you consider making such mass deletion requests with Rillke's AjaxMassDelete script? It helps quite a lot with tasks like this. Please have a look at the documentation at User talk:Rillke/AjaxMassDelete.js. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 13:25, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for suggestion! I'll try it. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:49, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, can any one post a picture without it being deleted

[edit]

I have posted several pictures that the wiki deleted. One of a DMS that I personally took. Another was a picture of a logo that we are member of and have permission to use. What is the point of using these sites if we can not use pictures that we take or have permission to use.

Could you please be more specific about deleted files? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

These Images

[edit]

Who marks these images when the permission is supposed to be in Russian? Are there other Russian speaking Admins on Commons. I suspect that only a few Admins or trusted reviewers likely can read Cyrillic. If I can't read the text as in this or this image, of course I avoid marking the photo to be safe. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:56, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it's good idea if only administrators and license reviewers who know language mark such images.
I confirm, that permission is correct for these images.
Other active trusted users who know Russian (and probably could read other close ones like Belarusian, Ukrainian): User:Russavia, User:Butko, User:Kaganer, User:Ahonc, User:George Chernilevsky.

Thanks for uploading File:USA-1874-Coin-3.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Regarding pending name change request

[edit]

Hi Eugene,

Regarding my pending request here [5], as I feared might happen, apparently clicking on a commons image last week on my SUL account ("Rails") caused that name to be auto-created here. So now it is no longer a simple rename, but technically a usurp. However, it should prove beyond a doubt that I am the global owner of that name, so I ask again that the name change proceeds, so my contributions here stay associated with my Rails account. I still do plan to request usurp of the RU WP account, but they require 1000 edits before so doing, and I'm not there yet. Please advise, thank you. ☢ Prompt Critical (talk) ☢ 19:57, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that usurping Russian Wikipedia account will be big problem. Account is old and used only 2 times in 2008. If you need assistance with Russian, I could help you. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Maky

[edit]

Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do in order to usurp the username "Maky" on Commons. I have done it on enwiki and claimed the SUL. Admittedly, there was a bit of a misunderstanding initially. I had thought that my enwiki usurpation request would mean that I would effectively usurp the account name on all wikis because of the checks made on global accounts and the SUL. When I realized that I had to usurp them all individually, I thought that my existing SUL account would cause conflicts if I only managed to usurp a few of the accounts, but not all of them. I now have a better understanding of how this works. As it stands, I now control all the most important accounts named "Maky" on the projects I am most likely to work on... except on Commons. Again, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help it along. – VisionHolder « talk » 20:10, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This name is used in Bosnian, Croatian, Hungarian and Polish Wikipedias. Please usurp it there. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:47, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused... I usurped it on enwiki and control SUL (which includes most of the wikis). I can certainly usurp it on all but the Polish wiki, but is there a reason why the rules for usurpation are different for Commons than for the other wikis? Normally the SUL ownership and zero edit counts on Commons and other wikis would be sufficient... or at least that's how it seems to be handled. – VisionHolder « talk » 21:35, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, the usurpation requests for SUL are in, but the bureaucrats on the wikis you pointed me to don't appear to be very active. In the case of bswiki and cswiki, bureaucrats haven't responded to requests in over a month. I'm not sure how long it will take. – VisionHolder « talk » 01:29, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Commons is common project. I don't see any reason why one of other projects account holder should have preference for owning common name. Usurping common name everywhere will resolve this issue. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:54, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have succeeded in usurping the huwiki account, which had 43 edits, as well as most of the 1- and 0-edit accounts on other wikis. All that's left is Commons (with 0 edits), hrwiki (with 4 or 6 edits), plwiki (with 10 edits, mostly minor or in the user space), and rowiki (with 0 edits). The usurpation requests on hrwiki and rowiki should be approved any day since the user has not replied to the request in more than week. As we've discussed, I have no plan to usurp plwiki unless I have to. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to usurp there for at least another 6 months, assuming the current user continues to make no edits. Given that hrwiki and rowiki appears to be "in the bag" (pending only revisits from the bureaucrats), leaving only plwiki, may we please proceed? I work a lot between enwiki and Commons, so logging in and out all the time becomes very frustrating. Thanks. – VisionHolder « talk » 04:50, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please usurp Polish and Croatian Wikipedia accounts. I understand that switching names is inconvenient, but new common name was your choice. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:40, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Croatian usurp is coming, but again, the Polish one cannot happen for at least 6 months. I understand that Commons is an international project, but I do not understand where you are getting the rules you are applying to this situation. According to the information at the top of COM:USURP, this request (as it stands now) is an allowable usurpation request since the "target account is unused, and has not been SUL reserved". Furthermore, all three of the "Non-allowable usurpations" do not apply. In this case, I meet all the requirements per COM:USURP, I am a very active editor, the account I want to USURP has never been used, and the plwiki editor is hardly ever active, making nothing more than a handful of minor edits in the main space and edits in his user space. Additionally, he's made no attempt at acquiring the SUL (which was wide open 'til I came along), and it is highly unlikely he owns the Commons account. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I just don't understand where these special conditions are coming from. I'm fine waiting for the Croatian wiki to ususp, even though the admins are not very responsive. But nowhere in the rules does it say you have to own the full SUL to usurp on Commons. – VisionHolder « talk » 16:18, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but I could not add anything new to my previous answer. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:36, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, I'm posting here in my role of a bureaucrat of pl-wiki. The user has tried to usurp the account, but was denied by the original owner (who has an edit count of 10 edits in total). According to our current rules, this ends the case. However, I'd like to support the user's request for usurpation on the commons - it seems that the user is making many more edits on wiki-projects that the possible other contributor from pl-wiki and therefore s/he has a much better standing in the usurpation here. Pundit (talk) 23:49, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Is it possible to get agreement for usurpation on Commons from Polish Wikipedia user? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:36, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Co9nsidering the fact that in spite of his minimal activity (10 edits) he sticks to the nickname, I'd consider it unlikely. Yet, with editing history considered, it is quite clear that the current usurper has a much better claim. Pundit (talk) 19:32, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Usurp request for Scann

[edit]

Hi Eugene, I have asked for usurpation on Commons, and there's another account with the same name in the Estonian Wikipedia. The bureaucrat of Estonian Wikipedia has told me | this. My problem is that if you check, Scann in es.wikipedia has 518 edits and I want to unify it with my account in Commons (Scanno), since I'm the same person. I don't know if you have a global policy for it, but I have read in other parts here that if some account has no activity within six months, I'm supposed to be able to usurp it. Please, help me, because I want to have my accounts unified, and this is just so bureaucratic that I just want to get off from Wikipedia just for being such a nightmare to do something as simple as changing my username. And also it doesn't make any sense to me that I can't unify my accounts if I have more contributions in the es.wikipedia than the one who is in the estonian wikipedia. --Scanno (talk) 04:56, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to deleted user's upload, this account belongs to user of Estonian Wikipedia. So usurpation is both places seems reasonable.
Renaming accounts is simple when there are no naming conflicts.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Eugene. There's something I still don't understand. If I have Scann in es.wikipedia since 2010, and the person from Estonian has Scann since 2011, why he/she didn't have to ask for usurpation in es.wikipedia, but I do have to ask it? Sorry for making this questions. --Scanno (talk) 22:24, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GBC cartridges

[edit]

Hi, yesterday you deleted all of my pictures of game boy color cartridges. I'm not going to reupload them or anything, I'm just wondering why these other examples have not been deleted:

Because I saw these on Wikimedia I assumed that my pictures would be okay. After all, some of them have been on Wikimedia for over six years! Just looking for some consistency here. Also it would have been good if you had warned me on my Wikipedia account as it is my main one. I didn't notice they were up for deletion until they had been deleted. Delusion23 (talk) 20:15, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In fact I would like to upload them to Wikipedia directly, bypassing Wikimedia, but I am unsure as to what to categorize it under. Is it my own work, as I took the picture? Or is it a depiction of a copyrighted three-dimensional work? I had no idea before this deletion that by taking pictures of something I would somehow break copyright by accident. Delusion23 (talk) 20:23, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted those which could not fall under {{PD-textlogo}}. Game cartridge design is not copyrighted (probably patented in past), but artwork on it may be. See Commons:Derivative works for further explanations. Sure, you may upload such images into English Wikipedia as fair use. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:37, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Category discussion warning

Category:Holy_Cross_Catholic_church,_Santa_Cruz,_California has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed.

Thank you!

Загрузка чужих фотографий

[edit]

(Oleksiy.golubov (talk) 19:04, 15 March 2012 (UTC)) (PS.

Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 17:24, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think fastest way to add request on Commons:Bots/Work requests or contact directly active bot owner whom you know. I could suggest to ask help from User:Jarekt or User:Kaganer. Otherwise, you could add request Commons:Bots/Requests and simultaneously do test run. In later case it could take ~ 5 days. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:55, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Евгений, хотелось бы понять, в чём заключаются претензии к файлу, т. к. в моём представлении какая-либо творческая составляющая в нём полностью отсутствует. — putnik 18:19, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

— putnik 11:19, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Точность как раз является неохраноспособным фактом, а вот визуальное оформление (цвета, форма линий и стрелочек) можно менять без ущерба для качества. За статью спасибо, подумаю. — putnik 11:11, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

renaming of my account

Hi Eugene,

My old account name is displayed at hundreds of my images in a file history that I cannot change. Please see here for example. As soon as somebody hits at my contributions,my talk, my user name here what he will see, and it is not as a rename of account for privacy reasons should work. I asked russavia to fix it, but it did not bother to respond although it was active. You deleted the file http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Ath-feb-12-17.30.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1 which was sourced (if you had bothered to look) and was from an anarchist site, and also replicated across other anarchist sites. Obviously, they do not state copyright because they don't believe in such crap. What licence am I supposed to infer from this?

Moreover, it was the only non-press photo that I could find of ANY of the Greek Syntagma Square demonstrations. So now the page on WP has nothing to show, after 3 years of about 200 demos and an actual occupation of several months.

Hi EugeneZelenko, you added a warning that the image File:The Masaï 1987.jpg is missing essential source information. What is missing here? It's not my image, but the author wrote it is his own work. So what's the problem? Miura (who put it here) is new to Wikipedia. So he's making beginner's mistakes. But I asked him about this picture. It's his own. But because it's an old one (1987) he had to scan it to be able to upload it here. It was never published before. Best,--Queeste (talk) 16:35, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is his picture. If you let someone make a photograph from you and your partner with your camera, then it is your photo. But I guess your remark was a joke. So pleeeeeease remove the template before the photo is deleted. Thanks,--Queeste (talk) 17:03, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Person makes photo, not camera :-) I don't think it's trivial case, since legal agreement was unlikely. Anyway I think permission confirmation via OTRS is best solution. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:40, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For your information, there is now also a discussion at COM:HD#Photo The Masaï 1987 about this matter. --Stefan4 (talk) 15:08, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ridiculous bureaucracy. Is this the free and open community I once knew as ready to help in any way with sharing information, available for everyone? Wkr, Fontes (talk) 16:57, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Usurp request Ahmerkhan

[edit]

Hi Eugene,

May I please ask you to approve my Usurp request for User:Ahmerkhan on Commons:Changing_username/Usurp_requests. It has been pending for three weeks now. -- 212.183.20.34 14:44, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's good idea to usurp account of people with useful contributions. Better solutions is to find more unique name. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:02, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But there is no useful contribution from that user, as mentioned on the request. There is no user page, no article and one (!) uploaded picture from 2007 that is not being used in any articles. Whoever created that account is certainly not active on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons and has probably never logged in again after uploading that picture. I don't want to use a different user name for Commons, because I am actively using the SUL Ahmerkhan one on the German and English Wikipedia (having successfully usurped a pre-exisiting account on the English Wikipedia). -- 212.183.20.34 07:17, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can't add anything to my previous arguments. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:42, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly disagree with your arguments, but I guess there is no way to make you understand the situation. --212.183.20.34 11:36, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Usurpation

[edit]

Hi. Could you please perform this request? I have sucessfully usurped the japanese Defender account and there is no obstacle now. Thanks in advance, Defender 18:03, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I just want to clarify that logo was uploaded with permission from the administration and that I uploaded it following the proper licensing through media commons policies...Please, kindly review the previous discussions before doing any actions. Your instructions and advice on how I can solve the issue is highly appreciated. Thanks!..--QuecyKeith (talk) 17:29, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask administration to send permission (see Commons:Email templates as example) to Commons:OTRS. Images could be restored after reviewing permission.
Anyway, who is author of original logo design? If school - you can't claim authorship over it as it was on description pages.

File:Belarus-Minsk-New National Library-2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Dear Eugene, you deleted this logo. It is the official logo of this school and therefore public-domain by german law. Maybe I did some tagging wrong, so I would be grateful if you are kind enough to help me with doing it right. Thanks -- J.Schrader (talk) 12:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please point to which section of {{PD-GermanyGov}} it should fall? It doesn't look too simple for {{PD-German logos}}. It was also marked as {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}} without any explanation. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:43, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So I did the tagging wrong (but I have to admit, that the template {{PD-GermanGov}} is new to me), sorry for that. This logo is official, published, used in official publications of this school and therefore an official work. --J.Schrader (talk) 09:23, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
