Hello, I was wondering if you could give me a helping hand. Because of the name confusion and other (date issues), I moved the images from the Category:Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis category to a newly created Category:Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis (1846 – 1919) which I added to the Category:Ferdinand Jacob Domela Nieuwenhuis (because it is his son). No I noticed there is a {{Creator:Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis}} remaining. Do you have any idea what needs to be done next? Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 14:54, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

- @Kai3952: (I'm sorry, I missed the notification and never saw this message before!). I added all these based on Wikidata. It could be that there are conflicting sources about where the person is born, so we have two conflicting informations. I'm checking if there is a birth category already existing on Commons before adding those, but since I'm querying on dumps, this filter doesn't always work. All the cases you listed had no "birth place" categories beforehand. The "People from" categories also includes the cities where people grew up, or lived, or worked for a long time, regardless of if they were born there or not. Does that answer your question? --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 10:34, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
- We have not created the "People from" categories. Please look at Category:People by country.--Kai3952 (talk) 04:41, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I don't understand this answer? Of course "People from" categories exist? --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 06:14, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- You said "People from", but I only see "People of" from that category. In all the cases I listed (see 8 diffs) we see most of these people are from Taiwan. Personally, I think zh.wikipedia is more reliable than Wikidata. If you think that the "People of" categories are includes the cities where people grew up, or lived, or worked for a long time, why you did not fill the edit summary?--Kai3952 (talk) 13:38, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, I confused "people from" and "people of" in my message. But my point still stands: I added "Birth" categories (see Category:Births by country if you want), not "People of", so it's no duplicate. I can't know why people are categorized in "People of" categories, because these categories are larger than just the birth place, so I can't just replace one for the other. So I'm adding the birth place when Wikidata knows it. This is also information present on the infoboxes by the way, so if there is conflicting information, it's not new. I did fill the edit summary, it tells you that I did these by batch, using the QuickCategories tool (these batch, in fact). I added hundred thousands of birth and death places on Commons this last year, I did not do that manually. I use SPARQL queries then automated tools. I verified if they already had "Birth places" categories. They did not, so I added the information.
- Concerning data, I trust way more Wikidata than any Wikipedia, because every time we seriously listed diverging information between one specific WP and WD and tracked who was wrong, Wikidata came out better. That doesn't mean it's always right, far from it, especially when there exists a specific Wikiproject keeping their small corner of Wikipedia well-curated and nobody is doing the same work on Wikidata. There are some awesome contributors who do a tremendous job of cleaning up their small corner. But generally speaking, I do trust Wikidata more for basic data. In all the cases you listed, the information I added is still present on Wikidata (nobody corrected in one year), and still present on the infoboxes in Commons (so I guess these people are still "born in two places" on Commons, like it was already the case before I added the categories).
- Frankly, it just terribly bothered me last year that we had so much information in the infoboxes absent from the categories. So I worked to add all these missing categories. I didn't invent any of these values, so every conflicting information was conflicting information already present on Commons at the time. Conflicting information which is still present, to this day, in all your examples. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 14:11, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Wikidata, Yle topic ID (P8390), bilingual question
Hello Harmonia Amanda,
We at Projekt Fredrika have a question regarding a Wikidata property we hope you could answer. It is regarding the Yle topic ID P8390 - we had a chat with Mårten Seiplax at Yle who asked if we know anybody could help.
Yle provides bilingual URL formats for Finnish and Swedish, but on items in Wikidata with P8390, the Wikidata web-UI it is only showing the Finnish variant https://yle.fi/aihe/t/$1 for any of the 1657 object that has a P8390 - see this search.
Here is an example of Bernie Sanders (Q359442) with only the one link with the Finnish format:
I presume the problem has something to do with the fact that P8390 has two options for format för URL (P1630): Finnish url format is https://yle.fi/aihe/t/$1 and swedish is https://svenska.yle.fi/t/$1. Finnish is prefered ranking, and Swedish is normal. I have not wanted to test changing any ranking without discussing with somebody wiser than me on how this is supposed to work.
Do you have any suggestions who could advice us on this?
Regards, Robert, Lina & Kaj Robertsilen (talk) 13:43, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
