File:Ste Mere Eglise Paratroopers from Heaven.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Answer regarding dinosaur restorations.

I know it's inaccurate. But the point is that I don't have all time in the world, and I feel it as I give what I( have done. If it don't becomes accepted, it can be deleted.

How do you pass this derivative image? Just wondering. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:13, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I made a note for the user. There IS a permission in OTRS for PD-user. However we can not be sure that it came from the Flickr user and the OTRS voulenteer just replyed that a OTRS was not needed since the user could just change the license on Flickr. The reason I let the bot look was that I could not find it the first time. When I had made all changes I finally found it and then I just decided to let the bot finish the job :-) --MGA73 (talk) 19:29, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Sammito antoine

Is it possible if you could send a message to sammito antoine on panoramio and directly ask him if he gave permission for Dr Fo to upload these 18 images from his account to wikipedia in 2008. If he says yes, then they can all be passed. There is NO need to ask for a complicated cc by or cc by sa license reply from him...as Lupo has said (I am sure you have read his reply to my question on his talkpage) because in 2008, a general permission for an image to be used for wikipedia was acceptable.

You can send him a message with a link to the 18 images that I sent you and mention Dr Fo, wikipedia, permission, etc like this:

"Antoine Sammito Cher, Avez-vous permettre à M. Pour télécharger ces 18 images de votre compte Panoramio à Wikipedia en 2008? Pouvez-vous s'il vous plaît répondre par oui ou non, monsieur?" or (Dear sammito antoine, Did you allow Dr. Fo to upload these 18 images from your panoramio account to wikipedia in 2008? Can you please answer yes or no sir?"
  • I notice he speaks only French. Maybe you can send him this message here He has replied to 1 message from Dr. Fo and I passed that image here...but the permission applied to only 1 image. Maybe his account is still active. If he has left panoramio, then they will have to be deleted.

Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:51, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

✓ Done I was not able to make a link work so he has to copy paste. --MGA73 (talk) 09:10, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
  • That's OK. I notice that's the way the links work. Its up to him to make a reply now. Hopefully, his account is still active and that he has not left this web site. Best regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:00, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
  •  Comment: I think these two 2007 images can be passed. The uploader says it is his image (the author and chinese character is the same as the uploader's chinese caligraphy name). While the panoramio account is deleted today, I see no formal DRs against the uploader's talkpage except for one I filed...but I withdrew that DR...even though it was deleted here sadly. But I think these two can be kept on the AGF principle. The images look potentially useful too...and have the same camera model. A good sign indeed:
  • File:Papaver dubium L. on the road.jpg
  • File:Passenger car "Suha42 No.2047 ".JPG

Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:05, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

✓ Done --MGA73 (talk) 20:20, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your help. I, too, see no reason to disbelieve the uploader's claims here. And the images are usable and would pass FOP in Japan. In the deleted image, it showed a badly faded sign...and I wasn't sure if it would pass Japanese FOP. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 21:18, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

My stats

I may be less active for a while. But I wonder, do you have some stats on the number of images I have uploaded here for instance. I am not familiar with this process. That is 1 reason why I don't want to be an Admin here. Secondly, regarding stats, how would I find the 7,000,000 image here? There is no number to type in a search box it seems. I assume it is a poor or low quality picture. If it was a good one, it should be featured by now.

As an aside, you probably already know this but I don't really consider that Commons has 7 million good or usable images here sadly. Too many images here are orphaned personal images that just clog the DR process. I wonder if the Admins here ever have the time to delete them all. I remember reading M. Maggs once telling an Admin that the DR process was almost as long as 1 year for more difficult cases...which is terrible. Well I hope you can answer my 2 questions on my stats.

Closed the DR as kept :-)
As for the stats I personally do not care so much about them. 10 edits and pictures can be worth more that 500 edits and pictures. We have a lot of tools and counters but I seldom use others than this one http://toolserver.org/~vvv/sulutil.php?user=Leoboudv but perhaps you can find what you look for here http://toolserver.org/~vvv/yaec.php?user=Leoboudv&wiki=commonswiki_p --MGA73 (talk) 18:58, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
  • 893 image uploads for me. That not too bad at all. I'll save this information on my talkpage as I could never find it. Thank you, I agree about your comments about quantity not equalling quality. Best regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:15, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Happy that you found what you were looking for :-) Right now I have a project to cleanup en:Category:Wikipedia files on Wikimedia Commons and Category:Files moved from en.wikipedia to Commons requiring review. My plan is to keep new categories empty and slowly work back in time. --MGA73 (talk) 20:16, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
  •  Comment: This plan sounds quite feasible. Good luck here. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:39, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Just one note. This image: File:Kvaidyanathan.jpg I believe should just be deleted as the work of a temporarily blocked user. The uploader had so many copy vio notices on his talkpage--not just from me--that he was blocked for 1 week by Turelio. And as Turelio notes, how can this picture be taken in 2010 if the subject passed away in 2008? It is not possible to trust this uploader sadly. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:38, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Files for review

Hi, There probably is not a review template for these two files. I have heard of a way to save a copy of the webpage to keep a record of the file's current copyright. Any suggestions?

We have a template to use when nothing else fits :-) ✓ Done --MGA73 (talk) 18:55, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. What does the uploader put on the page to request a review? Snowmanradio (talk) 19:20, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Actually I do not think we have a template to put on so untill we make one you either have to ask an admin or add any other review template and hope the reviewer will notice :-) But perhaps we should just make a template for "all other review than Flickr, Panoramio and Picasa". --MGA73 (talk) 08:07, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
I think a new "other-sources" review template would help a lot. It should probably be named {{LicenseReview}} for consistency. Snowmanradio (talk) 10:55, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

✓ Done Since all images from that website has the same license I'm thinking if we should create a special template for images from that website. I will let you know if we create one. --MGA73 (talk) 19:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

I made a suggestion here Category:Images from the piqs.de project. --MGA73 (talk) 21:54, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
Where does it say that it is a suggestion? Snowmanradio (talk) 09:52, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Your comment

Hi MGA73, re: [1]. I don't think there is more of a track record in deletions either, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Cheers.  Docu  at 07:07, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

File seems to have been deleted instead of being moved

I requested a rename of File:Bielik (Haliaeetus albicilla).JPG to File:Haliaeetus pelagicus -Warsaw Zoo, Poland-8a.jpg, but the process appears to have gone wrong because the file has disappeared. It may have been deleted without being moved. It does not appear in the categories I would expect. I had put links on en wiki to this file, so if this file needs reinstating, could you rename it exactly as I have indicated. I am not able to view what happened to the file, and I would be grateful if you could help. Snowmanradio (talk) 09:49, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

The reason it is gone is that uploader (User:Ala z) requested a deletion. If you think it is usefull you could ask uploader why it was deleted or start a undeletion request. --MGA73 (talk) 12:09, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you very much for your unreservedly support. Geagea (talk) 20:27, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi! You approved the permission for the image above. What about this one File:WBBakerPromotional.jpg? Perhaps you could ask if we could get one for that image also? --MGA73 (talk) 18:35, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

The ticket from that image will cover the other one. Stifle (talk) 13:59, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Could you also check the images in this category? I noticed OTRS has been removed from this image File:October 87 - Khalis-loyal Muja.jpg. Was that supposed to happen? --MGA73 (talk) 19:16, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

The four images in the category do not have permission. We received an email releasing those four and five other images under an invalid licence, and when I asked for clarification, we got permission for the other five images but not the four in the category.
The removal of OTRS from that other image appears to have been by accident. I've restored it. Stifle (talk) 14:02, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

New message

Hello User:MGA73, my name is Rahul, and I am currently known as User:BOLLYWOOD DREAMZ on Wikipedia. On Friday, June 24th, 2010, I sent a message to OTRS indicating that I had uploaded 8 images that needed to be ticketed from the IndiaFM licence agreement. It has been nearly a month and I have had no response. If you don't mind, could you please ticket them when you have the time. I have provided the links of the images so it is easier for you to ticket them (File:Kapoor GQ Awards.jpg, File:Kapoor at Gitanjali launch.jpg, File:Kareena at Gitanjali launch.jpg, File:Kapoor TReloaded-08.jpg, File:Kareena at 3I premiere.jpg, File:Kareena at SV laptop launch.jpg, File:Saif-Kareena ramp walk.jpg & File:Kareena-Randhir at 3I premiere.jpg). Thanks & Best Regards -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 16:50, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

It has been a month and I have had no response from OTRS. Since you're a member of OTRS, could you please take a look at the images? I would really appreciate it. -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 04:14, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi! Sorry about the late response... I made a note here Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard#Ticket_2008030310010794_Bollywood_Hungama.2FIndiaFM. If image is from www.bollywoodhungama.com and it is not of screenshots, wallpapers or promotional posters then it should be ok. So everything looks ok to me but I'm not sure if we should add an extra OTRS or what we should do. --MGA73 (talk) 20:20, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Flickr review problems

There is something wrong with the flickr bot. I notice it marks only 1-2 photos right now. Maybe you know who runs the flickrbot? MBisanz would know but he is away. The backup is 120+ images at present. Yesterday, it was 82 images. I wonder if Admins and trusted users will have to mark the images in this category in the end. I think Bryan runs this program. Will you contact him...and does anyone mark the high resolution unmarked flickr images if the bot still doesn't mark the photos. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:11, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I left a note for Bryan. Hopefully that will clean out the backlog. --MGA73 (talk) 20:18, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Yes. But when I contact MBisanz, he usually sent a private E-mail (maybe through wiki or Commons?) to Bryan which got a quick response. I hope Bryan receives your message. If not, I may have to E-mail MBisanz myself. But I'll wait till the next interlude and see if Bryan had sorted the flickrbot out. I personally don't know Bryan at all. --Leoboudv (talk) 22:13, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Normally Bryan reply fast. I also look for him on IRC. But lets see :-) --MGA73 (talk) 22:20, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Yes. Lets wait. However, if the bot still doesn't mark the pictures, I'll likely about 15 of the high resolution flickr photos to keep the backlog manageable. If you check the reason why I applied to be a trusted user, it was not because I intended to be a trusted user. It was because I was frustrated at the frequent flickrbot breakdowns in 2009. I never expected to be approved so quickly but the 4 Admins who voted to support like Lupo or Kanonkas all knew me. And I think they were possibly tired of getting messages from me to mark images on obviously the right license. Well, let's pray that the flickrbot works at 00:15 or 06:15. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:59, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
  •  Comment: As an aside, I'm sorry, but I think you should perhaps withdraw your request to wait on this DR . It 2 weeks now after the DR and as I noted there is no evidence of any permission. The panoramio author has not responded to your request either and its only used on 1 wiki page. BUT this photo of a sculpture in Argentina may be saved if only the author can get the license right to maybe 'CC BY 3.0'? I have no idea about license settings on panoramio sadly. It was ARR the last time I marked it:
  • File:Monumento Bóers.jpg

Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:11, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

  •  Comment: Its too bad that someone deleted the image I suggested but if memory serves me right, it may not haave been used. As for the backlog, it is 230+ images. I will mark a few more but that is all I can do as today. I E-mailed 2 other Admins in private but nothing seems to be happening right now. I guess the summer is really slow. Of course, you could mark some (15?) of the high resolution photos if you want to. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:43, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
I send a mail for Bryan earlier today. Lets hope bot gets started. --MGA73 (talk) 19:47, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
  • OK. I'll remove my talkpage message to Lupo then. Bryan should receive the messages by now, hopefully if he has internet access. Best regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:14, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
I talked to him yesterday.Broken database server on the toolserver. He is trying to import a new one. --MGA73 (talk) 13:37, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that is nice. Anyway I worked on Category:Possibly unfree Panoramio images and nominated some images for deletions, passed a few and send a lot of messages to Panoramio users. Lets see what happens. --MGA73 (talk) 22:47, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

File:Square in Tbilisi.jpg

MGA you didnt nomonated File:Square in Tbilisi.jpg for deletion. You want that I delete it? Geagea (talk) 22:03, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Well. Without a working link we can not verify the license. Normally we say that admins should not review own uploads. But if you are quite sure that license was free you could perhaps add a review yourself (per the date you uploaded the file). --MGA73 (talk) 22:09, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I am sure that all photos of this user were under attribution as the other photos I uploaded. All his photos have attribution license. I also belive that the same with File:Saint Gevorg of Mughni Church, Tbilisi (hill view).jpg. I'll make the review as you suggest. Geagea (talk) 22:16, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Ok. Then you could perhaps also review the second image :-) --MGA73 (talk) 22:43, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
✓ Done :-) Geagea (talk) 22:49, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

I have a question. This DR has dug up some dirt on a now deleted panoramio account owner. He's left panoramio now though his damage lingers here. If you have any thoughts, please note them in the DR. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Not a photograph

Re this edit - it's not a photograph by Mbdortmund, it's a crop by Mbdortmund of a scan by Irate of a map originally prepared in 1913, ie 97 years ago. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:23, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

I know there is some errors. Mbdortmund has promised to clean up. --MGA73 (talk) 19:26, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
I already started to clean up, thank you very much, MGA73, and sorry, Redrose 64, it's impossible to decide by bot which pictures are retouched by me and which own uploads. Everything will be corrected. --Mbdortmund (talk) 19:32, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
I looked through the 8.000 files and corrected the categories of some hundred pictures; but there may be a rest, we will see... Thx again --Mbdortmund (talk) 22:42, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

On this panoramio photo, it might be worth it to ask the photographer if he allows it to be used on Commons on a 'cc by sa' license with no non-commercial restrictions. He clearly speaks English as this shows but I see no evidence for any permission. Anyway, if he says no, it can be deleted since the image is used on 1 wiki article only. I don't know if he is still around on the web site but it may worth it to try. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:19, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

✓ Done. Lets see what happens. I thought no images were left without comments now but seems I missed one. --MGA73 (talk) 10:12, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Thank You. If he gave verbal permission, its sufficient for Commons since the photo was uploaded in 2008. Personally, I think the original uploader was confused: he saw cc by sa license but may have missed the non "cc" component. But maybe I'm wrong. Its not a heavily used image and if its deleted, it won't be a major loss. The author will decide now. Best wishes, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:58, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
  •  Comment: Dear MGA, Did Bryan tell you that he was changing the settings of the flickr review bot? It seems that it marks images every hour now rather than every 6 hours....not that I'm complaining. I did not know about this change but maybe you did since you know everything as an Admin. As an aside, I wonder is it dangerous if people have your last name with identity theft. I notice that even you don't give your last name on your userpage but you can likely find a few early photos where I gave mine. Should I worry? What I definitely don't do is put my contact address online. That would be stupid! Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:00, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
  • As an aside, if this user does get a license change here, feel free to pass it. Insider is usually quite reliable and E.Zelenko has talked to this guy in the past occasionally. So, this license problem puzzles me as he has uploaded other images from this panoramio account. --Leoboudv (talk) 06:21, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Dear Leoboudv. Image is reviewed (now) :-) Admins do not know everything but in this case I found out here Commons:Bots/Work_requests#FlickreviewR_clone. As for the name I do not think it is a problem unless you do not want others to find out who you are. --MGA73 (talk) 17:08, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Thanks for letting me know about the clone. Yes, it is indeed good idea...to keep the images marked at regular 1 hour intervals and at smaller amounts. As for my last name, I was just concerned, that is all. Nothing serious has happened. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:22, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Does this need a license change? The actual license is 'creative commons--no rights reserved.' Maybe it needs a license review too by you as confirmation that this is the license just in case as the subject is an important person. I cannot decide here. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:18, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

  • Maybe I am wrong. The license says CC and PD--but perhaps a license review by you would provide confirmation that this is the case as people change licenses so often sadly. Its hard to say. --Leoboudv (talk) 00:48, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes the license is http://creativecommons.org/licenses/publicdomain/ and perhaps we should add a review. If someone looks at what links here they can see that we verified that license was free. We should probably make a policy what to review. Perhaps we should review everything that could be reviewed. --MGA73 (talk) 20:04, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
We have {{LicenseReview}} to files from places without its own template. As for the rename Commons Delinker has been "down" for some time so I have not been renaming som many used files for a few days. --MGA73 (talk) 19:21, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
  • OK. Thanks for your help. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:26, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
  • Update. Maybe you should type in the License Review. I never adopted this script since after I adopted the flickr review script my computer speed started to slow down I notice. I just type in the picasa and panoramio passes myself. I tried to pass the image but it did not work out as you can see. Best regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:02, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Well the script should do nothing to the speed since it does not really load "some stuff". --MGA73 (talk) 19:23, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Note

Thanks for explaining the script. By the way. I filed a DR on this old low resolution panoramio image. Feel free to read my reasons. You can vote to keep, delete or abstaining from voting if you wish. After all, I'm from Canada. The state doesn't fine people for not voting...unlike Australia. Best wishes, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:17, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Good. I think we should start DR's for the remaining images from Panoramio to end this cleanup. If I stay away from the DR's for seven days I can close it :-) --MGA73 (talk) 19:36, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
