I spoke about it yesterday with the administrator Bapti who said it would be the same for pictures destinated only to french wikipedia. I agreed to return to the initial licence and he restored the picture. Bech (talk) 09:42, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really understand what you are saying. If we take the mural as a work of art, then it is copyrighted by the one who made it, even if we don't know him. As it is surely not >130 years, we cannot assume the painter/artist is dead since 70 years. As to my knowledge there is no Freedom of panorama in France. Therefore, this image is still copyrighted and to publish or upload it to Commons is a copyvio. --Túrelio (talk) 12:22, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Merci pour ton petit mot. N'hésitez-pas à me contacter si tu as besoin d'aide à l'avenir.--Bapti 16:56, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Pay attention to copyright
File:Michaël Delafosse en 2020.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Data for Circumcision map?[edit]

Re: File:Circumcision Prevalence using red for the most circumcising countries.svg

I also challenge this file: I am thus contacting you before nominating it for deletion.

Where did you get this data from? (Yes, I have read the blogspot. And e.g. this.).

Ping @Vargmali and Magog the Ogre from its history.

Bows

Zezen (talk) 14:13, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the data for Albania comes from this 2017-2018 DHS study and not the blog. I am not sure if the map reflects it on the other countries, but this 2016 study can be used as a source for the other countries, as I think it includes data from all countries. --Vargmali (talk) 20:44, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As to me, my main work was to build this svg file from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Global_Map_of_Male_Circumcision_Prevalence_at_Country.svg I agree colors of this first file were not well chosen but changing them produces color conflicts. So I prefered doing other versions with the color choice indicated in the filename. Il is possible to take one of this file to build the others with a script. But I did few changes of colors in countries. Of course, it is easier to avoid mistakes if the same color is used for 21% and 79% as it is for the World Health organisation version. But this version is really too few informative. Bech (talk) 21:40, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your factual responses. I am satisfied with sources such as this DHS study, and especially that 2016 study which discusses its methodology and caveats in depth. In fact, I suggest we use the latter only, with that erratum. As per the table:
United States 71.2
Tunisia -> 99.8
so the resulting map should graduate these (maybe via a sine -> color density function?) Otherwise in File:Circumcision Prevalence using red for the most circumcising countries.svg or File:Circumcision Prevalence using a gray scale.svg USA looks the same as Tunisia at first (and second) sight.
I leave yous to it then, ping @Vargmali, and will not nominate it for deletion, as you know what to do.

Dear @Bech and @Vargmali
Alas, I cannot see any reaction since my alert last month.
Please see also a related comment about gradation of a similar map here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Democracy_Index#Color_in_Tables/Map, so let me ping @Superb Owl as they seem to be an expert.
Will yous thus fix this map accordingly, please?
Bows Zezen (talk) 19:32, 14 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is technically possible (anf easy with a text editor) to replace green by blue. But the problem is to avoid suggesting 50 % of circumcision and around is the best (not too cold, not too warm, as a blue to red scale is used for temperature). Bech (talk) 19:18, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is another map with red for the less circumcising countries and blue for the most. For this file, that is a long time "Colour needs to be changed" is indicated. But when changing colors, changes were reverted. If the subject was democracy, wealth or pollution, it wouldn't shock many people to choose red for the less democratic countries, the poorest or the most polluted. But when the subject is circumcision, several people or movements want to promote it (and sometimes make money with it, especially in the United States of America). Those may not appreciate to see countries circumcising the most in red. But for some other people, putting the most respectful of the children's bodies countries in red is just as shocking. As a single version cannot satisfy everyone, the best is to put several versions and indicating the color choice in the filename is the best way to avoid color editing conflicts. In my opinion, the most neutral map for this subject is the grayscale one. Of course, if there are several versions, it requires more updating (which can be done easily with a text editor for the first file and a sed-based converter to regenerate the others). Bech (talk) 20:40, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fascinating. Do not forget that in e.g. China red=auspicious.
In my humble and naive opinion, as long as this file has the proper gradation as per this, the ideal, "PC", neutrality is not an issue.
Also, do ping me when you decide one way or another, so that I do not need to monitor the individual projects that are using it now.

Well, there are strange things about Wikimedia licenses. The first time I uploaded a picture I did myself on Wikimedia, it was refused because a CC-BY-SA-NC license was not accepted. Few days after I met somebody who told me he was Wikipedia administrator and that the problem was due to NC clause. So I put it on CC-BY-SA license, but it did not prevent me to find unfair the choice of Wikimedia to impose people who do a work for free to allow them, or anybody else in the world, to make money with this work. I would certainly spend more time creating photos for Wikipedia articles if CC-BY-SA-NC license was proposed, and I would certainly not be the only one.
Now for Travian screenshots :
  1. Travian Games allows to use pictures from their websites if there is an indication saying theses pictures belong to Travian Games, and if this websites don't try to get money by any way.
  2. Wikipedia and similar websites as vikidia.org don't oblige people to pay something to access their content and don't also contain advertising in any form.
So, there should be a way to use pictures from Travian Games on Wikipedia and similar websites. I spent time to search a good license and as it is necessary to use a predefined tag, I found the {{Attribution|....}} one. But why does it includes this boring and liberticidal (because restricting authors choices) commercial use, and all other use is permitted. mention ?
If there is an alternative tag only saying it belongs to ... without authorizing commercial use, just put it instead, or if you don't have the required write access, tell me what change to do. It will be a more clever attitude than for File:Cathode_ray_tube_diagram_fr.svg which was just a translation of File:Cathode_ray_tube_diagram-en.svg but was deleted because as I could not access the wikicode of the English file license declaration, I had to put one, a work I did honestly, but the result did not please somebody.
If there is presently no tag available to give Travian screenshots the correct user license, the question is why. It is not a question for Wikimedia administrators who just have to apply rules created by others but for Wikimedia managers. Bech (talk) 17:21, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
