Carillon in Bruges[edit]

Hi. Many thanks for your answer. I understand what you mean. Unfortunately the man in yellow with blue hat is... the musician, playing the carillon. Impossible to delete (if I do that, you'll never hear the "March" of "Saul" by GF Handel ;)  ! ) The instrument and the man were carried in a "chariot" by horses, during a religious procession... But finally I agree with your opinion. Best regards. --Jebulon (talk) 21:29, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Have been doing a few borobudur cats (in process - if you would like me to explain - can do) I reckon any of the KIT/Tropen red links will probably be cleaned up by a bot - or that is my impression - I am doing Borobudur material by hand as there are so many quirks (Hindu monument, etc etc) - cheers SatuSuro (talk) 01:19, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that Borobudur is not a category to be filled - the sub cats are currently in process - please check that when allocating - cheers SatuSuro (talk) 01:23, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, was only browsing for spectacular images, and only "by the way" using HotCat, wasn't intending to organise all the KIT images... :). Looks like there is still a lot of work to be done to organize them all... and there are so many DUPCATs. That particular Borobudur image you talk about, I was just moving upwards from a non-Borobudur category, sorry for not looking for the right subcat, and thanks for doing that for me. --Elekhh (talk) 01:35, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nah dont worry it is all in the right direction , I did my honours thesis many many many moons ago partially about the place  :( - Yeah I am sort of wondering what to suggest about the Boro dupes - I aint touching as yet - I am simply honing in on main sub cats and then - hopefully trying the idea of a range of sub cats again into eras - the main stupa is a brilliant indicator of 1873, 1890, 1910, or 1976 - but hey a long way off yet - have to find the odd images in the oddest of places SatuSuro (talk) 01:55, 23 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tropenmuseum images[edit]

Please cleanup where possible! - any item I translate - hey I cannot believe some of the stuff we are cleaning up - the resrouce continues to amaze me - cheers SatuSuro (talk) 22:57, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, is a great win for Wiki to receive this vast donation. And I am surprized it hasn't been really discovered yet by most editors - very few of these are in use on Wikipedias (mostly English and French, but almost none elsewhere). My strategy at the moment is to scan-through and place the best images I find into relevant Wiki article on the Indonesian, English, French and German Wikipedias (already did quite a few). I hope this will attract the attention of more editors, and their involvement in sorting out the category mess at commons. This means I am not so much focused on doing a thorough job at commons, I merely do what I can, while in search for the best images. Hope we'll see soon more people around to speed up the process. --Elekhh (talk) 23:33, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am going very slowly mainly through places that I know from personal experience (dont ever let me start about taman sari though - that would have to be off-wiki comments there) - and will eventually link to en wp - but I could forget about real life when I get onto some lines of images - there are ones that leave me amazed - to see some places and people in the perspective from the photos - wow there are so many clues to things for articles that I had never even dreamt about at wp en SatuSuro (talk) 01:37, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spain, Emperor Charles V Palace[edit]

Hello. You're right with your comments about my photographs of this Palace (QIC). The first with the ceiling is evidently overexposured. For the second with the stormy sky, If the columns are cropped, it's because of...tourists. Nevermind, I like this "three parts" image with this strange curved roof. Neither the ceiling nor the roof were photographed by me for Commons at this time (last summer). A lot of my photos are ancient pictures, not enough descriptive or encyclopedic, in the "Commons" spirit, I know that... But I'm happy to be technically criticized (especially by you, I like your "eye"). Many thanks, and best regards from Paris.--Jebulon (talk) 22:45, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, hope you take my frank critique lightly. It is always easier to judge an image than to take really good pictures, and in that last regard you're defeating me 28:2 so far :). --Elekhh (talk) 22:53, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kelud vs Mount Kelud vs Gunung Kelud[edit]

I have missed something - but I thought the naming convention was the mount kelut, at least that is what happens at wp en - with the aka in the lead sentence for 'gunung' - same with Merapi and all the rest - however if you know something I dont - please let me know - i am not sure if cfd/renaming is as fractious here as it is on wp en - but I would suggest care with naming new cats - always worth checking against what the others are called - again - maybe we are looking at different examples - please forgive me if i am wrong :) SatuSuro (talk) 10:39, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Upps, I think you're right... sorry. On top of that there is a Category: Kelud I haven't noticed. I should take a break. Can you help moving both to Mount Kelud ? --Elekhh (talk) 10:44, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
gawks I feel that the break thing is under-exercised, I should have more of them - I havent been through the cfd stuff here - I might just put em all in the cat kelud - and then request a speedy of the gunung - I would have left it as a redirect if it was en - but they seem to be low on redirects here - im off for a bit but will do this pm my time - sorry to have been a nuisance - SatuSuro (talk) 10:52, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Kelud is fine with me. It would match the English Wiki name. --Elekhh (talk) 10:56, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done - the moving into the 'Kelud' name - at least a start SatuSuro (talk) 13:41, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, many thanks! I actually tought that admins would have some special tool for moving the categories, if I would have known you think of doing it with HotCat should have corrected my errors myself. I placed a redirect to Gunung Kelud since this is the Indonesian name and is likely to be searched for, following instructions at Commons:Rename a category. --Elekhh (talk) 20:57, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nah considering the Kelut crater was one of the favourites of the dutch engineers thinking they could actually save the issue by the tunnel and the monitoring the crater (hence the buildings in odd places) - I had never actually seen any photos and had read about the subject only - a good personal experience! Hi! In regards to File:DouglassESYellowstoneAcademyHoustonTX.JPG - Cayambe said that the image had "Heavy chromatic aberration in the tree at left. Also needs perspective correction." - I asked him how to correct this stuff, but he didn't respond. How do I correct those items? I am not experienced with using graphics manipulation software.

FPC careless reviews[edit]

Hi Elekhh,

You may be interested in participating in this_discussion. Cheers, Alvesgaspar (talk) 16:07, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You voted to support this. I can only presume you haven't thouight this through:

Consider:

  • Those that nominate good FPs must wait 10 days to nominate again.
  • Those that noiminate bad FPCs need only wait 5 days (Rule of fifth day closure) or even just 1-2 days (FPX).

This means that the spammers will be able to put out more than the good contributors at a rate of as much as 10 to 1 in the worst cases.

Further, it's not unusual for potential FPCs to get finished in batches. A photographer comes back from vacation, or a restorationist finishes several projects in a burst of enthusiasm.

This proposal would force people to work on a timescale lengthy enough to kill all enthusiasm.

It gets worse:

This gives a strong disincentive against nominating work by anyone but yourself. People who go through and select high-quality works by others are usually to be praised, however, this proposal causes them to be punished.

I would ask that you reconsider your vote, and consider options 2 or 5, which are more restrictions than are currently in place, and which may always be built upon or increased later. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:50, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've come across this crazy looking map made with errors which goes against the 4 CIA ethnolinguistic maps. I was wondering if you can delete this now or leave a comment on it. I hate seeing maps made with missing ethnic groups.

This map is not helpful but instead creating huge problems. Someone with political agenda created this map which washes away some ethnic groups and makes another group smaller and this leads to uprisings by some ethnic groups in Afghanistan when their leaders see this online. This is why deadly attacks on western forces in Afghanistan are on the rise because some of those Afghans think that they are being ethnic cleansed by the western armies. If you are a westerner, you are putting your own soldiers at risk.--Officer (talk) 20:17, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trash bin in church Saint Etienne du Mont ?[edit]

Hi Elekhh !
You are absolutely right !
There was a trash bin here, just below of the pillar !
The municipality of Paris is building here a new platform for the altar, and the work is not finished. There is dust, many marble blocks, plastic covers, masonry tools and... a trash bin ! And as you can see elsewhere, I think that trash bins are disturbing compos a bit (but notice that it's not enough to decline)... I'll try tomorrow to take a new pic with the bottom for you (but on sunday... not sure it's possible.) Friendly, --Jebulon (talk) 20:53, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I m gettinga little perturbed by Nature in Indonesiabeing given to the two trees in the Yogya kraton northern alun alun - I can think of nothing less connected to nature- and the actual building of the kraton in the photo takes up less than 10 % - I would have thought the alun alun category should replace the buildings and nature cats -what do you thnk? Nah historiographically - the photos by decade and by photographer is sort of the 'big outline' that I had hoped for when I started (comparing kinsbergen's photos with cephas with later one - you can see the degradation over time) - I had even fantasised about creating a wp en portal for boroburdur - with links to photos of all the parts and so on - but - real life has intervened - maybe next year - it will take months to do properly :( SatuSuro (talk) 12:34, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Russian wartime copyright extension[edit]

While I don't really care about these 2024 and 2020 cats, you are not right about Russian wartime copyright extension -- it adds 4 years to 70 years, not to 50 -- see Part IV of the Civil Code, Article 1281 (in Russian, I can't find an English translation, but Google Translate is good enough for this). After weekend[edit]

Hellish busy this weekend - will try to answer by the end of the weekend - havent time to check it out - cheers SatuSuro (talk) 10:28, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK got my itineraries mixed up - and have been creating havoc with cats on wp en - I reckon the animals are the only ones I would support deleting - I tend to think that current political boundaries and geographic forms are a reasonable parameter for assisting in search methods (viz my creating southeast asian landforms and rivers categories on wp en tonight) - the animals are indeed disturbing in a sense - but the rest I think I could give a reasonable defence of if required - so yes I would support the deletion of the empty animal ones. please email me if you want a very complicated answer for the landforms that cross political boundaries - cheers SatuSuro (talk) 15:30, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes and that too - I am quite bamboozled by the possible circuitous route to unravel asia related templates and categories on wp en - which is why I see the larger categories and templates as cumbersome and quite problematic - but its all in the finer structure of the category trees that might be the solution - i think SatuSuro (talk) 05:32, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Elekhh, strange enough, but there are no valuable images of Place d'Armes (which is in the very centre of my home town) in the rather large collection of pictures in my possession. I am genuinely concerned about negative feedback being perceived as honest and informed critique, and am disappointed when this is misunderstood or misrepresented. You know that I am aware of the rarity of the depicted phenomenon, yet I also have the right to form my view on the overall merits of the image. To be clear: I definitely did not "claim that the image is not rare", and my oppose was not based on such an assumption. Best regards. --Elekhh (talk) 02:32, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination in FPC[edit]

Hi Elekhh.
I have a  Question
I'm not sure about the rules of the "celebration/festival" (very good idea, indeed !)
Please have a look on FPC page.
According to you, may I now (18 dec.) nominate one of my own pictures ? (no more active own nominations, but two active nominations of pictures of other authors ?)
Thank you.--Jebulon (talk) 00:33, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
