Image deletion warning Some of your uploaded images have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these images, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Purging help

Every image that I have uploaded today seems to need purging, but using the purge tab does not seem to help. Is there something I am doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Mattinbgn/talk 05:50, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... that is odd. I take it the problem is that the images aren't displaying? (I randomly looked at Image:BerriganRomanCatholicPresbytery.JPG.) I'd try uploading again and seeing if that fixes it... =\ —Giggy 09:56, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seems it's not just you: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Attention#Image can not be rendered. —Giggy 11:08, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ENI-number

I tried to help in categorising barges by country, but obviously the wrong way. Your comment gives: potential gallery. How and by whom has this gallery to be constructed. --Stunteltje (talk) 11:42, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This can be constructed by anyone, it's just important that it is created as just that; an image gallery, not a data table. For instance, photos of the ENI-numbers on different ships. The data itself would be more appropriate on a different project. —Giggy 20:00, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Usurping update?

Is there any update on SUL usurpations of accounts with a few edits. I have a request currently languishing on Commons:Changing username/unfulfilled requests with no comment for a number of months. Is there any update on policy changes about this? I notice there has been no discussion since the April one on the Village Pump. The User I wish to usurp has 3 edits (Woody (talk · contribs)). Any update on this (if there is one) would be welcomed. Thanks and regards. Woodym555 (talk) 01:10, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Woody. The comments I made at that page were before I became a 'crat; since then the way we do things has changed somewhat.
Anyways, my suggestion would that you email him (if he has it enabled). I see you left a talk page note too. If there is no response within a week, I'll make the rename, and you'll have to put a notice on your User:Woody userpage that those three uploads were made by someone else (as well as a link to the usurped username).
You might want to copy this discussion over to Commons:Changing username/usurp requests. Cheers. —Giggy 02:23, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Global blocking, en.wikinews

Hey Giggy, hope you don't mind but I borrowed your text and idea/edits from Commons:Administrators' Noticeboard#Global blocking is live for use at en.wikinews (see n:WN:AAA). Your wording was appropriate as well as your edits, so I saw no need to change anything. Hope that's okay. Cheers, Cirt (talk) 12:38, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem! You might want to keep an eye on m:Talk:Global blocking#Question on local wiki unblocking too. —Giggy 12:41, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help, please

Hi Giggy. I am having some trouble getting help with two images I uploaded last weekend. I left a message at Commons:Help desk, which seems to be have been ignored and then when the description was deleted (without any notice to me, I might add), my request for a explanation from the deleting administrator seems to have been snubbed. I do not know the ways of commons very well, is there somewhere else I need to go to have my questions answered? Or is it a case of questions on commons? ur doing it wrong? -- Mattinbgn/talk 22:48, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Matt; the issue with this one was that no file was uploaded; there was just the image description page. In other words, there was no image there. Hence, Rocket deleted it as "Image page without media" which is a common deletion criteria in cases where there... isn't any media. If you still have the file, your best bet is to reupload it (doing so with the same name should be fine) and ensure the file uploads this time. Cheers. —Giggy 04:48, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Strange! I seen the image also but could be possible something happened the other day when Commons had an issue (I've lost some photos which came from Flickr that did upload). Bidgee (talk) 07:32, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was a bit surprised to see it deleted since I thought I had seen an image there too. —Giggy 07:34, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't have it as I uploaded direct from my SD card and removed it from the card when I was running out of space. It was cached on my userpage for a while as a thumbnail but when the bot removed it as a deleted image, that disappeared as well. Shame, it was one of my better photos and I don't know when I will be back in Hay next; not for some time I wouldn't think. Thanks anyway. -- Mattinbgn/talk 09:44, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pmontaldo

Dear Giggy: You deleted all the images I uploaded in Commons. You might have doubts about the licencing of some of them, but others were authentically my own work. I am not a criminal and I have no intention to steal anything nor to damage Wikipedia.--Pmontaldo (talk) 22:28, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. Unfortunately, Pmontaldo, the images were clear copyright violations. Please take a look at Commons:Licensing. Cheers. —Giggy 01:28, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrights from MSN

Hi, Giggy. I just noticed youd eleted theses images. I understando that Commons doesn't allow fair-use. And I think you just mistaken what I said on theses images. They are not from MSN, they are more used there. At leats here in Brazil. Just check at MSN or ask some friend of yours to check and you'll see that those images don't belong to MSN and any onther messengers. They are PD as the other smilies we got here. Mizunoryu 大熊猫❤小熊猫 (talk) 14:35, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mizunoryu. The thing is, if you got these images from MSN (and if not, where did you get them from?), then they are copyrighted and the deletions were correct. You might want to read our licensing policy for a better understanding of this sort of thing. Regards. —Giggy 23:44, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate it. I'm gonna abstain on that request for now. If it's unsuccessful, best of luck in any future requests. You do great work. Please keep it up. —Giggy 10:04, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After all, I'm a human being and I made some errors. But, by standing here and hading admitted my errors and, also, asking for forgiving is a wat to clean it up. In the talk that I had in Portuguese with Patrícia, she said what it goes, it goes, meaning to forget this issue. I am really a good person. When I was 9 or 10 years old, a baby who was in our nanny's house, where she took care of several kids from several parents, had died. I had feel sad for him. It was at the lunch time and I had to go to school on the afternoon. When I arrived at school, my teacher had seen me cry and asked me if anyone had hurt me. I said no, that nobody had hurt me, and I said that a baby had died. I was crying for him, although he was not my family, thinking about the happy baby he was and how much time of living he lost having few months old. Today, after pasted 10 years, I still cry for him when I remember it. This shows how much I care for people. But I'm hurt because some other problems. When Patrícia kept asking me questions by confronting me my actions, it had made me remember what I had been through for about 20 years. Too much, isn't it? Some wounds are hard to heal. For that, I had responded badly to Patrícia, although I didn't wanted to. For my recognizing my attitude was wrong, I asked Patrícia to forgive me and explain it to her. Patrícia gave me strong when she said she notice that my behaviour here was better then I had in Wikipedia and by saying if I keep the good work, a month or two from now I could make another RfA and pass this and became an admin. I was thinking about 3 months but if she passed that time I will be prepared, I guess I believe in what she said. Sorry if I took too much time by writing this! Best regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 01:46, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ouch. Some wounds take time to heal, indeed. I hope yours does one day. And yes, if you keep it up you will pass an RfA here soon. I'll nominate you in a month or two if you keep doing good work. But don't worry about it. It's not a big deal either way. Best wishes, Giggy (talk) 02:33, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That image is a copyright violation, as there is no indication given at the source given that the image is licensed under Creative Commons. I just deleted an article on WP about that website as a copyvio. I'm posting on your talk page because I don't know basically anything about speedy deletion here on Commons. Cheers, and thanks for your time. J.delanoygabsadds 02:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Can you tell me please how i must handle images in this cat: Category:Unsourced Flickr images reviewed by FlickreviewR. There are very much images in it.

Cheers, Sterkebaktalk 08:39, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. These images are generally tagged with {{Nsd}} as they have no source. Thus Flickrreviewr can't find them and can't check them on Flickr. If you can find a source for the image (on Flickr) then feel free to add the source and do the Flickrreview. If you can't find a source, then ignore them, and they're generally deleted after about 7 days along with all the other no source images. Cheers, Giggy (talk) 08:44, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shrugs. You win some, you lose some. You just lost this one. Giggy (talk) 07:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I read your opinion but there is a new aspect: "Official Star Wars.com blog" site has moved and is placed now at the official Star Wars film domain address: http://starwarsblog.starwars.com. See the term in the end of this site: "© Lucasfilm 2008. All rights reserved". So if it is true, they have the permision from Lucasfilm to work. And if they have published some photos on Flickr with the CC permission it is the CC permission done from Lucasfim, too. So you delete CC arts. Congratulations... Regards Electron (talk) 11:45, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Electron. As was explained in the deletion request, the fact that it says all rights reserves means just that; all rights to the images are still owned by Lucasfilm. The Star Wars blog is granted permission to use the images on their site, but that doesn't mean the images have a different license applied to them. If there are Stars Wars blog images posted on Flickr where Lucasfilm hasn't stated that CC permission is granted, then Flickr is hosting copyvios. Only when Lucasfilm says the images are CC will we accept them here.
Incidentally, the sarcasm is appreciated. Regards. Giggy (talk) 12:02, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You may be interested to read this commentary about the UK case Lucasfilm v Ainsworth which was published a few days before you closed the DR. You can find the full judgement here. "Empty category or gallery"

  1. Do you look at what links to things before deleting them
  2. It has to be a category or a gallery to exist here? The "rule" is no articles, I thought....
  3. If another admin deleted something and it was restored, how do you manage this information (or even do you look into that)?

-- carol (talk) 19:19, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Rarely. Clicking a link and being transported to an empty page is somewhat useless.
So you do not know if the "page" had its contents removed (perhaps maliciously)? Also, the "links to" shows what links to that thing, and removing it just leaves a red link -- you knew that, didn't you? (There is perhaps a fact that I am sorry that I try to take care of all of that when requesting a deletion or a rename to an image because now there are admin who don't do any of that.)
  2. Um, yeah... other than an article, category, or gallery, what else are we talking about?
Something which was not an article, category or gallery yet very useful here.
  3. I check deletion logs and take note of restorations.
This was remade and not restored because 1)time moves on more quickly than admin answer their talk pages 2)the restoration of similar things occurred and I have some questions about the reasons that not all of those things were restored then.
Now, what in particular are you talking about? Giggy (talk) 23:17, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously something that you deleted that was not an article, gallery or category. Perhaps something whose contents had been blanked before you deleted and something which should have been restored at the same while that other similar pages were being restored. Oh, and something that you did not check the "links to" or even the categorization of. -- carol (talk) 23:57, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you should provide a link. Giggy (talk) 03:05, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but first and seriously, lets look at how the administrator works. The fact that you are again with the question means that my evaluation of your answers is accurate? -- carol (talk) 06:51, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Typing about the "scope" is kind of easy. Can you summarize "scope" as you understand it? Should be more than one word.... -- carol (talk) 11:58, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Carol, I have no interest in playing your hypothetical word games. If you do not have a specific issue you would like to discuss, I have nothing to respond to. Giggy (talk) 22:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a look at this! --Leyo 01:44, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Giggy, the roflbot images I requested for deletion were kept due to your comment. As it is the only real comment in favor of keeping the images, I am curious what makes you think that the images are free. I'm unsure whether you read the comment I added later: These images are from the Random image generator of the roflbot, thus the initial source of the images (at least as far as I could track them) is the roflbot website. The flickr derivates created by the user are already with text, thus they cannot be the source of the roflbot images. I really think, that these have to go, as we neither have permission from the roflbot owner nor an explanation from Swatjester about the origin of these images and their licensing status. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 20:18, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Firstly, sorry I didn't reply to you on the DR... it seemss to have fallen off my watchlist. So no, I didn't see your later comment until now. =\
I clicked the link you provided 3 times and got Image:Lolchicken.jpg (linky). That probably proves wrong my theory. I had assumed Swat got them from Flickr since that's where he uploaded them to afterwards. I pretty much AGF'd on his part (he's a legal intern or something like that for the WMF, too, so I assumed he had some copyright knowledge).
Anyway, I've pinged him about this, see if he has anything to add. At the moment it seems I'm wrong and you're right. Giggy (talk) 23:17, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As I understand it, the images on Roflbot are free in the first place, which is what allows people to use derivatives of the images via the ROFLbot text. It's been a long while since I made those images, so my recollection is a bit hazy as to whether they were roflbot's original images (which I'm pretty sure are free, he talks about somewhere on the site that they were donated to him), or stuff I found elsewhere on the web.. Swatjester (talk) 12:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As a followup, clicking through the images I found a photo from NASA, and a picture of the Mona Lisa on there, so again, I don't think ROFLbot is claiming ownership of anything on the images. Swatjester (talk) 12:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He states, that some images were donated to him. That does not mean, that he releases the images under a free license. I searched the page and could not find anything indicating that the images are free. Only the fact, that he is allowing people to make derivatives of them, does not mean, that they are really free. -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 12:46, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, consider that the last two images that I found on there were clearly public domain (the mona lisa, and a NASA picture). That's a pretty strong indication of the free status of the collected images. Swatjester (talk) 13:01, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it is a hint that the images could be free. However, on Commons you need some kind of evidence that an image is free. Just assuming that it's free because it is on a page with other free images is not quite what I consider evidence. -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 21:02, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Starting another DR might be a good idea, if you can't reach agreement here. Both arguments have some merit and I'd be interested to see what other arguments people would bring up. Giggy (talk) 23:38, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I reopened the old one. Please participate. Regards, -- ChrisiPK (Talk|Contribs) 12:09, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a look at this! --Leyo 01:44, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. I've restored it now, and am not really sure what to do with it at the moment... Giggy (talk) 02:26, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Will wait on the outcome of Commons:Deletion requests/Logo of the African Union.svg. Giggy (talk) 02:27, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fix up

Could you please fix this for me? Thanks Shii (talk) 01:28, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done, and no. :P Giggy (talk) 01:35, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BAD DOG!!! -- carol (talk) 07:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You know Carol, I do watchlist Lar's talk page. Was it too difficult to ask about List of Euphorbiaceae genera, rather than playing hypotheticals and wasting your time with silly attempts at parodising my username (or whatever that's supposed to be)? Especially since I invited you to ask?
If you don't have an issue with something I've actually done (or if you do, but for whatever reason don't want to say what you're talking about), then please stay off this page. Giggy (talk) 11:57, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

For the help with the Spaniels - heh, issues come out of nowhere! Never even thought about it. --David Shankbone (talk) 14:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. Giggy (talk) 23:39, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks too ;-)

Hi Giggy, thank you very much for closing the exhausting deletion request for my penis renders. And thanks for kept them ;-) . Please, tell me the unspoken joke about the images, I like to know it... Bernhard Ungerer (talk) 15:18, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it would have worked better if they were photos and not renders... but something about keeping some top quality penis pics... :-) Giggy (talk) 23:39, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hi Giggy -- you may know me from en: (I'm the one who wrote that annoying page on people's behavior). Could you do me a favor? I'm being stalked/harassed by a banned user (the "George Reeves Person" on en) -- would you please semi-protect my user and talk pages here? I'm getting tired of the vandalism from this obsessive psychotic. Thanks, Antandrus (talk) 21:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. (More like, the awesome page on behaviour!) Let me know if you need any more help. Giggy (talk) 23:34, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

:)

Much appreciated. The interface is truly bonkers and bizarro; if Wikimedia blows up, it was probably me. ;) Regards, Эlcobbola talk 01:47, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for the note, Giggy. ;-) . - Rjd0060 (talk) 14:10, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
