Hello, Wiki.0hlic!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

File:Qatar diplomatic crisis.svg[edit]

Hi Could you change the color of Libya or delete it because Thani government is not internationaly recognized and the internationaly government of Libya is not opposed to Qatar. --Panam2014 (talk) 21:26, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

could you add Senegal and delete Mauritius ? --Panam2014 (talk) 18:13, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello.
In the File:Qatar diplomatic crisis.svg Libya was removed (likely unintentially). Can you please put it back. Niger has also withdrawn its ambassador from Qatar, which needs to be colored in pink. Please see sources for further confirmation.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 31.200.10.139 (talk) 01:01, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Map for Elections[edit]

Hi. Just wondering if you could create a blank map for the general elections on the new delimitations? Regards, Masterpha (talk) 18:06, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, Masterpha. But I am waiting for ECP to release an official map that I can work off of. Presently only preliminary district maps are available. There are no maps for the final delims nor a country-wide map. As soon as I get either, I will get to work on building a NA map. If ECP doesn't upload by the end of June, I will make one myself using the prelim maps' boundaries and the old NA one. Best. Wiki.0hlic (talk) 22:09, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

National assembly constituencies map[edit]

Hello there. I am from Pakistan. Recently, I saw your work at Wikimedia Commons related to vector graphics of KPK assembly, Balochistan assembly 2002 elections result map. Your work is really admirable. I have also contributed to the Wikimedia Commons by creating vector graphics of national assembly constituencies map and 2002, 2008, 2013 general elections results map. I wanted to ask you how did you create these maps? Are you familiar with using Google Maps for formatting constituencies boundaries? Can you help me in this regard? And are you working on the recent delimitation? --User:asadwarraich
My work is as follows:
National assembly constituencies
2008 general elections
2013 general elections
2002 general elections

@Asadwarraich: , thank you for the appreciation and apologies for the delay in getting back to you (Eid holidays!). Your work is quite good as well and is what inspired me to take up mapping of the provincial legislatures. I work in Inkscape using ECP sources and a district level map. I am not familiar with demarcating constituencies using Google Maps. However, upon your mentioning I did a quick Google Search and apparently a Singaporean has done something similar not quite long ago. As for Custom Maps on Google, they can be created here. Hope this helps.
I would love to create a map of the new delims, but I am currently very busy on a work project. It is difficult for me to squeeze out the time. So, if you have the time and resources at hand to create a map of the 2018 delims like you did earlier for the 2002 ones, please feel free to go ahead! Wiki.0hlic (talk) 21:36, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Asadwarraich: - any updates regarding the map? - Wiki.0hlic (talk) 11:48, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wiki.0hlic: - Sorry for replying you so late. I was busy in final semester exams. That's why I couldn't find time for working on the electoral maps. Yesterday, while surfing through a newspaper, I saw the 2018 election electoral map. But the problem is that map is on Google Maps and it can't be vectorized easily as image tracing on Illustrator is a big-time problem. Here is the link, check it out. --Asadwarraich (talk) 10:18, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And one more thing, as I've free time till Elections. So, I'll try to vectorize as many constituencies as I can using the ECP Delimitation Maps. I'll send you all the data I'd compile. Firstly, I'm starting from Islamabad constituencies and then I'd go for KPK constituencies. Let's divide the work. In the meanwhile, you should vectorize the Balochitan's contituencies. What do you think? --Asadwarraich (talk) 10:29, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Asadwarraich: - I had been actually using the same Dawn map for vectorization purposes. I am actually done with almost the whole map. Areas with high constituency density like Lahore, Karachi, Faislabad, and Rawalpindi are the only ones that remain. Also, with the individual vectorization of the ECP maps, wouldn't it be counterintuitive since we have one complete vector map that can easily be broken down into individual constituencies? - Wiki.0hlic (talk) 18:43, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wiki.0hlic: Is it possible that you can share your inkscape file? I am interested in converting that to GIS shapefile. --Yasirhussain (talk) 19:50, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Yasirhussain: - Link to file.

Map based on latest delimitation[edit]

Based on the latest delimitation by the ECP, I've started making the electoral map of National assembly constituencies. Hopefully, work will be completed by Monday or Tuesday night. Will upload the work here once complete--Asadwarraich --Asadwarraich (talk) 12:47, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Asadwarraich: - I am almost done with it myself! I had been working on it since it became available on Dawn around Friday. I think you should focus on the individual constituency vectorization using ECP maps (if it is worth your time) until I upload the final map here which we can then finetune together. - Wiki.0hlic (talk) 18:46, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please proceed with your map @Asadwarraich: - I am running into some very stubborn rendering issues on mine. Somehow upon saving and reopening in Inkscape, all the details of the tracing are simplified - particularly on the bends. Don't think a map like that is worth it. - Wiki.0hlic (talk) 22:06, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm working on the same Dawn map and have completed KPK, Punjab and some part of Balochistan. I'm using Illustrator and giving very keen consideration to each and every corner. Saw your reply today and the map too. Your map is awesome. Could you send me your file so that I can see your map in detail and compare it with mine, and check whether I should go further in my map or not. --Asadwarraich (talk) 19:21, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Secondly, it is a very hectic job to convert each and every constituency into the vector using ECP final delimitation maps and would require a lot of time. I'm afraid I won't be free after Elections at all because I'm also working on final year project which requires some time and perhaps, won't have enough time for this. So, I'll try to complete the Dawn map as soon as I can and send you the file at your email (Please provide your email) or upload it at Wikimedia Commons so that you can yourself see and compare your map with mine. With mutual understanding, we'd select the best one. Ok? :) --Asadwarraich (talk) 19:26, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Asadwarraich: - Individual constituency vectorization through ECP maps is a secondary exercise, which I believe is not necessary. Lets just stick with converting the Dawn map. I am fairly certain, after seeing your work on the 2013 map, that you would do a great job (just try to get it ready before elections! :p). I am running into issues with mine, and the small border details get simplified into polygons/triangles upon saving. I don't think my map, in its current state, will be of any help to you but I have sent it to your email nonetheless. Best, - Wiki.0hlic (talk) 19:59, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
