Bot glitch?

Hi. I noted that in this edit, the bot added the interwiki for nl, but removed most of the other interwikis at the same time. You might wish to check that. Thanks, -- Infrogmation 13:27, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I just did a interwiki run of the category namespace at the nl wikipedia, so interwiki's are supposted to be up to date. This category just got created and not all the interwiki links are propagated yet. Still have to build in some checking for that. Multichill 13:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
As in category:Huldenberg, I noticed again now for category:Leuven that the bot has deleted many links to wikis in other languages. Please check all the categories the bot has "attacked" for deletions. Note that the interwikis mentioned in nl are not always complete and sometimes a wrong link to an other wiki is given. When I happen to encounter it, I correct/add. Success. Wouter 21:30, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
You are mixing up namespaces. The article links should be at Leuven. The category links are at Category:Leuven. Multichill 02:14, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
I can confirm that this bot appears to delete stuff in error. Example: It just removed trałowiec from Category:Minesweepers. If you are trying to force Categories in Commons to be linked only to Categories rather than Pages in Wikis, you will wreck the connection. The idea of links from Commons to Wikis is to provide a link to at least something language-specific - if the Category does not exist in the target language but a Page does, a link to a Page is better than nothing. You can't expect every Page to have an equivalent Category. In this example, information about Minesweepers. Please stop running it and fix it. Rod. Rcbutcher 06:10, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Again you deleted links. I noticed it in Category:Naarden. Please read what Rod wrote. The idea of links from Commons to Wikis is to provide a link to at least something language-specific. The user of Commons is not interested whether it is category or something else. He/she is searching for information. Please stop running it and restore the deletions in all the categories the bot has treated. Wouter 08:41, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

There is indeed no clear 1 to 1 mapping between commons-categories and wikipedia-categories. The reason is the projects are indeed a bit different. In commons, categories got more and more important and used (more than gallery pages), so categories got indeed the starting point to start navigating through a certain subject. This is in contrast to wikipedia, where articles are the starting point and the most important. So links between commons categories and wikipedia categories are indeed great when they are available. But indeed, the link between wikipedia articles and commons categories makes as much sense. That's exactly where {commonscat} templates are also very frequently used on wikipedia articles (in various language)...--LimoWreck 22:12, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

See also this edit, where links to Wikipedia categories were deleted. Thanks, mattbr 18:32, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
