Ach, das ist mir nicht soo wichtig. Natürlich habe ich mir Mühe mit der Motivauswahl gegeben und die Kamera schön gerade gehalten (und mich über den schönen Himmel gefreut), aber letztendlich muss man auch festhalten: Ich bin kein Fotograf. Continent for en:Trinidad and Tobago

I thought the same thing as well, but the Wikidata item lists its continent as "South America" and the Wikipedia article states that it lies ~7 miles off the coast of Venezuela and is situated on the South American plate. -- DanielPenfield (talk) 12:42, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi DanielPenfield,
thanks for pointing me to the Wikidata item. I'll see that done. As you can imagine the issue hasn't arosen for the first time now, in fact it pops up every once in a while on several projects I'm active in. The matter is a bit abstract, but I'll try to explain it in brief: We as authors can tediously discuss geographical neighbourhood, cultural bonds and historical developments of individual regions, but we authors don't define but copy notable sources, and notable sources (i.e. statisticians) have done the job for us already, way back when. For statistical purposes the Americas are divided into two units (North and South), sometimes three (North, South and Central). For both systems, the Caribbean is allocated to North America. To quote from en:North America: "The United Nations formally recognizes "North America" as comprising three areas: Northern America, Central America, and The Caribbean. This has been formally defined by the UN Statistics Division." (sources provided there).
As a regular visitor of TT I am well aware that you can see the mainland from southern Trinidad, but you have to draw a line somewhere, and that has been done.
