Please do not recreate deleted content

[edit]

hello, you uploaded File:Zere-Yacob-275x300.jpg, which is the same as File:Zara Yacob.jpg already deleted the previous day. Recreating deleted content outside of process is not allowed, and doing so repeatedly may cause you to lose your editing privileges. Instead you can make a request at the undeletion requests page. Pay attention to copyright
File:Murayghan 3.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: The inscription depicted in the photograph is hundreds of years old, but the photograph itself has a copyright notice. Furthermore the uploader's assertion of public domain is only applicable within the United States; neither the inscription, photograph, nor photographers are in/from the US. The footer of the webpage says "Copyright 2013 Università degli studi di Pisa". The website's terms of use further assert copyright and do not provide any license that would make the images automatically compatible with Commons. What I'm not sure about is if we can freely use someone else's photograph of a work that dates from antiqutiy, but if we can it isn't via {{PD-US}}.
Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Uploader asserts that collage of images found on Wikipedia is in the public domain in the United States. No credit for original images other than (possibly) one of the Wikipedia uploaders. One of the images from the collage copyright is clearly shown at https://www.slam.org/collection/objects/19235/

I acquired these images from the Wikipedia image database, where they are readily available. By searching for the names of the individuals depicted, you can easily find the source. Furthermore, I've observed similar image collages being created. How does mine violate copyright laws? JUMPp1harm (talk) 00:43, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to say where they came from. If you look at other collages, these should (and most likely do) indicate where their constituent images came from. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:56, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The source of these images are on the pages of the people that it is depicting. JUMPp1harm (talk) 01:06, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I edited it and added the sources JUMPp1harm (talk) 02:17, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@JUMPp1harm, one of the images that forms part of that collage can be found at https://www.slam.org/collection/objects/19235/. It is clear that there is a copyright attribution at that source. You uploaded something which is a clear copyright violation. TarnishedPathtalk 13:07, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I recently discussed this matter with another administrator on my talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:JUMPp1harm#March_2024_2 I wasn't the one who uploaded the image in question. All the images used were already available in the Wikipedia database, and I simply compiled them together. I'm confused on why I should be punished for using images that are already present in the database. The source linked from the image on the Wikipedia database is different. Should I have linked the same source as in the database? I assumed it didn't matter since I shared the photographer name. I didn't realize that this particular image might infringe on copyright since it's already present in the database. This was simply an unintentional error on my part.

Whether you compiled other images or not, you still uploaded them and you are responsible for checking that images don't have copyright issues. The image at this URL https://www.slam.org/collection/objects/19235/ clearly has a copyright attribution. TarnishedPathtalk 00:42, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was an unintentional mistake. I assumed it was okay to use since its been in the database for a few months. JUMPp1harm (talk) 01:04, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/BasedHistorian_PHD suggests nothing you are doing is unintentional. TarnishedPathtalk 03:17, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This situation is getting absurd. I'm now being accused of owning an account I don't know of. This account isn't mine, and I don't recognize this user. JUMPp1harm (talk) 03:25, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Copied from https://www.bmimages.com/preview.asp?image=01613259004&tc=true, British Museum Images, which asserts copyright and further states "You may not reproduce or distribute the images or any part of the images for commercial purposes in any way without a licence from the British Museum Images (BM Images)." Uploader asserts {{PD-US}} but neither the depicted coin nor the British Museum are in the US.

Hello JUMPp1harm.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

TarnishedPathtalk 13:10, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:Various Amhara people.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
