Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Greetings. I see that you uploaded a new version of the tutorial and added more details about the public domain. Unfortunately, this adds way too much complexity to the tutorial, whose goal is to provide a simple guide for people who don't know anything about free licenses (or sometimes even copyright). "150 years" is imprecise, but it's something people understand, and it's the "good enough" compromise the Commons community agreed upon when the tutorial was developed. I restored the previous version of the tutorial; I hope you understand. guillom 19:46, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I understand. --/á(!) 19:53, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS[edit]

Hi, at OTRS we are in need for more people who are able to respond to FI tickets. Are you interested in joining the team? Jcb (talk) 14:57, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your invitation. I am interested. /á(!) 05:59, 17 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Edittools[edit]

I saw you added some templates for the user talk namespace to the edittools. Did you know that there is Gadget-UserMessages, which allows you to notify users from any user-associated page like log or contribs and features an easy-to-use filter box and QuickDelete? -- Rillke(q?) 17:28, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't know. Thanks for your advice! /á(!) 12:36, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Epävirallisten vaakunoiden siirto fi-wikiin ja poisto Commonsista[edit]

Hei!

Lisäksi Commonsissa on kaksoiskappaleet seuraavista fi-wikistä jo löytyvistä tiedostoista:

I have a blanket OTRS ticket[edit]

Hi A, you recently tagged the following images as "not sufficient":

  1. File:Célena Cherry, Bula Quo, London, 2013.jpg
  2. File:Francis Rossi, Bula Quo, London, 2013.jpg
  3. File:Laura Aikman, Bula Quo, London, 2013.jpg
  4. File:Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, Bula Quo, London, 2013.jpg

These images are actually covered by a blanket OTRS ticket, #2013061410000492, as stated in my email. The photographer knows and understands full well that the images he is emailing me are licensed CC BY 3.0, which you can read in that ticket. Here is an example of a later image that uses this blanket license: File:Kristen Stewart, Breaking Dawn Part 2, London, 2012.jpg, which is filed under ticket #2013061710007542. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 04:17, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't find the original permission. Another user has now tagged them as sufficient. Greetings, /á(!) 15:55, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help[edit]

Can you help sort out the edit war at File:Edward Snowden.jpg. The larger cropped version in higher resolution is the one I showed to Laura in a link. She couldn't see it at commons as it had been deleted.--Canoe1967 (talk) 18:48, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. It was also brought up at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/Blocks_and_protections#File:Edward_Snowden.jpg. Admin there seem to indicate that the deletion of other versions is in your hands. I don't wish to email Laura again. We do have the one good image and I don't think we need any of the others.--Canoe1967 (talk) 15:56, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File:Feeding of Rangifer tarandus.jpg[edit]

Hej,

File:Ruskeala coat of arms.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

De-adminship warning[edit]

This talk page in other languages:

Dear Á, I am writing to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Feb-Mar 2014 within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you, odder (talk) 20:33, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Location of tram[edit]

Thank you for the identification you made. However, I think that this kind of comments belong in the file’s talk page (esp. if presented as a personal apport, dated and signed), and that removed categorization about unidentified locations should be not just blanked but replaced with more detailed location categories and/or with data in {{Camera location}} (or eqv.). I will try, using your info, to fulfil those requirements, even though I had the pleasure to visit Helsinki for merely 2 days, back in 1995. -- Tuválkin 18:53, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's true, my text was too much discussion-like. And yes, the place you marked is correct. Thank you for your assistance. /á(!) 20:26, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

De-adminship[edit]

Hi Á,
it is with a regret that I inform you that, following our de-adminship policy, you had your administrator rights on Wikimedia Commons removed today by a Wikimedia steward.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for your efforts and contributions in making Wikimedia Commons what it is today (no big words intended!). If you'll feel like doing so at some point, please feel free to re-apply for adminship at COM:RFA. Again, thanks for all the help you gave us, and (hopefully) see you back soon! odder (talk) 20:47, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
